I'm not streaming- if i download a playlist for offline use, the only data usage is scrobbling info as to what i listened to, and I can turn that off as well. I accidentally was streaming at one point, and yea... that'll use up your data lickety split  I also just stick stuff on my itunes. I've even entertained the idea of digging up my ipod nano and just using that, since that's the only reason i have my phone on in the car.

I do it to some degree with spotify. I have premium because I listen so much, and I make one or two playlists that I download and can play in the car. It's like my old mix tapes. My old CDs barely play anymore, so I often just make playlists of those CDs, put the windows down, and drive an extra ten minutes in the country. Helps my mental state a lot. But yeah, it's not the same. I just stumbled across all my old high school/college mixes the other day (ironically while d4rk was watching the final Hip concert) and man, brings up a lot of old feelings. I have a hard time delving into new stuff now. Never used to be a problem, I was hungry to listen to any and everything. Now I just find myself reaching for the comfort of the old favorites.

Today I realized that Colbert with a touch of grey, some floof in the hair, and those glasses looks very similar to Colin Firth in Kingsman. I am not complaining.

It's tornado season. These b@stards were near my parent's house in NW ohio yesterday: Aaand more rough weather forecast for tonight. It's been a few years since a really bad outbreak, and I've yet to see a tornadic storm up here in NY, but I still get that horrible chill down my spine when I see those things marching up from Indianapolis. Add in the inability to do anything but receive hysterical texts from my mother... Hate it.

I just read about that. I'll be ready with donations to relief, and I hate that I don't know what else to do. Every new disaster I say the same thing, "my thoughts are with ___" "my heart goes out to the people of _____". I feel sadness and helplessness. Just seems there's been an inordinate amount of awful this year. I hope for the best for them.

Brooks, Python, Tom Lehrer, dirty limericks, ah, those were my upbringing. I've been raised on dirty jokes since day one, reveled in poor taste from as early as I could understand it, and been the number one filthy mouthed joke spewer at most parties. But I guess I just find a time and a place for such things. Some places and people, sure! Other places and people, pretend I'm a mature adult and maintain decorum. But never slurs- even in my worst jokes, they are too difficult to say. That's my position on political correctness!

I never had much trouble with Delta. Now Air Canada... but I don't know how much of that was their fault and how much of it is the hell that is Toronto Pearson Airport... seriously, eff that place.

Okposo! My goodness I'm ready for October. It's nice to have cautious, guarded optimism with a healthy dose of realistic expectations. A little improvement and fun is all I'm looking for this year. This run up to the new season is like the couple weeks before the first day of spring- you can feel the change coming, you're impatient for it to get here, but you're ready for a little more slop and storms to get there.

 I didn't get to participate Sunday- nasty storms were forecast and I didn't want to pay money to race and then have it cancelled. So I'll be trying at the Ralph (sorry, new era...) in Buffalo on 9/11 instead. I got to test drive the car a bit on Saturday, and yeah, I'm definitely not used to just diving into it and squealing those tires. His car has a ton of body roll too, so I end up using a lot more of my abs to keep full control than I anticipated. I'm ace at gokarts, so it's just like a big ol' go kart! Drove a bit in the rain and the a$$ was kicking out all over. Decided I'd wait until I'm more experienced to race in the rain. Thanks for the advice! I hope to drive it a bit more before I actually race. My friend can just throw it into curves without fear and I'm still getting used not expecting to roll haha It was pretty hilarious to get back into my car (stock subaru impreza) and have it feel like a giant squishy land yacht!

I really enjoyed seeing the end of that race. Rupp had a great quote which I will now botch; something along the lines of "It's like in Happy Gilmore where Happy wanted to be a hockey player but ends up better at golf. I wanted to be a 10k runner but maybe I should be doing marathon" Neat stuff. Still boggles my mind. I have several distance runner/triathlete friends and I believe it's their way of zenning out/escaping their usually incredibly busy/overachieving lives for a couple hours while still going after a lofty goal.

Eh, I'm nuts. It's pretty obvious haha Almost played hockey again for the first time tonight, but too much work fell on my head. Soon, though! As in, next week I think! Will be doing autocross for real this time (storms and rains yesterday, I bailed) on the 11th. Red Barn is open again I think, so back to that!

I painted it.

I doubt they'll be great about it. I plan to catch as much of it by online streaming as I can.

Great to hear. I'm excited for the Paralympics. They start September 7th I believe. Also, Tokyo 2020 looks like it'll be great. I have a feeling it'll be the most precise, pulled together Games in modern memory. As long as Akira doesn't play out in the stadium in reality... we're gold!

Haha you make it sound like I keep you in a dungeon, deprived of Canadian music. Just not a fan. I'd never heard of them until a good year or so into dating d4rk. And I'll get yelled at for this, but I just don't... like them. I guess it's one of those things, if you're brought up listening to them, you love 'em. I feel that way about Harry Chapin or Gordon Lightfoot, but I'm sure many others would go "eh, what's so special". So hey, enjoy, I'm glad everyone's having a moment together.

A lot of the time, the riders will try to stress the horse made it possible. Horse gets nice oats at the end, doesn't give a sh!t about medals. They do get ribbons though. Huzzah. At the risk of sounding like a horse girl (dear god no I swear I am not), some horses are just plain athletes. And I've seen plenty of them in medal round go "pff, not feelin it" and not clear their jumps or whatever. A great rider can overcome that to a certain extent, but yeah, it's a partnership. It'd be like your synchronized diving partner just not quite pulling their weight. It's a bit of an odd sport for Olympics, yeah, that's a well worn argument at this point. Meh. But riding's pretty damn tough, and they're marking your ability to look completely calm and relaxed while controlling a 1500 pound animal with your fingertips. Full disclosure, I find dressage boring a.f. to watch. Give me rodeo, roping, or barrel racing any day. Anyways: This is probably my favorite little silly thing about track n field- remote control cars to retrieve discus/javelin/ etc http://www.sportingnews.com/athletics/news/remote-control-go-fer-vehicles-trucks-discus-javelin-hammer-olympic-track-and-field-rio-brazil/muefv58rkgyt1hgtc2k3wl5np

I'm going to try autocross for the first time Sunday. I'm kinda terrified, mostly of looking like a total idiot ( which I realize is unavoidable). But I like driving, so... why the hell not. All these years making fun of miatas, and here I go, driving my friend's miata...

I'll just show your calves. Never fear.

Amazing. What dumba$$es.

Just wait till I artistically immortalize the great SS meetup.

Wondering where's the key to Lochtegate. Man, I dunno. Why would you make that sh!t up. And yet, upon more reading, it appears it may all be BS... Pretty dramatic, yanking them off airplanes and such.
-
I seriously cannot imagine how pissed I would be if shark week began the day before my big huge Olympic moment. It's something I always wonder about when I see female athletes/performers doing their thing. Good on her for mentioning something that 50% the world population deals with.

You're not wrong. Just a quick scan of her wiki and such, yeah, lot of similarities. Kinda eerie, if I'm honest. And it's cool! She's a cool lady.

HA I guess I can't deny some of the resemblance. We both have kind of crooked smirks/big noses/odd faces and jewish/irish ancestry. My face was half paralyzed as a kid, never really got that symmetry back (but who does..) I've got one of those faces where I can't point out a doppelganger but every so often someone will come up to me and be like "Holy Sh!t you look exactly like my friend".

Red Barn's been closed, so a coworker and I popped up to Durand Eastman today to climb the ruins of the "white lady's castle". The cobblestones were a lot smoother than anticipated and made handholds difficult. That and the loads of cobwebs full of grumpy spiders who weren't too happy with our clambering about. Didn't go very high since we don't have crash mats and the ground isn't very level. Well, Devin did, but he's stronger and crazier than me. Great place to work on finger grip though- almost every single handhold is a crimp. Bonus- when I was done I went and cooled my aching toes off in Lake Ontario across the street! The "castle" or 3 lakes pavillion. Devin going at it. Yours truly klutzing along and discovering centipede chums and beetle buddies in the cracks Devin and a good view of what we hope was chalk and not bird droppings... Some of the stones are really nicely textured and make good grips. Others were smooth sandstone and you'd just slip right off. Spent a lot of time testing different rocks rather than actually moving. Me again, avoiding a giant looming finger of death. I never went very high for fear of falling and then busting something, I just did a lot of side climbing and generally just hung out a lot, making pals with the giant daddy long legs that decided to hang out on my arm for awhile.
