I think Joe is next for an extension.

That would be the Brind’amour/Lindros conspiracy.

I’ve seen a couple tv reports that talk about both. I haven’t seen too many about Russia/Ukraine.

Apparently tomorrow is supposed to be a Global Day of Jihad. I’d post an article but there are a lot from all over. No idea how valid the threat is but I know it’s 2023 and the world is weird. Obviously anyone including terrorists aim to maximize damage. Stay safe and be aware of your surroundings. Hopefully nothing happens.

I felt like the Sabres were gassed out after the 10 minute mark of each period. They played a little physical which was nice to see and kudos to Greenway for leading that charge. I like Mitts and Benson together. I think this is a better fit than Mitts and VO. Our top line had some moments but Tuch in particular was ineffective. Krebs had some spark and Peterka has definitely gained some confidence. I hate to say it but KO retiring after this year and Girgs seeking a new team may not be the worst thing.

In the very beginning the narrator talks about power balance. This has been ongoing issue in the region since the Afghan withdrawal. It’s not unexpected but with a much smaller U.S. and allied presence, other actors will take advantage of the freedom of movement. This includes terrorist and paramilitary actions. I told my wife. There hasn’t been much talk about these groups since COVID. They never went away, stopped recruiting, or planning. This attack, despite their losses and repercussions will embolden them and others. The U.S. is funding Ukraine in Europe. I wouldn’t put it past Russia via proxy (Iran/Syria) to do the same in the Middle East. Meanwhile, Russia and China and NK have been in the news working together. https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/09/15/china/china-kim-putin-summit-russia-north-korea-intl-hnk/index.html

Yeah. My concern is very much in the Israeli hostages. I’m willing to bet they get used as a bargaining chip to ease/cease hostilities when it becomes apparent **** around and find out is Israel’s strategy. IDF SpecOps apparently captured the Hamas Maritime Commander 24 hours after the attack. Between Mossad and SF, Hamas is in for it. Hezbollah’s rocket attacks might be a means to ease Israeli pressure and divide their forces. Just a guess though.

Sabres Announce Owen Power Extension 7 years, 8.35 Million AAV

Just under 20mil to keep OP and Dahlin. I’m good with it. -
Terrorist organizations have other funding streams. Drugs, human trafficking, and actual donations to name a few. IMO that $6B would be too hot to launder. Especially for such a high profile attack. Nonetheless you are correct that it is being controlled and I’m not sure any of it has been tapped into. I don’t subscribe to the theory it was used to fund the Israel attack. Not a fan of using this for political gain. Ethics aside, it detracts from the facts of the issue. Iran has a history of being tied to terrorism. Hamas claimed they were Iranian backed but I believe Iran denied that claim. Doesn’t mean Iran is telling the truth though. Simultaneously Hezbollah is launching rockets from Lebanon. I have no way of knowing Hezbollah’s funding but I don’t rule out they may have played a big part in funding Hamas. I created a thread for discussing all these conflicts. I’d be happy to discuss further there.

I didn’t know where else to put it. I imagine it would have made its way into the politics club if I put it in the main thread.

My scientific calculator matches your numbers.

How concerned is Sabrespace about the defense and goaltending?
SABRES 0311 replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
I am moderately concerned because of the history of our defense and goaltending. I would say give it to mid-November and we’ll have a much better picture. -
Those teams are going to win and lose games no matter what. Rooting for any team has no impact on that. It is up to the Sabres to make sure they win more games over a six month season. I want the Sabres to make the playoffs but it’s still fun to see one team beat another. If TBL plays VGK in December, I will probably root for TBL. It’s a different story in Jan or Feb though. Bottom line is it’s weird that you honed in on something that didn’t go along with your perspective. It’s unhealthy (but funny) that it caused you to throw insults on night one of the season.

PK seems more mature during the intermission report. Still underdressed but actually adding coherent analysis. And not spinning around in his chair is a plus.
-
Nah, but being so high strung to post that is.

I forgot if the Pens win tonight the Buffalo is eliminated from a playoff spot.
-
One game doesn’t matter. J/K

I never really liked CHI so I’m rooting for PIT tonight.

Any line with VO is a buzz kill but it’s not like there are many choices. Unless Benson takes his spot on the second line. That would put VO back with Mitts and that is a hard hell no. I’m already looking forward to Quinn’s return.
