I don’t think Canadians are any more rude or impolite than other nationalities, I just don’t like their elevated status within the US. I find the average Canadian and the average American to be close to the same in terms of politeness and manners. People in general are pretty great, but when you constantly hear how great one nationality is, they better be exceptional.

The root is a pretty biased source, but I figured he was talking about the anthem. My reading comprehension may be off, but I’m not reading racism in those lyrics. I’m reading it as “if you’re a slave, you’re either going to have a ***** time relocating or a ***** time fighting in battle.” Simply mentioning slavery does not equate to racism.

Growing up in the Buffalo area have my a completely different impression of Canadians than found on the internet, one that’s far closer in-line with what you experienced recently. Even since moving down South, every once-in-a-while I’ll come across someone from Toronto, say I’m from Buffalo, and have to hear some smart ass remark about the city or about how much of a piece of ***** it is. Few things make me madder than the whole “Canadians are the nicest people” BS. All I associate them with is littering, foul-mouthedness, and general ***** behavior.

I can totally see that too. I am definitely of the mindset that the team needs to get bigger and more tenacious but ideally JBott would recognize that drafting a smaller player requires other rosters moves to compensate, unlike some other picks.

I certainly agree we don’t want a whole team of little guys, but in an ideal world you would replace the current small talent with greater talent of similar size. Also, it’s important to remember these kids grow. I think Olofsson was only around 5’6” when drafted and is now closer to 5’10/1”

I believe he was injured after his hot start in juniors. His team’s season ended and the Sabres wanted to reward him so they brought him. I don’t think he’s able to play, but he’s able to experience some of the pro-hockey life and has access to better facilities. Ive been wrong before though.

I can’t think of a single person that I served with that enjoyed being honored at events or thanked in public. They certainly wouldn’t have been the kind of soldiers I hung around with though. Also, I don’t think saying the national anthem sucks means a person thinks a nation sucks. I’ve never heard anyone complain about the quality of content with the anthem, but I still don’t think that’s the case. Im sure if you listened to all the anthems of the world some would be of far greater quality than others, I don’t think that’s a reflection on the country. The discussions of whether anthems should be sung is a valid topic if discussing anthems throughout the league, but like you said, this isn’t the thread (though one did just start).

I would not be happy with Botts if Skinner got anywhere near 9.1. Give me Duchene and another FA if that’s the case.

I couldn’t be more opposed either and I believe the national anthem being sung before sporting events is stupid. While they’re at it they can’t stop the whole veteran thing too.
