Well, with 3-4 women on this board, you're not really gonna hear a lot from us because we tend to hear that sh!t all the time and have given up saying anything. Gets tiring being called an overreacting humorless b!tch (I don't mean that about here, i mean that about every other goddamn nearly daily instance of this scenario). If dudes wanna stand up to other dudes and police within their own "group" and it creates some positive change, I'm all for it- you're not necessarily white knighting our wilting damsel in distress over acknowledging a stupid comment and suggesting a different course of action. But yeah, I guess comments like that (and ones calling players gay or insinuating they're gay- and it's a bad thing/sign of weakness) annoy and offend me a little bit, but they mostly just let me know the character and lack of creativity of the person saying them. The english language (and all the others, too!) have so many beautiful insults waiting to be used!!! But anyways, back to your regularly scheduled sports discussion!

This is really weird

*Tom Brady runs ten yards* ESPN COMMENTATORS: "oh wow, he's 41 years old, amazing" *Tom Brady throws a pass* ESPN COMMENTATORS: "and at 41 years old, it's just incredible" *Tom Brady sneezes and farts simultaneously* ESPN COMMENTATORS: "My GOD he's SUCH an inspiration, look at these high school photos- did you know he's 41 years old? Can you believe it?"

Is #walkaway a thing?
josie replied to 5th line wingnutt's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
Yeah okay Cuz we're totally out here posting Blue Tribune and Winning Democrats. My cousin posts/reposts loaaads of absolute outrage hobbyist leftist BS. And guess what? It's just a sh!tty as the alt right stuff, although maybe a bit less overtly racist. -
Ugh that sucks. Insult to injury.

If you're going to post stories that are being widely covered, maybe post one from a more middle of the road/less biased source rather than an alleged pro-Russian and alt-right leaning blog (no longer just an international financial blog as it started) full of dodgy pop-ups run by folks who go by the pseudonym "Tyler Durden". Hard to have a calm and thoughtful conversation when the initial submission is already charged. For instance, saying "Kanye West is making an anti-democrat clothing line with slogans such as "Blexit" and "We Free" can spark some convo. Or some eye-rolls, because it's Kanye West. There are multiple news stories that keep it to that, without inflammatory terminology focused on or against either "side". Much more useful in your conversations, if you wish to actually have one. -
Feel like everyone I know and their sister are making kombucha and have been for the last 4-5 years. They're all obsessed with growing SCOBYs and sharing them and I don't know. I admit I like some of it (only the ginger stuff, some of that sh!t gets weird- pineapple pina colada kombucha? get out of here). But most of it isn't super to my tastes. And I have to be careful because it uh... it goes through you. But in small amounts it actually seems to help some of my GI issues. Quinoa though... nope, never could get into it. Like bitter, nasty itty bitty fish roe. Like chia seeds, gets stuck in your teeth. Bleh. sidenote- if i had to go with a good thing that's going snake oil quickly, it's CBD oil. Good, until every essential oil MLM b.s. wannabe company gets ahold of it and overprices crap versions of it as a wonderdrug that cures everything....

Niiice. Back in college I took a course on zoological and botanical illustration- I chose pitcher plants for my final project. Such awesome things. Yours look great!

Oh god. If that had been me in the hood, I'd have hoped his d!ck falls off from frostbite. Saw a guy dump beer all over a family at an OSU game (f*ck OSU, man, I hate that fanbase... I was there because my high school band was playing with the OSU band/stayed for the game). Same guy later barfed all over a woman who'd taken the empty place when the beer soaked family had left. I guess worst thing that's happened to me was the RIT outdoor game a few years ago- it was bloody cold, so I was wearing many warm layers and my Carhartt overalls. I was good. Sometime mid in the third period, the Niagara fans behind us were really riled up with the group taunting them in front of us and they start throwing snow/ice balls. Caught a few in the head, definitely had a few either poorly thrown or intentionally aimed at me- went down my back, bypassing all my warm layers, chilling me to the fu*king bone. And then dark got the world's worst food poisoning that night. Lovely.

Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch
josie replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
Finally saw Free Solo. I loved it. I'm definitely a climbing enthusiast, but if you dig psychology/human extremes at all, you'd like it too. Honnold is one of those people- he's one brain wire short of being a sociopath- they do an MRI on him at one point and find out his amygdala pretty much just doesn't react to anything. so he's like, one tweak away from being someone who grew up to be a serial killer hahah Now I need to see The Dawn Wall- about Tommy Caldwell (and Honnold's close friend in Free Solo). Long story short, he's an incredibly accomplished climber who, with a partner, managed to climb the Dawn Wall in Yosemite- a pretty much blank granite face previously uncompleted. Goes into his backstory a bit- homeboy accidentally cut off a finger with a table saw once- had it reattached- and then took it off again because he liked climbing better without it. And oh yeah, the whole getting held hostage in Kyrgyzstan while mountain climbing and killing a guard thing... -
I want carnivorous plants. Some pitcher plants would be great. Love all those things. We just have no room in this apartment for them- dark's parents are babysitting some my jungle of succulents and hardy flowers in their home through the winter... he puts up with my plants. I'm lucky.

It's hard... to see

I did a quick Dahlin (doesn't even have his number) right around the draft, which is why I'm cool with doing someone else first. But I'm going to paint everyone on that list this year, provided I have the time and the Sabres don't go completely down the sh!tter. Just polling to drum up some interest and pick the first one.

A Florida man is in custody as the alleged "MAGAbomber". He has a van covered in alt-right pro Trump memes, you know the sort- Hillary's head in crosshairs, trump on a tank with fireworks, badges like "native americans for trump". So yeah, all the people screaming false flag are very quiet today. The cries of the "demoncRATS DID IT!" are now replaced with oh, he was a lunatic fringe lone wolf anomaly. Just another super radicalized dude believing in the dumb memes and extremist bullsh!t.

I'm doing a poll on twitter to pick the next painting I do- I'm going to do a current Sabre. Skinner and Pommers have been taking the lead from each other but dark horse dahlin is in second now...

The last time the Sabres were good (enough to be in the playoffs) was 2011- dark and I were just starting to date. I remember sitting in a room full of boxes as I was between apartments and crashing at my friend's place, watching the Vancouver riots with him... I know 7.5 years isn't that long of a time, but when I realize that for the entirety of our relationship, the Sabres have been a downer, it seems like a lot. I'm ready to go to some games this year. I'm not under a spell- we could still fall off a cliff due to injury or godknowswhat, we're not cup bound, we'll be beyond lucky if we squeak in a wildcard playoff bubble race. I don't expect great success (though I wouldn't completely rule out some pleasant surprises). We're going to have some terrible losses- even stretches of awful. The Fire Housley threads will rear their heads every couple of weeks. But I also think we're going to have some fun games, some good wins, and overall a reason to enjoy a beer most nights they're playing.

I want to join you guys but I'm not done with job 2 until 745 ?

I've already seen a lot of more right leaning people claiming it was a false flag operation and fake news/set up conspiracy. All the conspiracy theorists and meme makers have been having a ball with it. It's just very loud on the internet right now. I'm so tired of it all. Yesterday legit made me feel unsettled- I haven't felt that unsettled since Charlottesville. I mean, I've been pretty unsettled since the Tea Party really got going and Palin was a legit option for vice president but... my personal richter scale is kinda out of whack nowadays.

Felt like a good day for folk music. So here's two bands I know personally: Oliver Hazard is from my hometown (Perrysburg, Oliver Hazard Perry is who it's named after). Might do some art for them someday. No clue. And our good friends from Utica, the Old Main. The videos they have out and spotify don't do them justice- if you ever get a chance to see them live, they're fantastic. Really energetic. Nash usually stands on his bass and goes into the audience- they play all kinds of stuff from original to covers.

TREMORS dark legit wants to do a couples costume someday of the Gummers- Reba McEntire and Michael Gross. I just don't think anyone would get it... Need a third person to be a graboid. Maybe if we ever have a kid- swaddle it up as a weird subterranean 90s movie worm..
