  1. I wanted to be a meteorologist for years. Grew up in an area that gets hit with tornadoes constantly, so a concern became an obsession. Now I just nerd out over clouds, weather maps, analysis, and lots of pilot reports. I love the aviation aspect of it, mapping out where turbulence is reported compared to what satellite shows, mapping updrafts and jet stream etc. etc. etc. This had made me very annoying to fly with, I'm sure. Yay weather nerds!
  2. And everything is rainbow, right down to the eye masks in the goodie bags...
  3. A good article by Sean McIndoe (down goes brown) on women's hockey this year. Awesome. Marek and Wyshynski discussed women's hockey on the podcast today, too. It's nice to hear about it. http://grantland.com/the-triangle/run-the-world-lets-all-get-amped-for-u-s-and-canada-womens-hockey/
  4. Ugh. Shudder. Jeeeeez man. Feel better and godspeed to health!
  5. I never understood women. I can't be of help with the unsaid subtext here.
  6. :w00t:
  7. Awwwwww. C'mon, boys. :P Liger... you better not be after mr. d4rksabre.... he's already with sabills. I'm a coverup.
  8. Also, I believe the toilet facilities at Sochi should be referred to as Vladimir's Poo Tins.
  9. She's fun to follow- very into what she does. However, she was super fan girling over Putin the other day and caught a lot of flack for it. I'll overlook her political leanings and stick to her hockey related reports :)
  10. I'm so sorry, man. As a fellow young person who has a lot yet to learn, I can say that breakups are high up there in the "worst things ever to go through" category. I got dumped on April 1st once... and no one believed me until I broke down sobbing. Took a good year or so to get my scheisse together and then this big doofus you all know as d4rk who'd been under my nose for years kinda popped in. Things'll get better. Get busy with life and hang in there :) We're all here for ya.
  11. Firsthand account of Sochi 2 weeks prior by Johnnie Balfour- a snowboard/skicross course builder from Vancouver. This is an edited version because the original was censored/taken down. http://www.reddit.co...would_post_the/ Apparently he has left Russia to return home since. I feel like I saw this link somewhere earlier, but I don't remember if it was here or the facebooks. Apologies if it's a repost. And follow @SochiProblems on twitter.
  12. Snowboarders are withdrawing from competition. A female slammed her head and got carried off in a stretcher. I guess the course is just badly made. I know media loves to make the bad apocalyptic, but geeeeeez. Also, fresh honey! source: https://twitter.com/mattgutmanABC/status/431018506159915008/photo/1
  13. :w00t: Well good for her. I was told my big nose "ruins my chances" by a makeup artist during a photoshoot once. She has that exotic thing going for her, vs being your average white chick. But her and Miller do kinda fit. Both kind of good looking in a way, but I wouldn't say either one is gorgeous. They'll have two kids- one will be drop dead stunning, and the other... quite aesthetically challenged.
  14. Congratulations! :D I'm excited for August now. I'm going to volunteer at a seminar with a lady in Canandaigua who works with mounted police. The seminar is about training horses on an obstacle course. I'll be setting up obstacles, helping participants and their horses, and getting fed/watching the seminar for free. Obstacles include things like a giant beach ball, big plastic drums they have to push through, cavalettis, etc. Hoping to learn more stuff to stick in my brain somewhere. I love behind the scenes type stuff like this.
  15. ok i have work to do.
  16. Henrik Lundqvist is not bringing his family. He hedges around and says it's accommodations and security but you can tell security is his main issue. I can dig up the article if someone wants. It's somewhere up on r/hockey. That is really unfortunate. I thought they were, too, especially with the IOC. I know there may be a lot of issue with Sochi being a subtropical beach resort town (read: warm temps) holding the winter Olympics, despite being near ski resorts in the mountains... I kinda figured the IOC would at least iron out any actual kinks that may interfere with sports/actual record breaking. I know most of what I've read about the amazing tons of corruption is rumor, but I wonder if there were any palms greased or it's just a case of woefully behind construction. I know Athens was very behind in prep for the Summer Olympics and they had it mostly together by opening day.
  17. Actually... "Russian journalist Pavel Lysenkov was given a brief tour of one of the Russian team's rooms, and he uploaded some video footage to YouTube:"
  18. I'd be genuinely terrified. The threat of someone blowing something up is creepy, but I'd be more worried about someone poisoning my food or the hotel just sliding into the sea or something. Construction "accidents"? It's gonna be a bumpy ride. Go USA.
  19. I can speak for VW. My family has been diehard das auto fans for years. We've owned two passats and several jettas over the past decade or so. The 1999 Passat is still going strong. They're pretty reliable cars, but be warned- if something does go wrong, it can take forever to get it fixed because of parts... One time we had a problem and we had to wait weeks until The Tool to fix it could be shipped from Germany. The Passat IS very roomy. Great for long trips and for families. We have the combi (no longer offered I believe) and it was just fantastic for cross country/moving. They are good in the winter, as well. As a 16 year old I drove a RWD mustang and my parents always made me drive the 99 Passat in the winter. Both handle very well in all weather/conditions in my experience. You can tell they're engineered for the autobahn. While in Germany, admittedly, we didn't drive a VW, we stuck to an Audi diesel combi, which was great too. My sister has had a couple of Jettas. I can attest that they survive accidents well- she's gotten into some bad wrecks in them and came out physically unfazed. However, I've lost some faith in VW's newer work- the older models seem to stand the test of time better than the newer ones. We've begun to shift over to Subaru because of my Impreza (my dad got one too, for his constant drive up to Detroit airport in all weather). My mum has a Honda Civic for her round the town errand running- it's good for the money. We've somewhat left the VW family because of the expense/difficulty of getting the damn things fixed if they break.
  20. He's a tease.
