Mesar is pretty. (good footrace and battle won and then pass, too, by Slafkovsky) -

Annual expectations thread 2022/23: #72 Tage Thompson
DarthEbriate replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
Fewer goals than last year, but more points. In his second year as a center, he'll be slightly better defensively and slightly better at faceoffs. Those minor increases, plus an entire season of either a healthy Tuch or VO at his side, will have everyone excited by year's end. 30-40-70. -
How high can we get it?

Movers and shakers between July's Dev Camp roster and the Prospects Challenge roster: Lindgren & Laaksonen: -1 in each Komarov: +2 in, +10 lbs Rousek: +20 lbs Rosen: +8 lbs (stole it from Kulich) Olischefski: +1 in, +2 lb... transferred it with Nadeau: -1 in, -2 lbs Kulich: -8 lbs

I'll take that bet. I'll wager my new racing pod on the over.

Annual expectations thread 2022/23: #53 Jeff Skinner
DarthEbriate replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
Is he on Tage's wing again? 30+ because the 2nd line will prevent the opposing team from going full-bore against jump the top trio. Is he on Cozens' wing? 20 goals. Is he buried with Girgs and Sheahan, Krueger-style? Not going to happen. It's going to be an endless party in the USA this winter. -
Happy birthday! Thanks for all your work to keep this going and for putting up with my quotes.

Annual expectations thread 2022/23: #45 Casey Fitzgerald

How many Caseys do we got on this ship anyway? I knew it... I'm surrounded by Caseys. Keep scoring, Caseys! -
I have limited notes, but Eichel and Reinhart both skated in the 2015 Prospects Challenge Tournament --- Eichel assisted Baptiste on his first shift 25 seconds into game 1, then Eichel scored twice including the OT winner in another game against Boston. In 2018, Dahlin played in the first game only, then was healthy-scratched the remainder of the tourney. 2-1-3 in that first game. (Olofsson 1 PP, Thompson and Nylander with 1 SHG each)

You wouldn't be surprised that a team that is proclaiming and demonstrating not rushing the kids (e.g., acquired Krebs [playing in the NHL on a then division-leading team] and sent him to ROC, and only called up JJP when 7 forwards were out with injuries/COVID [and Quinn had mono] despite JJP and Quinn having top-flight AHL rookie seasons) is suddenly going to do a complete about face and rush an 18 year-old who has never played on North American size ice in a professional game to start the season against the new-look Debrincat/Giroux Sens who are out to prove that they are the 70-point team that's ready to make the jump in the division, then the best offense in the league Panthers, then the NW road trip that starts with McDavid/Draisaitl and a Calgary squad that is going to be ornery but still super talented... over the likes of proven AHL talents looking to stick in the NHL lineup Krebs, Quinn, or JJP, or the likes of established NHL vets who can kill penalties and float up the lineup and forecheck at the NHL level (Hino, Girgs, Sheahan -- yes, even Bjork)?

At least Eakin was a Sabre as recently as 2020-2021.
-
I think what everyone's thinking is that Kulich is one of the very last to get sent down the Rochester, getting extensive time and fun with the big squad. But absolutely he's not making the Sabres unless there are 6 or more injuries at forward in the preseason.

Someone who will not be in Buffalo's opening line up: Casey Nelson. Annual reminder to ESPN: Casey Nelson is not on the Sabres roster. https://www.espn.com/nhl/team/roster/_/name/buf/buffalo-sabres

That'll be disappointing considering they were drafted 124th/161st, respectively. -
Miller was a very good, very consistent goalie. Other than his Vezina year I don't think you'd ever rank him in the top 5 starting goalies of a season, but he'd almost always be in that next echelon -- say top 12. Basically, if you had a competitive roster, he'd backstop you to the playoffs, no problem; he just wasn't going to be the one to drag your middling roster into the playoffs on his back. Miller only had 2 seasons above .918% in his career, likewise he only had 5 seasons below .911% and those included age 22/23/39/40 and some very limited games played. He had one poor-ish season his entire career and it was the season after losing Briere/Drury when the entire team was rebuilding on the fly.

I'm hearing RJ's cadence/delivery for "He left a vapor trail" spun as "He used the Cata-Polt!" -
Annual expectations thread 2022/23: #41 Craig Anderson
DarthEbriate replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
The communication and poise and positioning while anticipating the play will be there. The young defense will look calm in front of him. I hope Anderson is able to give the team 15-20 solid games as the backup and gets good offensive support so he can again scrape together a winning record. But like last year, I don't see Anderson exceeding .900 sv%. The team needs Comrie to be a #1 for 45-50 games, get the 15-20 from Anderson, and then give UPL a handful to showcase as backup for next season, if warranted. (And save 6 games for Levi and Portillo to get their .940+ and 1 shutout each.) -
This is it! I imagine Buffalo '22 feels much like the summer of Green Bay '96. The Bills lost to the Chiefs in the AFC championship and the AFC Divisional the last 2 years, but they've gotten better and the Chiefs have stayed even. You've got 25 years of angst and rage pent up and your team is ready, your quarterback is ready, your defense is ready. It's your year. Now go take it. Or in another idiom: "You're all clear kid. Now let's blow this thing and go home (and party)." (Note: Unless you play GB in the Super Bowl (unlikely). In that case, I hope your offense is standing in the huddle in the 1st quarter, and then Allen kneels down to give the play, and then he claps his hands and suffers a horrific ACL-MCL-PCL explosion, causing him to lurch sideways resulting in a domino-effect of 10 more blown ACLs. The Packers go on to crush the Bills 65-0 ('90s-NFC-East-style) and all y'all Bills fans go can go to hell. But other than that, I hope the Bills win it all this year. For Kenneth Davis, James Lofton, and all your fans.)

Mitts has a quiet 40 points as a center/winger with PP2 time. He gets better in the faceoff dot, gets more tenacious, and looks like a solid player. -

#8 was all, "It's over, I have the high ground." Poltapov yelled, "You underestimate my Polta-hops!" -
Annual expectations thread 2022/23: #19 Peyton Krebs
DarthEbriate replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
Krebs has a lot more punk/pest in him than Connolly, Roy, or Zinger. He could become an excellent, high-skill 3C in a year or two if the top-6 doesn't pan come to fruition. -
The Binnington deal comes to mind. Won them a Cup. Was just below average for 2 years with 2 poor playoffs, and then this regular season Husso outplayed him all year until the playoffs... and Cup-level Binnington reappeared. He was even fantastic against Colorado until he got Kadri'ed.
