We'll have to agree to disagree on that. Slides don't start after the bag much if ever. Baseball admitted their mistake with the suspension. Hindsight. Unfortunately we have a game 5 that we probably wouldn't have been needed otherwise. The opinions of other players and writers who cover thousands of games also disagree with you. It was extraordinarily dirty. That's one way that play was extraordinary. And no offense, but your open hatred of the Mets blinds your view as much as my view is blinded by my being a Mets fan. The outside evidence is on my side, however.
-
I'll have a quarter of my attention on this and three quarters on baseball unfortunately. Hope for a good outcome for both!
-
Ok, all I know is that the catcher has to leave a path to home plate, which he obviously did on this play. Sounds like the rule and whatever punishment should have been enforced. But, just like other leagues, MLB doesn't always enforce their own rules, except maybe in hindsight, so I'm not surprised.
-
That's just hard-nosed baseball  There is a specific rule against that to protect catchers. Doesn't surprise me that it wasn't called though. Expect a new rule to protect middle infielders this offseason. Yeah! More new rules in hindsight that will be ignored and/or randomly enforced.

Poor Connor: http://www.si.com/nhl/2015/10/14/connor-mcdavid-edmonton-oilers-first-nhl-goal Article title: Slow start, steep NHL learning curve wearing on Connor McDavid Some excerpts: "He had some recurring problems in Dallas, including another miserable night in the circle (he's now clicking at 24.2 percent on the draw). And there was that appalling backcheck on Jason Spezza's late-third period game winner." "He’s being overly cautious when it comes to leaving the zone, hesitating that extra moment to ensure that he doesn’t get caught going the wrong way on a turnover." "To make the inevitable comparison, take a look at Jack Eichel in Buffalo. He clearly wants to be the man. He wants the puck. He wants to be the focus. The results have been immediate and spectacular." Now I know that McDavid will figure it out and eventually be really good, but I think we lucked out and got the best player in the draft and the best player for our organization. We needed a leader to lead us from the depths of the NHL. Eichel has been amazing from the start and I'm so glad that we aren't having these same discussions as are being had about McDavid. Especially since we're Buffalo and we tend to get carried away over-analyzing things quite often. :w00t:

It would be wise to try, but probably not be very successful. He's different, that's why people like him. His voters, by and large, are not going to easily settle for the same corporate-owned candidate that we always end up with.
-
We'll all be glad if he becomes a good prospect. It's obviously not guaranteed. He's a junior in college so I don't know how you or anyone else really knows what his ceiling is yet. The fact that he's off to an excellent start and was a big factor in beating the #1 team is an encouraging sign for Sabres fans.

We'll see how it plays out. I think that Hillary's high unfavorables with anyone but most Democrats gives me the same worries about whether she can win the general. The last Gallup poll I saw had her -24 with Independents alone. I think whoever ultimately wins the Democratic nomination will be the best candidate the Democrats could put forward, whoever it ends up being. Although the deck is stacked, that's the system. Ironically, the stacked deck motivates even more people towards Bernie, I think. I see what you're saying about social media, but it will be a huge factor in this election. Enthusiasm does matter. And the social media numbers favoring Bernie last night are unbelievably good. Hillary is not even close in that measure.

Yes. There seems to be a huge difference of opinion between the media and social media. From the debate start to 4 hours later the Sanders campaign received $1.4 million at an average of $31.54 per donation. That's pretty amazing.

There are many comments I'd like to respond to, but I'll never have the time. All I can say is we'll see which way the polls go from here. The media and pundits are telling us one thing, while social media (voters) are telling us another. Hopefully it's still the voters that count.

Well the ones I agree with I like to read! :w00t: Wow, We've even though you're a Dodgers fan, this was an excellent post. Very inspiring!

Well that's good news at least. The Bills only have 1 kicker now! Woohoo!

Other NHL teams not happy with how LA was able to get out from under Mike Richards' contract. http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/eye-on-hockey/25338274/report-nhl-teams-privately-fuming-over-kings-mike-richards-settlement

Something tells me we won't see Liger backing this one up. :P

C'mon guys, EJ looked great in the preseason! It's only the 5-0 Bengals we're playing afterall.

Good! As Buffalo sports fans that's all we have an abundance of most of the time. Everything's gotta start somewhere.

Living in Columbus and having friends that are Jackets fans, I pay attention to them casually. OK, tell me if this sounds eerily similar to something we lived through in the not-so-distant past. 2012-2013: Finished tied for 8th in Western Conference with Minnesota but lost the tiebreaker and missed the playoffs. Started out 5-12-3. Finished 24-17-7. 2013-2014: Finished 7th in Eastern Conference and lost to Pittsburgh in first round of playoffs. Started out 10-14-3. Finished 43-32-7. 2014-2015: Finished 11th in Eastern Conference. Started out 6-15-2. Finished 42-35-5. 2015-2016: So far have started 0-3. The Blue Jackets have taken the old Sabres' "heroic run to 8th" strategy and have heroically run with it. These slow starts have killed them and even though by the end of the season they are one of the better teams in the league, they buried themselves in a huge hole that they usually can not get out of. And even if they do barely squeak in they get eliminated by a top seed. They give up so many points at the beginning of every year and it just kills them in March and April. My supervisor who is a huge fan just shakes his head over this. I just tell him "I've been there": No man's land in the draft and no man's land for the playoffs.

I hope it does mean that McCabe stays and Colo (or Weber) becomes the extra defenseman when Bogo's back.

Shhhhhh. Don't tell pastajoe or TrueBlue, but "something's happening here" and Robins Egg may have a great point that it's not being recognized by traditional political media or polling methods. http://www.salon.com/2015/10/12/the_medias_lying_to_you_about_bernie_sanders_this_is_why_a_socialist_can_win_the_fox_loving_red_states/

What were you saying about the intelligence of Texas Governors? I'm sure he's probably jinxed them now. :w00t:

I understand your sentiment, but even if Hillary is forced to the left, it doesn't mean she'll stay there. See Obama, Barack. Obama the candidate was a good deal more liberal than Obama the President has been. I'm glad you like Bernie, but voters should vote for the real deal, not the impostor looking to just get through the primary.

I picture it as Hillary vs. Bernie with some ankle biting dogs in the room. I'm not even sure O'Malley, Chafee, and Webb would have made the cut if the Republican debate cut rules were used. They're only there because there's 5 candidates instead of 20 or whatever it is. I think it's too late for Biden, mostly from a fundraising and organizational perspective. Stranger things have certainly happened though, but I predict he's not running. Oh, and I see Hillary will be the middle podium of the 5, front and center!
-
Me too, although it conflicts with baseball. I'll have to have an eye on both with baseball muted. Upside: Don't have to listen to Cal Ripken. HOF shortstop. Color commentator? Not so much.

First Democratic candidate debate is tonight. Seems much more low key without a "Trump" factor. Anyone plan on watching?
