I hope the Jamaican bobsled team stayed out of his way. (hint- look at their helmets from this year)

d4rk and I will be behind Canadian lines this weekend. d4rk will probably get both of us arrested. Tensions are high. This is war.

I just have to check my emotions. I jumped up and shouted during the Sweden v somebody game ( already forgot who... one of dem Europeans... the one with Jagr and the other geriatrics in skates ) and everyone in the office (open floor plan) was like "oh god what happened?" Oh. Uh. Olympic hockey. "Jo, how are you watching that?" Uh... magic. British internet magic. I was met with lots of disinterested, glassy eyed stares after the word "hockey" escaped my lips. Sigh, video gamers. One person asked if it was USA versus Russia and when told no, asked why I cared. I just said I was in love with one of the Swedish players and that seemed to be enough. It's a slow day. So far my boss has appeared to have chosen to ignore my olympic watching activities.

Skating and gymnastics get wayyyy too much coverage imo. You could argue that's to appeal to ladies- the whole ice princess/america's sweetheart thing. But on the other side of the coin, during the summer olympics, other than gymnastics all NBC covers is beach volleyball. Want to watch cycling? Too bad. Track and field other than a Major Superstar competing for a new world record/gold? Nope. Regular volleyball? Good luck. They show the skimpier clothed version spritzed with a golden california tan so every male viewers eyeballs are glued to that screen... and the ads in between. I've been avoiding NBC like the plague and just watching what I want via BBC when it's live. So, lots of ski jumping, skiing and speed skating. oh, and I'm a little tired of NBC seeming to deem an athlete worthy of a story only if they have had something super sad/terrible happen to them and/or their family. Inspiration. Overcoming adversity. Fantastic. But it feels like a bad tabloid. Well, I guess it is.

Going in dry. Bite down on something.

"Trucked by a big guy" is not what I want on my cause of death someday... But yeah, that was... painful. Didn't hurt until a couple hours later (I blame beer for keeping the pain away). Nothin' like getting your head snapped back and hearing *crunch crick craaaack* as it happens. Why won't your sister pop in for adult league? I bet she'd have a ton of fun. The only time I've been met with not so nice attitude about my inexperience on the ice was when I first learned to play hockey (literally had never put the pads on before) in an intramural team at RIT. I almost quit playing, it was tough to deal with. I'm in a beginner league now that's fun. Most teams are excited to have a chick on the team, especially if she's any good :) Although I DID have to change in the locker room with a bunch of gents yesterday, and saw some things I hope to never see again...

Playing a game today with d4rk and others at the outdoor rink in East Aurora. I'm not good at hockey by any stretch of the imagination, delusional or kind, but it's going to be fun to hit the ice with new people, and possibly shoot pucks at d4rk's head.

haha Carter and mine's "song" (I guess if we have one) is Long Cool Woman... I don't know if it's because that's all I ever wore when we started dating or because we both drank too much whiskey...

haha no. Mercifully I think they'll be navy. Unmercifully they're going to be pretty expensive. :( If I ever get married, it'll just be something like blue, which looks good on everyone, and the ladies can pick whatever dress style they want. I don't understand the super uniform look. Of my close friends, two are thin, the others are ... not... and all but one are covered in tattoos. Wear what you want, guys. Very very nice. Which model?

After Trygg had gotten hurt, then knocked over by a ref on his way off the ice. He fell to all fours and couldn't quite make it, so... team work!

You should take a pottery class. Cute girls (often braless because sorta hippy chicks) making mugs are worth a watch... especially when they make a mug handle. You have to keep wetting and pulling that cylinder of clay to make it longer and taper it... Snowboarder dude's dreads spin around his head like tentacles. Then his pants fell down. Apparently he keeps a raw egg in his pocket (cool runnings homage). Well, he scrambled it pretty good on his first run. I bet he's a fan of recent Colorado lawmaking.

haha must be those calves I keep hearing legends about. :P And well, d4rk stands me in the morning with no makeup, birdnest hair and bad breath, so miracles really do exist. But in regards to Howey- The long hair and goatee look is very late night Tennessee backroads gas station attendant who somehow makes your purchase of a pack of gum and a diet coke sexually disturbing. Much more presentable with the shorter hair... but he still has vampire teeth. Part werewolf? I know all the ladies are into half mythological dudes these days...

Not my type at all. I could describe what he looks like to me, but I don't want to be rude since your wife fancies him.

Inklings, as opposed to ink splats... Also, I had to google who those people are. Oops.

Absolutely. She's definitely an 11 on the "focused on the wedding, not the marriage" scale. I figure this one will be fun and practice for wedding number 2 sometime in the future. Ah, not nice of me, but true. Poor d4rk, being dragged to the wilds of Ohio twice this fall for wedding fiascos...

Officially a bridesmaid in a very close friend's wedding. It'll be the first one I've been in. I'm a bit nervous, but excited to get all dolled up. Her wedding date has also changed to the day before my birthday in September. So, multiple reasons to hit the champagne a little harder ;) I'm just excited to help out and make her smile. As a friend, I'be been vocally skeptical of what she's doing (she set it up and bought a dress before even getting the ring on her finger, groom isn't exactly the most faithful dude, etc), but it's time to put away the worry and just be positive as possible. It'll be a fun night.

Oh man, hyperextends his knee, is making way off ice... ref KNOCKS HIM OVER, is crawling on all fours, and then his teammate pushes him on the bum to the door. I hope he's ok... but seriously ref, you knock him over and still don't blow the whistle?!

Aw man, Shrader, I'm sorry. My father is beginning to show signs of something along these lines as well. He's relatively young, 69 years old, but every time I see him, which is 3 or so times a year now, he slips a notch. It's a strange haunting feeling for me. I remember his mother slipping, too, until she had zero clue who I or my dad were and thought her late husband was going to come pick her up in the Studebaker from ice skating any minute. I don't know what is wrong with my dad, and I haven't really got a way of asking as he's loudly convinced that all is well. He still travels around the world for work on a regular basis and plans to do so for the foreseeable future. He can't remember what I told him in the morning, he can't hear or see well, and his driving is abysmal, but he can still give me the most exact description of any historical event or draw you a perfect engineer's drawing of any vehicle, plane or boat ever made- just ask at random. No real complaints for me this week, I s'pose. Just the usual stress and worrying over nothing!

If I hear an announcer scream some variation of "oh man, he's so outta gas!" one more time I may jump through a window.

Aw crap. He said it, not me...

I gotta find a person to go with me who's willing to fuddle around on the baby slopes with me until I figure it out. And yeah, money was the part of the reason I never went, either. My parents saw sports as the devil and taking me away from studies and music, which is where our money went. Plus, it was a pretty big deal to drive to the nearest mountain- it'd have to be a weekend trip at least.

I've been sledding a very small number of times and have yet to strap one or two boards to my feet and go hurtling down a hill, which is a damn shame. I was hoping to change that this winter, but it hasn't worked out so far. Damn my being born in a place where the tallest thing for 150 miles is a water tower...

Derp. That be the lack of sleep typin', thar. The BBC color guy just referred to the puck as a "dead quail" and earned a wtf response from the other commentator... It's been an odd time. Aaaand Jagr makes it 4-2.... He's been quite the strength of the Czech team, all scoring considered.
