BriseBois throws away picks for Gourde and Jeannot, but there's only a few pick slots difference between his 1st and Buffalo's 2nd. The problem is one team is generating plenty of playoff revenue and 2 Cups and has a roster that can flip the switch to kick-ass at any time. And the other is.... none of those things.

Which he has done. Is he a defensive stalwart? No. But, he's improved each season and has been slightly more consistent than last year (where he disappeared for a month; this year it's down to a week or so at a time). By his mid-20s he could be an all-around top 6 guy on any good/championship caliber team in the league.

2025 NHL Trade Deadline: March 7th, at 3pm Eastern

Does the short term of removing Cozens and adding Norris get them up to 8th overall by the end of the season (particularly if a team jumps ahead of them via the lottery)? -
Sabres Extend Jason Zucker 2 years 4.75 million AAV

He doesn't need to score like he did this season; if he can continue to play like he has this season -- engaged, aggressive, and responsible across any line he's deployed on (Zucker's "line" has often been the Sabres' best line all year), then is an excellent signing. Yes, the speed will drop off at some point, but if they get two more years like this year's Zucker, this is an excellent move. I want Benson learning from Zucker (moreso than from say, Okposo's game toward the end) -
It’s fine for the remove Cozens from the lineup and have an NHL center alongside Quinn argument. That’s good and I agree. But if it’s only for 40 games/season or fewer as the contract goes on and Norris’ body wears down further it’ll be a miss. (Though the Sabres could then pull the LTIR card — if the owner were willing to spend money that is.) Ottawa’s first move (after a 3 game trial period that shows poorly in the video reviews by the assistants) will be to move Cozens to wing.

Not a trainwreck waiting to happen in his own zone? Or rather... he's not a Sabre anymore. -

Card player, Green Bay Gambler, scum. You'd like him. My biggest fear for him was his affiliation with the USNTDP, which makes him just another in the long line of Sabres U they've had on staff since Pegula took over. But, he's got a very skilled forward group going (Prospal) and baby defensemen (Paetsch) going well, and has the benefit of a top-10 AHL goalie. I'm not sure where they'd be if Levi was in the NHL, Reimer had not been reclaimed, and they were rolling Sandstrom and Houser all season. -

Risto was once a mid-first (Rosén), a second (Wahlberg), and a Hagg. And he's better now! -

Absolutely. Folks are getting assets for rentals. If Zucker isn't re-signed then you absolutely need to ship him out today while you can get a 1st and a 3rd. At the very least, give yourself an extra asset to move for a player in the summer. -
What will be the Sabres approach at the trade deadline?

Trading Holzinger, Primeau, Sarich and a 4th (Kharitonov) into Gratton and a 2nd (Derek Roy), then spinning Gratton and a 4th (Liam Reddox) to become Briere and Sekera wasn't too bad a pair of moves. (The Gratton Exchange) A 3-4C, a career 4th liner, and Sarich, who was an extremely solid 4-6D for most of his career for a 2C, 1C/W captain, and a 3-5D is a good turn of events. -

They did it! Also, as we remember, the 2nd half of last season UPL was one of the best goalies in the league. This season, not so much. -

Misa or Schaefer, Buffalo had better move up in the lottery. Because as bad as they are, it'll be very difficult to catch San Jose/Chicago given their leads, Nashville and Pittsburgh are in an all-out race to the bottom. (I sorta think the Pens win the lottery to get Schaefer this year, then truly tank next season for McKenna. Then, a couple seasons for the old 3 to hand off to the next generation. It's like poetry, it rhymes.)
