It's never too late for a bedtime story of good vs. evil. The short story is that "Sheev" is Emperor Palpatine's first name. I suppose he needed a first name in one of the books? Or one day someone asked, "What's the Emperor's first name?" and George Lucas looked at a nearby "Hi My Name Is…" nametag sticker and said… "Uh, Steve… Sheev. His name is Sheev. And it always has been." The real story is: A long time ago on a franchise near, nearby… The Sabres Franchise hired an ambitious milquetoasty young Senator assistant from the Naboot-licker Carolina System named Sheevyn Adams to help Grand Ruff [Tarkin] HC. Eventually, it was time for the Grand Ruff to go off on a special assignment to begin construction of a new Death Star Stanley Cup with another franchise or two. The pursuit would take many unexpected years…. At this time, the Sabres enacted a new course of action for their Trade Federation Coaching Staff: a winning blockade the Sabres University. With Daultray Dofine HC Roltray Rolstine behind the bench leading the bureaucracy, Sheevyn had to find a new role. In helping the Grand Ruff turn Matt Ellis into the Matt Ellis of Matt Ellises, Adams had caught the notice of the mysterious and reclusive Darth Pegulas the Wise. Sheevyn was given a task by Darth Pegulas. When the University struggled, Sheevyn helped gain approval of a Vote of No Confidence in then-Chancellor Valorum Tim Murray GM Timis Yarorum. Sometimes going under the name of Darth Sidious Adamious, he moved behind the scenes and found himself named the Sr. VP of Business Administration. When Darth Pegulas needed to enact Order EEE, he knew whom to contact. Sheevyn was a willing apprentice. Replace the then Supreme GM Count Dooku JBott and be able to help get things Economical? You betcha! That's pure Business Admin 101. Need to maintain your current lifestyle but you're spending too much money on Clones? Clone scouting? Minor League Clones? Cut, cut, and cut. The Great Jedi Purge was finalized. Sheevyn Palpatine was then named Supreme GM of the Franchise, having taken only about 10 years to enact his coup (just like the real-Star Wars Sheev Palpatine from Episodes I-III). And that's the story of Sheevyn. So far.

Was there anything in either Pettersson or Miller’s game last night that led anyone to believe that they’d be a useful part of the Sabres for the next 6 seasons?

Seriously, this is the last time the Sabres draft in the top 5 for 15 years. Not the last this time, or the this time before that one… this time is the one.

We’re taking this TDG in brave new directions. There was Ronning, Jyrki Lumme, and one of the Courtnalls.

He left AHL rebounds in an NHL world. And at other times, his defenders blocked the shot, but being a small goalie he was far out to cut off the angle, and the blocked rebound went to an angle he couldn't cover and that his defenders couldn't get to quickly enough. He made a few very good reflex saves.

Reflecting on the way home… I hate to break it to us… but maybe the Sabres aren’t all that good. I also am not enough of an extrovert to get a “Fire Sheevyn” chant going amongst a bunch of Kraken-loving strangers.

The worst thing for the Sabres is a Bills championship. It’d just allow Darth Pegulas to stay EEE and Adams another 5 years. But of the remaining teams, I hope the Bills win out.

I am not doing my annual pilgrimage to Vancouver. (Though since Seattle has a team I don’t need to.). Not great play after 3 days rest. NAK was engaged. When he was on the ice, that is.

This Kraken lineup is better with Dunn back in the lineup. Everything else falls into place.

Seriously, could this team not give up a response goal? Or not give up two opposition goals within 2 minutes? They collapse so readily after an event. Remove those type of goals and they’re probably still a final wild card spot.
