The US political climate is in turmoil, the country's people ask the question, "What would our founding fathers do if they were alive today?" Easy. Desperately and confusedly claw at the ceilings of their coffins.

Last week my credit card got stolen. My temp registration for my car is almost up, and neither the new registration nor my replacement card are here yet. Throw in some mild food poisoning, never ending deadlines, and now a cold... and I'm really believing in this "planets in retrograde" stuff. Stupid.

not especially, not in the same way- I recognize the Family was a group of people, living together, feeding off each other, and have become a pop culture touchstone to the end of the summer of love, etc. But believe me, there's an unsettling amount of people who follow/have obsession with/in some cases nearly worship some of these shooters- especially the Columbine duo. And I'm using the shooters as one example in this case. Metal/hard rock exists in some part to poke at/unravel societal norms. Now, I totally get that Zombie/Manson aren't out here deifying The Family, and I would maybe understand the thinking behind a controversial/edgy band playing 9/11 footage or interviews with teh Aurora shooting guy behind their set for a a similar another decade or two from now- content/context would be important here (if you're playing Dylan Roof footage and your music is somewhat pro-white supremacy...well... whole other can of worms). Someone like my mom, however, would find the Manson footage just as disgusting as I would find seeing Elliott Rogers/other f*cked up perpetrators of violence up there. That sh!t was very real to her, and she's precisely the target to "bother" with it. It's a line that hasn't been crossed yet, but I guess it came to mind because Manson in particular has had the Censory boards after him in part due to Columbine, and was somewhat (and wrongly/stupidly) blamed for inspiring those kids. Him and Rammstein, the Matrix, and video games. He sometimes includes guns and that whole look into his shows- partly because he always has, partly because he's subverting that association. Further thought- Manson and co were a cult. But one could argue that there is an online cult for these dudes I'm mentioning- several of them were certainly MRA participants- and I could see a band playing those images with some song about toxic masculinity or something. I dunno. Food for thought, really. It would be a hell of a line to cross, but there was still a part of me that was kinda grossed out by the song closing out on beauty shots of Sharon Tate. Kid near me said to his friend when the Family members were being listed something like "dude they're so awesome". I know some people who genuinely admire Charles Manson, too. Guess that's what sparked it.

From a hockey point of view they're a wee bit behind, but not horribly so. Honestly, the most creative community is soccer. Holy crap, there are so many passionate artists out there trying so many different things- and I realize that is partly due to the international aspect of that particular sport. I'd say in America, college football is leading the way with new/experimental graphics. Doesn't mean I like a lot of it, but I recognize the innovation and brain storms that are coming out of those organizations. What the Sabres are doing now has been a staple style amongst various college athletics collateral/new media for a few years now. Side note- design's in an interesting place right now. The super flat design/clean/sans serif everything style that got going in about 2011 is starting to go out, and while vintage nods had a moment (lot of 1960s Saul Bass love, then the whole 80s-90s/vaporwave pastel/marble look), there doesn't seem to be a consensus on the new direction. Take that opportunity.

Saw Manson and Rob Zombie last night. Manson actually seemed to have fun- I'm not a fan, but his fans were having a great time and he wasn't as bad as I was expecting him to be. Zombie was a lot of fun- good use of movie screens and giant puppets. My coworker was there and said it's pretty much the same show he's done for a few years now- but it was still good. Manson and Zombie sang Helter Skelter together in front of screens showing snippets from docs about the Manson family. It was neat but I had this kinda weird thought- Manson family had a mystique/cult thing about them, making them unique, but I wonder if hard rock bands in the future are going to show footage of dudes like Dylan Klebold/Eric Harris, the Aurora shooter, etc. ... ? Oh yeah- Zombie called out all the a$$holes on their phones, not that it helped, unfortunately. We were pretty much against the rail in the lawn and I could hardly see for all the idiots filming the damn thing. LIke, are you seriously going to watch that sh!t quality, shaky, crappy vid later? I understand a few pics, some short vids here and there- but just the whole damn thing? Put it down. Fuc*in' A I wish there was a good way to ban doing that at shows.

Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch
josie replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
He's legitimately unsettling to watch sometimes. He's handsome, but he often plays these roles where he just sorta slightly smirks and looks cooly into the distance like some sort of Bundy-esque sociopath. Maybe I'm relating him to some severely weird people I know in real life, but I kind of like his weird inscrutability. -
I follow loads of sports creatives- it just seems a sort of shuffle backwards in comparison to some of the other stuff I'm seeing out there. I do think about it- it's my living. Sorry. Different point of view. I just hope a better team brings exciting stuff in all aspects.

As someone who is the age they're targeting... I am so. so. so. so sick. of that font style. It screams "Pinterest rustic wedding" to me, even though it's not exactly the same font (lullabies, virginia sky, any other brush font, this one's more masculine BUT STILL). A lot of my coworkers love it "it's so fresh" "I love the new direction it's so modern"... but I've seen that "fill the negative space with axioms/text/blah blah" on Chipotle cups for a decade now. I don't know, call me crazy, but I feel like if you're a big ol' expensive sports team with a fat bankroll backing you, you have the power to be an influencer and do something interesting/different/lead the way. This is just fitting in, IMO. At least it's better than all the Blueprint stuff...

I've always been a big Brody fan. The Pianist might be one of my favorite films. Had a huge crush on him back in high school. Speaking of people who have surprising range, I posit good ol' pretty boy Ryan Gosling. I'm not really a Notebook kinda girl, but if you haven't, The Believer is worth a watch. About a neo-Nazi who happens to be born Jewish. Been a long time since I've seen it, but he's surprisingly good at dark roles (Drive, gangster-y movies) and not just mindless fluff. Here, have an olde internety stupidity bout our boy Brody -
I did a bit more digging and here's a ten part series- I believe BBC did it? You can probably find a better version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzf9aHZmCAM As for Carlin- my favorites of his are Wrath of the Khans (Genghis Khan), Punic Nightmares (Romans, Hannibal and the alps... good sh!t), and Ghosts of the Ostfront (world war two, specifically Stalingrad). I don't think any of those are up for free anymore but they're worth ~5 bucks or whatever for hours of pretty good research. He gets a little rambly here and there in theoretical comparisons but still good stuff.

His WWI series is incredible. I mean, I like most of his stuff, but Blueprint for Armageddon is some good sh!t. Not as many as I'd like. The one I always see mentioned is a youtube channel- They are purported to have info on every conceivable angle of the war, as well as weekly coverage, from the time leading up to it all the way through to the end.

At least with the home loan, you and I would be paying into it together. Your car's just you. I don't miss my big monthly lease payment. But I admit it never bothered me when I had it. It was like rent and taxes- has to get paid.

A year or so ago I bought out my lease. You have to adjust your title. So I gathered up all the paperwork/filled out the forms ahead of time, went to the DMV and the guy there treated me like sh!t and told me it was all wrong. His supervisor came over and cleared it up. Fast forward to now- my registration ran out and I go to renew. Info incorrect. Info incorrect. What the hell? Call the DMV and some saint there (yes they exist) finds out they messed up info on my title. Sorts it out. Good to go. The second part to this sh!tburger of a week (besides getting ripped off at the dealership, getting screwed on sending a damn package at the USPS, and finding out I'm NOT eligible for profit share until October after all, but not before asking my bosses as to why I didn't get a check and making myself look like a total a$$.....), well, in my half asleep daze at the dealership Tuesday morning, I went ot renew my registration online on my phone. Everything looked legit. Had to pay $111 to get my registration the next day, I thought, "steep, but that's what I get for being dumb and missing the expiration". Oh. Joy. Find out that I, a supposedly computer savvy millennial, managed to not go on the DMV's site, but one of those evil dupe sites that look and act just like the DMV but instead of ".gov" are, in this case, ".us". Well, fu*k. The info wasn't going through because of the above problem, so although my card was charged, no product has emerged. Wrote them back to cancel the order and refund the card, and called my credit card company just in case to file a dispute. I am in one. Bad. Mood. Mercury in retrograde or some sh!t? I'm over it. This has been A Week.

As usual. I get what they're going for. But wow that doesn't work in reality. Looks like the vaguely team themed patio furniture throw pillows some suburban mom would accidentally spill her cheap rosé on. But on your head. It's not hard to make a hat look good, I swear. If you wanna do a racing stripe design, it works better on a myriad of other apparel/applications, but skid marks down your fans' craniums.. nope.

Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch
josie replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
Yeah. It doesn't sound like much until you realize what you're hearing. Most of that stuff doesn't really get to me, but that one does. Def. take some discretion for yourself. No need to fu*k your brain up. Right? People COMPLETELY forget about the shooting/assassination on a damn runway at the airport... an action movie couldn't make that sh!t up and it really happened, and the flavor-aid mass suicide absolutely overshadows it. Weren't those the ones who were obsessed with the Haley-Bop (or however you spell it)? I feel like I remember seeing a picture as a kid of people all in white, rather conservative outfits with big white shoes all dead in bunk beds or something... -

For sure. And the right puppet master knows which strings to pull. I know a few people who've gotten "suckered" into similar things. Everyone has a soft spot/a price. Some people just need the nudge and reassurance to drop all the things that they feel are holding them back. I totally get it. But it'd have to be like an animal snuggling cult where my existence is to love adorable round fuzzy things 24/7. -
They totally follow you around the room. The way it was set up, my back was to it at my desk. I always felt like, something was waaatchin' meeee

Glad to hear a (semi?) positive review for a change. I've only ever heard "HE SUCKS IT'S A WASTE OF MONEY" or super fangirl "omg he touched my butt in the meet n greet" (this girl's nutso bout him) and no in between. But to the bolded... hell yeah. My favorite part. My fav denizen of the dirt from the Slayer show was this guy we lovingly called Mountain. I mean, there were plenty of skullets and bad neck tattoos and poorly clothed middle aged women, but this guy was like.. 6'8", 400 pounds and just... practically bathing in beer. Just dumping 24's down his gullet, his beard a shimmering moss covered rockwall dripping Bud Light onto the heads of those below... He'd enter the pit and the whole thing would just orbit around his mass. He was wearing brown which made him not unlike a grizzly, wading upstream into a surging river of stringy, drunk long hairs... It was something to see haha

I totally agree with you! Says the girl who lets her boyfriend hang life sized posters of Bruce Smith in the apartment next to her gigantic Mad Max prints. Actually Carter where is the Bruce poster? You haven't tried to terrify me with it in this apartment yet.

Good. Mark says they're really nice and fair, no bullsh!t. And it's certainly convenient! It really is. I'm glad you found someone! I miss just having a warranty and not having to really worry about the money.
