  1. What's this weird optimistic/confident feeling I'm starting to feel in regard to the Sabres? I like it.
  2. Well we've never tried positive interaction, and unfortunately probably never will. We could achieve a moral high horse but it's going to take at least as much time as we've spent going the other way.
  3. I think this is where we're missing each other. I'm not talking about changing hearts and minds of the radicalized, I'm talking about changing hearts and minds of the potentially future radicalized so that the radicalization never happens. Education, economic opportunities, basically a positive purpose in life. America interacts positively rather than negatively and we're the "good guys" not the "bad guys".
  4. Maybe, maybe not. It can certainly be much more minimized than it currently is. The smaller the problem, the easier it is to deal with what's left of it.
  5. I hear their "cackling laughter" at our military intervention as well. The radicalized are largely beyond help at this point. We need to stop people from becoming radicalized in the first place.
  6. And then the rest continue guerrilla warfare anywhere they can against us in revenge. We can't kill them all. This is actually where we are at in the current situation. We need to stop people from feeling the need to join the terrorist groups and let the group die off eventually. You really do need to kill the "idea", which a gun or bomb can't do.
  7. We need to stop the people from becoming terrorists. Yes, it makes perfect sense to me. Give them a purpose and productive role in their society/the world instead of their role being "death to America and its allies" Yep it's all those naive liberals' fault. The warmongering, interventionist policies America has used for decades is completely innocent of any blame. <_<
  8. Haven't fully caught up yet. I really did just "unplug" last night. It had been a long week and the Paris events were just incomprehensibly horrific and tragic. Neo, those events have all happened under the current approach. Military action and failed intervention policies are to blame here. It's not an either/or scenario. "Military action" is not going to stop those attacks either, but I'm hopeful that "winning over hearts and minds" eventually will. I know that we've only tried the one way and it hasn't worked. America will never get this, but to a certain point we also need to "butt out" of other people's business and affairs. It's not all about us. In my mind, at least "hearts and minds" has a chance for success instead of the perpetual hamster wheel of death and destruction we've been spinning on for quite some time now that hasn't worked. For lack of a better way to put this, "we" have interacted with "them" in many negative ways. There are currently negative interactions on both sides, obviously, but they're attacking us how they are able to. They can't stand up to our military directly. This is essentially modern guerrilla warfare. We have caused generations of people in the ME to hate us and want us to suffer and die because we've done the same things to them. Revenge is a primal human need. We need to break the cycle. Is that likely? Unfortunately not. And thanks for the love  As I said in the "Politics" thread, I do enjoy reading your views, even if we disagree much of the time
  9. I hadn't said that before. I said we needed a different approach. I have never said that's sitting down and "reasoning" with radicalized people. It is changing the way we interact with them and their culture so that the radicalization eventually stops. It's a very long process. It's been a very long process to get where we are and the current approach has failed. How long do we continue with the same obviously failed approach?
  10. Wow. Good night France. Good night Sabrespace. May the morning find both in a better place than they currently are.
  11. Are you? We've been the "strong horse" for quite awhile now. It's not working. We need a different approach. Yep, that's totally what i said. Hearts and minds are more effectively changed by the carrot (education, economy, cooperative means) rather than the stick (bombs, guns, and war).
  12. Well, it's an open thread. Bring it back to the right. I'm/we're listening.... Scale is quite a bit different between the two situations. And we're still paying for the Bush administration's pre and post 9/11 actions with blood, treasure, and our liberties/freedoms. Yes, Obama has his own issues regarding this broad subject, but we're primarily where we are because of W and his crew. I usually like your input on things, but sometimes ucrackmeup
  13. What a horrifying situation. May we all stand with and offer our heartfelt sympathies to the French during this tragedy. How's that whole "force" thing been working for U.S. and the world so far? I agree with Wildcard above and I think that recent history has shown that force is not the answer to this problem.
  14. It would be awesome! But, as I've said already, we need to throw some caution to the wind and go for it. The same "let's be conservative so Brady doesn't beat us" plan will result in another 460 yard passing game for Brady. That Jets game also started a 5 out of 6 road game run for us. How we manage these 6 games determines our season.
  15. Old wounds and all, but..... New Politico article that is pretty damning concerning the Bush administration's ignoring many warnings prior to the 9/11 attack. ‘The Attacks Will Be Spectacular’ An exclusive look at how the Bush administration ignored this warning from the CIA months before 9/11, along with others that were far more detailed than previously revealed. http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/11/cia-directors-documentary-911-bush-213353 I know this ship has unfortunately long since sailed, but for discussion purposes, when does incompetence and inaction become criminal rather than just an "oopsie"? Also the article is written by Politico, so it's not a leftist hit piece, so let's not even use that argument as a counter.
  16. I actually came away less impressed with Bowles. If he's more aggressive and playing the score earlier, the Jets could have won that game. I had a post written out explaining this, but it was lost  This. He is more clutch than SJ, but he does have SJ's knack for not catching the easy ones entirely too often.
  17. Umm, have you seen our pressure up the middle this year? Me neither. And I'm officially done with expecting Marcell "big money" Dareus to supply it. If we're going to get pressure up the middle it's going to have to come via the blitz. And again, we have nothing to lose and everything to gain here. Go for broke since Brady's likely going to torch us no matter what we do, especially if we play our "normal" defense ala week 2.
  18. Today is the last "odd day" for 90 years. Unless someone gets extremely fortunate, none of us will be around to see the next one. "Odd day" is a date with 3 sequential odd numbers. So happy 11/13/15 everyone! http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2015/11/13/odd-day.html
  19. They seemed much lighter to me, but it could have entirely have been the contrast with the red.
  20. Don't drink coffee. Did for awhile, but then all of a sudden even small amounts would make me feel jittery and nauseous. Now I can't even really stand the smell of it. I do tend to drink too much soda (diet mt dew!) and I've gotten into those Crystal Light packets mixed with water (which now come with caffeine in them!), and the Mio stuff with caffeine. I have about an average of one energy drink per month and generally drink them only when driving long distances. Basically I do seem to need caffeine, but can't handle/stomach coffee so I find other means.
  21. I resisted as much as possible, but I ended up really liking them too. I want one of the red hoodies everyone on the sideline had. I liked them even more than the uniforms. At least we didn't have the Jets' uniforms. That shade of green....not good imo
  22. I bet that they are a Buffalo sports fan. We're all feeling euphoric and charitable today.
  23. Have you seen the AFC lately? The stars may finally be aligning and if you get the 1st wildcard you're likely playing a team that's worse than you in the 1st round of the playoffs (AFC South). But, unfortunately this is the Bills and we can (and likely will) screw this up in the most insane way possible.
  24. Such a gentleman. Who knew? :P The fact that good beer worked as a bribe is a very positive indicator of good judgment and continued happiness! Once again, fantastic!
