  1. Spent Friday on the beach in Panama City, FL and am having a wonderfully relaxing vacation overall. Sabres break their losing streak and Syracuse basketball is off to an excellent start. All so freaking fantastic!
  2. Called it! Both the show further jumping the shark and Glenn's dumpster escape. Now, we'll see what happens with the town being overrun and the hitting the fan. The main characters can't possibly all survive again? Although, we'll likely get one hell of a cliff-hanger to tide us over until February if one or more is going to die. What happened to the kid that was ready to off Carl? I think he'll play a part (not sure good or bad) in the upcoming zombie town invasion.
  3. Wow! Down go the Buckeyes at home to Michigan State.
  4. Trump coming to town here in Columbus Monday night. Apparently 15,000+ expected to attend.
  5. It was startling, which is why I looked into it further. To clarify, the rumors from a couple decades ago were proven false and this new story is an updated version of those false rumors. Unfortunately those previous false rumors did have a negative impact on immunization programs in those countries (Mexico, Tanzania, Nicaragua, and the Philippines).
  6. The NWHL announced yesterday that the league's first All-Star Weekend will be held in Buffalo on January 23rd-24th. Tickets go on sale on black Friday. http://www.si.com/nhl/2015/11/19/nwhl-inaugural-all-star-weeked-january-buffalo Interesting: The format of the NWHL All-Star game will include two 20 minute periods of four-on-four. The winning team will receive 20% of the ticket sales profits, to be split equally among its members.
  7. Why is "the ONION" usually so much more accurate than our traditional or mainstream media? From 2003: http://www.theonion.com/multiblogpost/this-war-will-destabilize-the-entire-mideast-regio-11534 Excerpt: If you thought Osama bin Laden was bad, just wait until the countless children who become orphaned by U.S. bombs in the coming weeks are all grown up. Do you think they will forget what country dropped the bombs that killed their parents? In 10 or 15 years, we will look back fondly on the days when there were only a few thousand Middle Easterners dedicated to destroying the U.S. and willing to die for the fundamentalist cause. From this war, a million bin Ladens will bloom.
  8. This appears to be proven false by Snopes http://www.snopes.com/medical/disease/tetanus.asp . The link also shows that this rumor was also making the rounds 20 or so years ago, but pertaining to other countries.
  9. Poor Piyush "Bobby" Jindal. Whoever will I vote for now???
  10. What is the constant bombing and drones if not retaliation? What is the occupation and military operations that have occurred if not retaliation? I think our message has been sent and received. And yes, that retaliation has not improved anything. That's why we need a different approach, but bombs and drones are much easier and more desired by many. I said I shouldn't have said anything because I had successfully ducked out of things for awhile in the politics and Paris threads.
  11. 2 more episodes until the mid season break. If this season has been any indication so far, they may go back to focusing on the town in the next episode, and then circle back to the outsiders (Glenn, Abraham, Sasha, Daryl) for the last episode before the break. Increase the suspense and anticipation. The town was showing signs of being in a bunch of trouble soon, though, so who knows? Oh and with all the signs of and talk about fire, I'm thinking that the fuel truck Abraham is driving could be the key to saving the townspeople ;)
  12. I'll have to disagree with you there. Plenty of civilians are being killed and it's fuel for the fire on both sides. I just want the cycle we're stuck in to be broken. Obama walks a tightrope. He is hawkish on bombing and drones (civilian deaths), but can't outwardly appear that way to appease his base. Since he doesn't outwardly appear that way, the right attacks him too.
  13. Agreed. Have been saying this for awhile about the AFC South. Denver now looks beatable. We have shown we're not competitive with Cincy and NE, but you never know, weird things can and will happen in the playoffs, especially with Mr. Dalton. Edit: But we gotta get there first, and that is no given, as we all are painfully aware of.
  14. It sure sounded like him. His voice is pretty unique among the possibilities of who it could be, that we know of anyway. Daryl, Daryl, Daryl....punishing myself for butchering his name earlier.
  15. Civilian casualties should be minimized no matter where they reside. Civilian deaths are the fuel for the fire in this perpetual war we're in. Cross-posted from "Politics":
  16. Look at even conservative estimates of how many civilians have been killed in the ME by predominantly US bombings and drone strikes. Civilians are already considered "collateral damage" in the ME. How many Syrian or Iraqi civilians are worth a single civilian killed by terrorists? 1) This is part of the perpetual cycle we're stuck in. Terrorists attack. Revenge is taken (short term and long term). Civilians are killed which fuels the radicalization and creation of more terrorists. Terrorists attack. Both sides consider themselves justified and all it does is create more and more violence. Many people have said it on here, but bombs and drones are not going to solve the problem, but that's how it's dealt with anyway. 2) The number of civilians in "the West" killed by terrorists is dwarfed by the number of civilians that have been killed in the ME so the answer to the bolded is never. 3) Even if somehow ISIS is destroyed, a new group will rise up to take their place over time. Which has happened several times already in the ME. We're always fighting some group over there. (Perpetual warfare! Yeah!) because the radicalization problem is never addressed. We literally cannot kill them all, but while we try, more and more radicalization occurs. 4) I should have kept my mouth shut, but I didn't....
  17. The last episode must have not have been very remarkable for Sabrespacers. Two of my thoughts: 1. Darrell goes out of his way to help people and save their lives multiple times, but is double-crossed multiple times, including in the end. Another point in the "people are bad, mmmkay" column for this season. 2. Voice in the walkie talkie at the end? Sure sounded like Glenn to me.
  18. Had to chime in here. There's a Lego store here in Columbus. It's amazing the number and variety of sets that are out there. Basically just about any popular culture set you can imagine. Lego heaven. With that variety comes all sorts of prices too, except low ones. The store is very popular and busy every time I visit, however. My kids love Legos, but we save large amounts of money buying them from Amazon or general retail stores on sale/clearance. With some of the prices out there, you'd think Legos were made of gold. Edit: Oh and these OYO figures and prices are in line with that for sure. Pretty pricey for little pieces of plastic.
  19. I'm not sure if anyone else watches it, but I mentioned it in my first post in the thread - "Supernatural". It's a bit reminiscent of the X-files, with demon/monster hunting and an overarching story. It's in its 10th season and is one of my favorite shows on tv. From http://www.complex.com/pop-culture/best-tv-shows-streaming-netflix/supernatural Seasons available: 1-9 Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Mischa Collins In terms of television programming, the last few years have been quite good for genre fans. There's The Walking Dead, of course, and the more dementedAmerican Horror Story. But there's one show that's been delighting lovers of monsters, witches, and other antagonistic grotesqueries since way back in 2005: The CW's Supernatural. Slightly below the radar, Supernatural has been the most consistent genre show on TV, powered by the pitch-perfect chemistry between leads Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, as demon-slaying brothers Sam and Dean Winchester. It's also wonderfully creative, with a never-ending surplus of inhuman villains often rendered by impressive visual effects and padded with rich, fascinating mythologies. We know what you're thinking—a show on The CW starring a couple of pretty boy pin-up types can't be anything more than something your little sister would watch. Give Supernatural a chance and you'll discover that it's one of TV's best-kept secrets.
  20. Speaking of which, has the media declared Hillary the new president yet?
  21. This is essentially what we're doing. And it's not working because of technology and/or faulty intelligence and/or error. 90% of kills due to these "targeted drone strikes" are civilians. We're bombing hospitals, weddings, residences, etc. This actually makes people understandably hate us more and become more radicalized. This is one of the main reasons that I maintain that the solution needs to be very, very heavy on "hearts and minds" and very very light on military means. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/civilian-deaths-drone-strikes_561fafe2e4b028dd7ea6c4ff The numbers you cite make me think that we're bombing needles in haystacks.
  22. Seems that hardly anyone even knows there is a D debate tonight. Who puts a debate on a Saturday night unless you want to minimize it?
