Constructive Ideas: Playoff Contender to Cup Contender
#freejame replied to Marvin's topic in The Aud Club
I think Couture would cost more and Montour would fetch more. We paid a first and our top d prospect for him. -

Sam Reinhart and Brad Marchand— A basic contract comparison

Eichel isn’t in his prime, I’ve already argued that in another thread. -
Sam Reinhart and Brad Marchand— A basic contract comparison
#freejame replied to #freejame's topic in The Aud Club
The only reason I compared the two is because someone mentioned his contract in the game thread and I thought it would be fun to compare the two and see why Marchand has the contract value that he does. I wouldn’t typically compare the two because as you said, they aren’t playing the same roles or games and are vastly different players. There have been an obscene amount of facts posted now, you’re simply ignoring them. But sure, let’s do that. -
Sam Reinhart and Brad Marchand— A basic contract comparison
#freejame replied to #freejame's topic in The Aud Club
This isn’t based in fact or reality. I’m not ignoring anything, where’s you’ve been for months. Did you have Marchand being an elite scorer when he was breaking in to the league? Who have you called for breaking out? When have you been right before so I can trust your opinion because you’ve never provided anything to back it up. -
Dude, you’ve needed to take it down like five notches for months now. Prime is your peak. Ages help notate when that is, because your prime athletic ability is related to an age. That’s science and indisputable. This goes for all physical activity. It’s why the military uses age brackets for their physical fitness tests. Chill out and realize you don’t know nearly as much as you think you do. It’s long past incredibly annoying. and nice cherry picking of Crosby. You don’t think there’s other brain related reasonings for that? You would take 18-22 year old Crosby over the Crosby from his cup years? Have you watched any of those games? Com’mon. Not to mention wrong He’s been doing it for a while now all over the board. He makes no arguments that hold water and just acts like a dick.

Sam Reinhart and Brad Marchand— A basic contract comparison
#freejame replied to #freejame's topic in The Aud Club
True, that cuts both ways though. He’s spent a lot of time with Jack but Jack has also always been other teams main focus defensively. I’m sure he’s faced much better matchups than Marchand through this point in his career. -
The hockey gods called it, but I don’t believe the refs did.

Sam Reinhart and Brad Marchand— A basic contract comparison
#freejame replied to #freejame's topic in The Aud Club
Yeah, everyone should agree Marchand is better than Sam. But Sam is outperforming Marchand on worse teams every season of his career when comparing them against each other. -

Please explain this further. What from that post shows that it’s not a fair comparison? Sam has been a better player on a worse team than Marchand was through the first 6 seasons of their careers. Sam will likely end up out producing Marchand’s third contract (!!!) with points on his second contract, and potentially goals as well, which is something when you consider Marchand is now an elite goal scorer and Sam was never billed as such. -

I had some fun doing this as well, if anyone has other players who they’d like to see this for I’d be happy to post more players here as well. I think this also works for my prime age argument in the other thread. When I get a chance I will put Marchand’s ages for each contract in the OP. -
Sam Reinhart and Brad Marchand— A basic contract comparison
#freejame replied to #freejame's topic in The Aud Club
Someone said they wished we could sign him to a contract like Marchand’s. This shows Sam has provided more value than Marchand did at the time of his third contract and will likely be paid at a higher percentage of cap. You’re comparing one player who is currently in his prime to one player who is not. Of course Marchand is better now, he’s directly in his prime. Reinhart is not in his prime yet. -
I can’t tell if you mean this in a good way or a bad way? A good teammate changes when it’s his turn for a change. A smart player changes when he has a smart opportunity to. Sam is a smart player, I can’t think of many instances of bad or sloppy changes on his part.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.2646054 National Hockey League forwards reach their peak scoring performance at age 28 and defencemen peak at age 29, while goaltenders show little change in performance based on age, says a new study that crunched the numbers. Brander's team also found that forwards: Improve more quickly than they decline and typically begin "a significant decline in their early 30s." Perform within 90 per cent of their peak from 24 to 32 years old. 25 is their most common age, with 24-27 very similar. Brander's study also looked at the NHL's elite players, which would include Oates. Oates joined the NHL at age 23 and stayed for 19 seasons, playing for six teams. When he retired as a player, his assists total was the fifth highest in NHL history. A centre, his highest points per game seasons were when he was 28 and 30 years old. Oates played until he was 41. Brander's study found that elite forwards are at their peak performance for scoring from age 27 to 29. "Elite players improve faster initially, continue to improve for slightly longer and experience slower age-related decline," according to Brander. "They do not experience a major drop-off in performance until their late 30s." I’ve never heard of an NHL player hitting their prime at 23. The league would be substantially younger if that were the case. Most players in the league aren’t even hitting their stride at that age. Jack Eichel is still on the up-and-up. In 3-5 years he’ll plateau for for 2-4 years and those will be his prime scoring years.
-
Why risk him being good in five or six years? His ilk can be replaced should he want to leave.
-
Until the start of the next season. Maybe he doesn’t like rotating in new masks during the season. Maybe he’s superstitious.

Sam Reinhart and Brad Marchand— A basic contract comparison

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say here. Do you believe Reinhart is responsible for the state of the franchise? -
Jack Eichel is years away from his prime, we’re fine.

Sam Reinhart and Brad Marchand— A basic contract comparison

This idea was sprung out of the GDT Brad Marchand First contract: ELC (3 seasons)(1.23% of cap) GP: 173 G: 49 (.28g/gm) A: 47 (.27a/gmP: 97 (.56p/gm) Second Contract 2 years, 5 million (3.89% of cap) GM: 130 (lockout included) G: 43 (.33g/gm) A: 46 (.35a/gm) P: 89 (.68p/gm) Third Contract 4 year, 18 million (7.5% of cap) GM: 316 G: 125 (.39g/gm) A: 116 (.37a/gm) P: 241(.76p/gm) Current Contract 8 years, $49 million (8.39% of cap) GM: 202 G: 93 (.46g/gm) A: 161(.79a/gm) P: 254 (1.26p/gm) Sam Reinhart: First Contract ELC (1.34% of cap) GM: 249 G: 65 (.26g/gm) Marchand higher .02 A: 75 (.30a/gm) Sam higher .03 P: 140 (.56p/gm) Sam higher .01 Current Contract 2 years, 7.3 million (4.59% of cap) GM: 136 G: 41 (.30g/gm) Marchand higher .03 A: 68 (.50a/gm) Sam higher .15 P: 109 (.80p/gm) Sam higher .12 Comparing the beginnings of their career, Sam Reinhart has more or less matched or outperform Marchand in basic counting stats. If Sam gets a comparable extension to Marchand, he would be looking at a 4 year, 6.39 million contract. Considering Sam put is putting up 12% more points than Marchand was, a 4 year, 7 million dollar contract seems pretty reasonable. Now, if Sam is willing to sign that for 8 years, why wouldn’t anyone do that? -
GDT Detroit at Buffalo 2/6/20 7pm NBCSN, WGR 550
#freejame replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
The reason he’s under a great contract is because the Bruins signed him to a great extension before his breakout like many were saying we should have done with Sam. -
Unless you believe the player you’re drafting is NHL ready (which I don’t believe anyone at five will be) and only slightly worse in prime potential, you take BPA. But we need help so maybe.
-
I think you’re giving too many people here credit. I remember the majority being very much at arms over his comment. But I may be misremembering.
-
The funniest thing about the trade Reinhart crowd is they’re the same people who say people come to buffalo and suck and then leave and magically get better. So is Sam going to be playing at a PPG once he leaves? If he does, will you start bitching about having traded him? Pretty sure there’s plenty that complained incessantly about ROR and his attitude and wanted him gone and now want to bitch about the trade for days.

One of these things is not like the other...Goose did a lot, Mair and Kaleta were plugs and at the time could have been replaced yearly if the team wanted that role.

I didn’t know the goat was inspired by NWA and now I only like it even more. I think the overwhelming majority of those who liked it still like it and that would prove it wasn’t a passing fad. I wear my goathead stuff to work all the time and anyone who follows hockey always compliments me on it. I would like the royal blue much more if we wore white a home. It’s not that I’m not a fan, there’s just something...dusty (?) about it in an attic sort of way. That’s not saying change is needed and classic isn’t classic, there’s just something too 70s about it, just like there’s something too 90s about the goat for many.
