  1. I've only ever watched golf when Tiger is in contention for a major or Ryder Cup/President's Cup match play. Match play is actually one of the better sporting events in my opinion. Other than those very few exceptions golf is boring as hell to watch.
  2. I'm not a fan of the proposed prices in the poll's trade scenarios. Another reason I'm ok with some more Johnson.
  3. I think the thought is that if it happens you'd keep posting here and give us all the inside info ????
  4. I think Johnson and ullmark may be a surprisingly good pair. They seemed to mesh well and have good rapport in the food episode of Beyond Blue and Gold. Maybe a case of the sum being much better than the parts? I voted both like and dislike for d4rk though ????
  5. Bogo brings nothing. His play, durability, and contract all suck. My hope is that he is relegated to the Gorges role next near as the 7/8 defenseman. Either that, or the Moulson role of being buried in the minors. Doesn't seem that we're far off from seeing one of those scenarios. Only 2 more years of that $5.15 million cap hit. The countdown continues.
  6. I'll believe it when I see it. Russ throws something out there every year after a lousy season by either the Bills or the Sabres. It's become a running joke. "What will Russ say to keep the fans coming back next year?" Marketing 101. Otherwise known as his job.
  7. Not sure where to put this, but I guess here is as good as anywhere. San Antonio, not a major sports town, has 1 team in the 4 major sports leagues, compared to Buffalo having 2 for example. This year is the first season since 1999 that the Spurs won't win 50 games. Not a losing season, mind you. Not missing the playoffs. Just not winning at least 50 out of 82 games. Their last losing season was 1997. This got me to thinking. Why do some of the other "minor" sports towns, similar in circumstance to Buffalo as far as number of major sports teams, become successful or stay successful for so long? I think the key is good, responsible, motivated ownership. I get the feeling that Buffalo fans are "just happy to be there" most of the time, therefore too content and not inclined to make waves. Teams still sell out and we're still die hard fans when many other fan bases would have given up long ago. There's little to no incentive for ownership to improve the product, either on the field/ice or atmosphere wise. Fans have a say in sports, there's just often an unwillingness to call ownership's bluff and show the appropriate displeasure with an inferior product and/or ownership effort.
  8. Actually it seems to be mainly because of his family's recent tragic loss of a child. https://www.nhl.com/news/ottawa-defenseman-erik-karlsson-not-making-season-ending-trip-with-senators/c-297613548 From link: Erik Karlsson will not travel with the Ottawa Senators for their season-ending three-game road trip so he can be with his wife, Melinda, and their family following the loss of their son, Axel. Later in the article it goes on to say that Ottawa management plans to offer him a contract extension on July 1st. We'll see if that actually happens or if it's even close to what he's worth or what he'll be looking for.
  9. I went into RPO with low/no expectations with the intent of having fun knowing how most Spielberg movies are. With that background, our family of four all thoroughly enjoyed the movie. My kids had also recently read the book and weren't disappointed. The nostalgia and classic video game references were great. The extended part that a classic Stephen King novel turned movie played was the most unexpected and enjoyable part for me. Just turn your brain off and enjoy Spielberg over the top nostalgia on steroids and enjoy yourself. That's what this movie was made for and it served that propose perfectly. Not every movie needs to be dissected thoroughly. Some movies are just fun!
  10. I get that it helped us get Eichel. I get the subtle aspect of it. It could have been accomplished in many other ways, such as trading Myers and Stafford in other deals. Stacking assets. GMTM also wanted Kane and Bogo very, very much. He was all about their concepts. I'm starting to wonder if we didn't give up way too much for Eichel. I like him and am glad we have him, but when you factor in all we did to get him plus the team's performance since, that argument can be made, imo.
  11. I think it has quite a bit to do with it. Yes, they stacked assets, which we should have done instead of "accelerating" our rebuild. For this trade in particular, they cleared cap space, got rid of two problem contracts given what they were getting for their money from Kane and Bogo. They also got some great depth and prospects in Lemieux and Roslovic. I would love to have both of them in our current system. There's also a good argument that they likely got the best player in that trade in hindsight, maybe both current and future. Still, by far, the worst trade of GMTM's spectacular tenure here.
  12. Agreed in that aspect. I was talking more about the not letting it go and behavior unbecoming of an AP journalist. Similar to the recent and Collier incidents in those respects.
  13. He's also done it right here on this very board. This is normal behavior, from what I've seen.
  14. Interesting, but I'll pass. I'm not much into the Bills or of Wawrow, considering what I've seen of him on here.
  15. Wawrow actually piled on more, longer, and later at night. I thought he actually ended up looking worse than Harrington. Recall back in the day when Drane and Wawrow (mostly Wawrow, mostly late at night) would go at it. Some of the phrasing Wawrow used was even familiar from those Drane back and forths. I'm probably in big trouble now. Wawrow seems to have thin skin
  16. I think the biggest thing that posters here are missing is that Kane's just not that good. Sure, there will be glimpses and stretches here and there, but he's been overrated his whole career. People easily forget how bad he was that first year here in Buffalo. He's probably overpaid now for what you get and he'll almost surely be overpaid by someone this summer. We got what we could for him. I also tend to think that what GMTM gave up for him affects fans' opinions of his value. I'm sure that if the Sabres weren't in the position they were with the GM they had at the time we traded for him that he would have been traded for the same, or very likely less, than what JBots just traded him for. Oh, and we also got the cap anchor Bogo, who is really, really not good. I chuckle every time someone says look for a bounce back from him. Every single year. He'll be injured most of the rest of his Buffalo career, and when he does play he'll suck. He's been here long enough so that this should be more evident.
  17. Haha. I checked and he is listed as a center on Cleveland's (AHL) roster. Nice pic too! You can also add "puck distributing" to center since he had 1 goal and 9 assists. Proof: #90 Nathan Gerbe - C edit: Pi will notice and love his -7 too, despite being almost a ppg. further edit: Listed at 5'5". Those listings are usually generous too.
  18. Blue Jackets really banged up, so Nathan Gerbe has been called up and will play his first NHL game in 2 years. Had 10 points in 11 games in the AHL. http://www.dispatch.com/sports/20180222/blue-jackets-gerbe-excited-to-be-back-in-nhl-eager-to-play
  19. Saw The Disaster Artist and The Post last weekend. Shame that James Franco apparently behaved inappropriately and is (appropriately, imo) realizing the consequences for that alleged behavior because his performance was great in The Disaster Artist. Very funny movie. What a weird dude the guy who made The Room is/was. The Post was really good too. All Star cast including Bob Odinkirk and David Cross playing serious roles as reporters. Vietnam era setting but very relevant to today in regards to feminism, the role of the media, truthfulness of the government, etc. 3 Billboards still my favorite so far! #moviepass
  20. I've now seen Three Billboards, The Shape of Water, and Lady Bird so far as far as the Oscar nominees go. All three are good to great movies. All very different from one another. All definitely worth a watch. I'd put Three Billboards as the best of these 3. Just a great movie. Shape of Water was good, but very strange and gimmicky (not sure if that's the right word, but something similar to that). Lady Bird was at times very funny and the next second extremely saddening or vice versa. Great coming of age story. Three Billboards should win best picture and has done very well in the award season preliminaries, but The Shape of Water seems to have the momentum and could do very well Oscar-wise. 13 nominations (1 off the all time record) for Shape of Water seemed to be just a bit too much in my view, but I understand the appeal. Three Billboards may have peaked too soon, while The Shape of Water is peaking when it matters.
  21. Or was Bogo's hard practice check on Kane sticking up for Falk? In typical Bogo fashion he hurt himself though  Bogo has the most history with Kane, across two organizations. Seems to me, he was trying to send a message.
  22. There was a couple of us here. Robviously and myself that I recall. It was frustrating fighting that battle against the whole rest of the board, but it was actually a gift. Between that and the state of the Sabres franchise, I haven't paid too much attention to the team. That separation has allowed me to just appreciate the gallows humor that is this team from top to bottom, and not be invested enough for them to affect my life in any way. Kind of how I felt with the Bills drought. When they get their in order, I'll be there rooting like hell for them. Until then, they aren't worth my limited free time to care. The Bills playoff game was the first NFL game I've watched in over 3 years. Even then I couldn't get through the whole thing due to the team's performance, the modern NFL experience (commercials, officiating, etc.), and other obligations to attend to that day, but I was there in my long stored away Bills gear hoping for the best. Switching to another team is not an option for me, but neither is trying to organize my life around teams that aren't worth the effort to do so. So here I sit, waiting for them to pull me back in again while life goes on otherwise.
  23. You need to add Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri to your list. Saw that yesterday and can't recommend it enough. IMDb calls it a "darkly comic drama", which i think sums it up pretty well. Lots of twists and turns. It will be criminal if Frances McDormand is not up for best actress for her performance in this. She was amazing. Great cast with Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, Peter Dinklage, Lucas Hedges, etc. Getting great reviews from critics and audience from what I saw. Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jit3YhGx5pU Lady Bird does look good too. Will likely see that one soon.
  24. How about an ex POTUS? H.W. is up to 7 accusers now and counting. Mind blowing to me to think of that particular president accused of this stuff this many times.
