First time in a LOOOONG time I was pulling for a win. And it felt good.

Not as devastating as having a guy that doesn't want to be here overseeing a complete rebuild. If he wants to quit his first GM job then adios buddy. Pretty sure TP has some avenues he could take contractually that would make it difficult for TM. On the other hand if your TP and your GM wants out what do you do?

Pysyk may be reaching the point he needs a change of scenary. This past year could not have been good for his mindset. He earned a roster spot on this team and became a victim of tankitis.

Agree with this. I do not want to see Ennis moved.

Keep Ennis. Throw in Hodgson.

I got ya but my point was more only in Buffalo can we go into a two-year tank trying to convince the fans of the importance of a McEichle. Then we find a way to screw that up as well. I have never been a total pro tanker but i see absolutely no benefit from picking anywhere other than 1 or 2 at this point. We need that top guy. Reinhart is not it. If he is the top prize of the rebuild we are in trouble.

Your trying to tell me every other hockey city runs their team like this??

Exactly. Only in Buffalo. I will say that no matter what happens on draft day the day after should be the best the day in Sabre history. Maybe we can put an end to all this tank crap, McEichle, etc etc and just move forward. This is an era in Sabres history that i just want to be over. As much as I want to see one of those two in a Sabre uni I just want to be done with this bush league garbage.

Tank or no tank can we all just agree that this is just one gigantic cluster...!!

Because if you allow one to do it then all will do it. Then your GMD's turn into a adolescent view of a hockey game.

Agreed. I think Risto is almost a lock for a long solid career. Z on the other worries me a little because of the weight issue but that could be just immaturity.
-
Both Risto and Zadarov have an edge to them. Even during his Calder season Myers was soft. One thing seperates those two from Myers and that is toughness. Myers will never have it. They both play with more attitude and balls than Myers could only dream of.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

My complaint pertains to tomorrow so I guess it may qualify as a complaint Thursday. My sister is making dinner. Problem is so is my mother-in law. For years it was always one family would host dinner. However, my sister and mother have become addicted to the early shopping crap that is a complaint in its own right. Therefore her dinner is at 2. My in-laws is at 5. All week I have been listening to my wife tell me how much food her mom is making and we can't eat much at my sister's because nobody will be hungry at 5. On the flip side I have my mom telling me how much her and my sister are making and "it's going to so nice having all the kids together ". So instead of having a nice relaxing day I will be trying to make sure both my sister and mother-in law are satisfied with my food intake. Don't get me wrong I can eat but eating usually requires sleeping. Hopefully my sister is not offended when I take a 3:00-4:30 nap in preperation for the next feast at 5.

I was thinking the same thing.

I know exactly what you are saying. I have made similar comments before that I have faith in Murray to turn this around regardless of our draft slot. My position on it is simply come draft day there is not one Sabre fan who will not be sick to their stomach when/if they watch McDavid go 1 and Eichle go 2. Spin it however you want but that is the reality of it. Mainly because we have had this tank rammed down our throat for so long. On a different note I don't see us using all 3 first round picks we have. Either he packages the two late picks to move up or he uses at least one in a package for a veteran.
-
My Reinhart comment was simply that he was so not ready for the NHL. Will he be a solid player - most likely yes. However, I don't think at the end of the day if we end up with Reinhart and Strome as the two main pieces to the tank we will consider that worth it. Yes, we accumulated a lot of other players that have the POTENTIAL to be good NHL players. Nome of them are in the same league as McEichle. Are we on the way up as a respectable team? Yes. Will we survive without McEichle? Yes. Will we be MUCH better off with McEichle? Yes. That is non-debatable and finishing 4th would be a downright joke. For arguements sake the year Crosby went #1 Benoit Pouliet went #4. Sure Pitt probably would have been ok with Pouliet (hey that rhymes) but they sure were a hell of a lot better off with Sid.

8 guys over 35 years old.
-
The young players that are helping us make it all the way to 4th from last are Zemgus, Risto, and Zadarov. That is 3 guys!!! Now go look at every other team in the league and see if we are unique in that. Who else on this team is that big of deal that we can say their improvement is so great that it makes a Strome over a McEichle not that big of deal? With less than 7 months to go lets not get goofy and forget what we are trying to accomplish here. Adding a McEichle to the guys you mentioned above is what will make this a rebuild and not just a roster makeover. When McEichle is tearing up the league and our 4th pick is pulling a Reinhart I think it will be much clearer. This season and these wins mean nothing. Yes, hopefully the young guys continue to develop but you would trade both Risto and Zadarov for McEichle in a heartbeat so why in the hell would we settle for 4th because a few guys showed improvement?
-
I disagree. If trading Myers is part of the plan he may be more apt to do it earlier in the season if we are in jeopardy of falling into that 4-6th pick range. Remember the "manipulate the draft " comment. This team (or more directly TP) did not go all in for Hannifan or Marzal. Again, this is if and only IF Myers is not GMTM's guy. I agree he does not trade a player to get worse this year solely to tank. He will though trade a player to get worse THIS year if that player is not in the long term rebuild plan. Not sure where Myers stands. So your ok we finiah 4th and take Strome but yet you regularly state that the year to tank was the lockout year when we missed out on McKinnon. You have me slightly confused. So your ok finishing a meaningless 4th and take a Strome when you could have had a McEichle. Not buying that one.
-
If GMTM has a vision of what he wants on this team in 3 years and Myers is not part of it then he will be gone sooner rather than later. If sooner it will no doubt have an affect on the rest of the season. Regardless what they say finishing outside McEichle is a nightmare scenario for them. They did not sell this tank and the need for star players on us to finish 4th. I just have this feeling that GMTM wants this to be HIS team. For whatever reason I do not get the impression that Myers is his guy. I fully expect a Myers/Hodgson deal at some point. And it won't be for players that immediately jump into our lineup. Not saying I like the idea just think that he has a vision of the team he wants and those two will not be part of it.
-
Totally depends on what GMTM's plan is. If he wants to win now his best chance is to keep him. If he wants McEichle and is totally ok with at least 3 more years of rebuild then he moves him. Personally, i am tired of picks and prospects. Unfortunately, i don't see him being moved for a player that helps us today. So to answer your question I guess if i was making the call i would want a top prospect both on offense and defense. Maybe add one of our seconds at get the other teams first.
-
My point is if a team is willing to offer you top pairing trade value you take it.
-
Also if your GMTM your projecting out 3 years. Yes, today Myers is a top pairing Dman for us. Is he the guy we think can be a top pairing Dman on a Cup contending team that we are trying to build. I think GMTM knows the answer to this. We will not win a Cup with Myers in our top pair. He is simply not and never will be mentally strong enough. So if that is the case and a team wants to throw us potential top 6 forwards then you jump all over it. With 3 first rounders and two seconds you have to figure he drafts one D in each round. We will be fine on D without Myers.
