haha I wasn't aware there were aerial elements in 50 Shades. I've never read/seen it. I have some friends with very heavy opinions about it, but that's the extent of my knowledge. But aerial hoops is a lot of fun. Martial arts and cossack riding all came back to me and helped a lot. Makes you feel all graceful, even if you're not! An advanced class was in there doing aerial silks and other circus trapeze things and i just wanted to paint them all. Absolutely fascinating to watch. Very glad I'm giving this a shot.

Scored my second goal Sunday night, and the greenest guy in the group also got a goal. He is still learning how to skate, and largely operates as a pylon on the ice, but he got a rebound and both teams were stomping and screaming for him. It was really cool. Always finding new and interesting ways to hurt myself, I'm going to start an aerial hoops class tonight. Think circus, hanging from a ceiling on a trapeze type thing. Pretty excited.

The cold doesn't bug me too much. The wind can eff off, though. I miss looking nice/feminine, since I'm always blanketed under 8 layers of clothing. It was -4 when I woke up in West Henrietta this morning, feeling like -26. Saturday I was out working on a broken fence at the barn (near Lima, NY) and noticed the horizon getting hazy. Since you can see for miles out there (cue Roger Daltrey), I estimated we had about 20 minutes before the weather hit us. Checked my phone/set an alarm. Kept fiddling with the fence in bare hands (wasn't too cold, about 18 degrees and no wind). My phone beeps 15 minutes later, just as the wind picks up and freezes my hands up, instantly (-15 windchill). I barely finish what I'm doing, get my gloves on, and start up the hill when a whiteout hit. It was really awesome. All sound was gone, just snow. Lots and lots of snow. I stopped to take it in for a minute. I never mind the cold at the barn- baselayers, multiple sweatshirts, full carhartts/carhartt vest/carhartt coat all ward off chill pretty nicely (at least until my gloves freeze). I had to go out in it later and wade through the thigh deep drifts to move a couple horses. They love it. Cold weather makes them all super excited/playful/kind of tough to handle. Hence the broken fences. Just a "hey winter's still pretty awesome" post I guess. Beats sweating and chafing.

We're getting a staircase in the middle of the open plan office up to our newly purchased second floor. Awesome. But it's getting installed tomorrow while we work. We've endured a lot of construction during working hours- it's impossible to get done when it's going. So tomorrow, with a high of 7 or whatever, we'll have the doors wide open and a stairway being built next to our desks- boss says "stuff may be falling, so be aware". Someone asked if we could just take a vacation day or work from home, or if they could reschedule it to a Saturday (as originally promised). "No, you guys need to be productive. It'll be fine. Just wear a jacket." Love that windchill warning that'll be blowing in on me (I'm 10 feet from the big glass double doors). Like, I get it, but... really? You expect productivity with drills and teams of construction workers knocking into our desks and yelling to each other? He's shoved our desks together for the installation so that most of us cannot move/walk through the office easily. And what will he do? Probably go to his favorite expensive cafe or bar across the street to wait it out. Or come in late enough to just see the end of it. Effin' a, man.

I was doing ok with my two team love affair until my old home team moved east into the same division. I'm a pretty recent hockey fan, but had always followed Detroit as a kid. It was unavoidable. I have a Red Wings logo on my car- it's a piece of home to me. d4rk really introduced me to the game, and his passion for the Sabres, and given the knowledge/experience he shared with me about the team and its history, I think that I actually tip the scales towards Sabres fan. That and being on here- I'm not on a Wings board. I care about more of the Buffalo players. It's been manageable, I pay attention to the awful year we've been having here- I find it fascinating, watch old Sabres games on NHL gamecenter, and I watch my two loves Zetterberg and Datsyuk make a run at 24 years in the playoffs. I'm going to have to sit in a padded room and cry a lot when both teams are really good and playing each other for the top. I feel like a traitor to both teams. I know I'll never fully belong here- I'm not from here- and I'm reminded of it often. I don't fit in with the Detroit crowd anymore, either. Detroit has enough Cups. I'll back the Wings (and Zetterberg) to get another one until Buffalo's ready and in the playoffs. But I won't give up watching this team/every move the GM makes in the meantime.

I played a lot when I was a kid and really haven't played games since, despite making them for a living. I was never a super serious gamer- my sister (6 years my senior) has been a super hardcore gamer her entire life- to the point she wasted 4 years of her twenties playing WoW nonstop and nearly going on welfare. I think I avoided getting too into games from watching her. My favorites were and are (remember, I was like... 10) Final Fantasy VII Chrono Trigger New Horizons (snes) Streets of Rage Golden Axe ( on sega genesis) Spyro the Dragon (I was a kid, cut me some slack) Crash Bandicoot Castlevania Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Pokemon Red Ecco the Dolphin! Yeah! JetMoto lots of flight simulators- I would literally take a Saturday and do some super longhaul 14 hour flight and set the weather to awful and just do that alllll day. I wanted to be a pilot so badly. Now it's just playing mariokart and smash with friends on the Wii. I just don't have the time/money to play these days.

I've been on an aviation kick lately. Not uncommon for me, but if anyone shares that interest here, I found a PDF of Sled Driver: Flying the World's Fastest Jet by Brian Shul, a former SR-71 pilot. The book was printed limited edition, which means you can't buy it for less than like... 300 bucks. https://mega.co.nz/#!hYoTEb6T!eDfAUy3KTxroV1JtzX8s7nIP1Z04o0s61iPM7MyViMo So, after fancy beers and a long rant session with my friend from work, I'm looking forward to cozying up and reading this. Anecdotes and stories (not too technical, just very fireside chat-y) from his time flying the blackbird.

I guess the lightheartedness that would've been heard in my tone of voice had this been an in-person convo is lost on the internet. Wasn't attacking you!

It worries me how often this implication is made relevant by you.

It sees you when you're sleeping, it knows when you're awake, it knows when you're being bad on top of it so be uh... good to it and clean up the wet spots, aight?

haha I hadn't seen those yet. I had zero clue I'd have any pictures taken of me that day, hence the hoodie and bad hair day... I was wearing my Toledo, Ohio shirt and red wings hoodie and after I realized it was me, I quickly zipped up the hoodie to hide the Toledo-ness of my shirt... Of all the days to get a Rochester themed award... Going to the station to record the bit about the rescue this morning at 1015. No idea when it's airing, or if it's live. I'm dressed a lot better today....

Not really a complaint as much as amusing. The classroom/lab I'm teaching in this semester is pretty small. Just enough seats for my class (20). Came in early last night to set up a demo to find a large group of students (not mine) hanging out around one of the computers blasting NSFW videos and generally just chilling. I let them be until about 10 minutes before class, informed them about the class being in there at 6. 2 of them left, leaving a good 8 or so still there. 5 before class, all of my students are in the room, standing there staring at them because there's nowhere to sit. I tell them to leave, a little sterner this time. All but one chick goes. This girl (a Pittsburgh Penguins fan, judging from her team logo hat, but I digress) has her crap spread out over 3 desks and just keeps eating (not supposed to in a lab) and glaring at me. "Excuse me, are you in digital illustration one and weren't here Monday?" "What, are you like, a professor or something?" "Yes. This is my class. If you're not enrolled, I need you to leave." "You. You're actually a professor. This is an open lab." "Yes I am, and only when there's no class. There aren't enough seats for-" "Fine. Geez. I'm going." *rolls eyes and sighs* I started calling roll and she realized that yes, I actually am a professor, in which she finally sped up her crap gathering and half ran out of there. Sometimes being indistinguishable from my students is kinda funny (the look on the other kids' faces when they realized I'd been watching them watch porn, basically), sometimes it's a pain in the ass.

Her ensemble for the cultural costume was incredible to me, as well. Compared to the humor of Canada and the feathers of everyone from central/South America, she really stood out in her mourning dress and crown of black thorns. Quite a stunning lady.

:w00t: The likeness is eerie.

:w00t: Did not think of that. Awesome. Or maybe... Yeah, it's easy to forget Zadorov is 19. 19!!! I have students his age. They're kids.

haha Taro you're too sweet. :P I still have work backed up that I just haven't gotten to. My goal is to someday be able to quit one of my jobs and focus on portraits. Dream job is still to just do illustrations of entire team rosters, like in the old days buuut.... don't think I know the right people to put the grease on that dream's wheels. ...and I may not be that barely legal Federova chick you're all thirsting over in the Zadorov thread, but d4rk puts up with me somehow.

Ew. Ain't no kinky whips 'round our place.

We were told there was a company meeting that was mandatory today at noon. We all figured we were getting some big news about work. Well, we're standing there, the boss is just repeating things that were already common knowledge, when one of the local radio stations (98.9 the buzz) busts in with balloons and cameras and pizza. What the heck... Then they start talking about their ROC star of the week award, and how this girl was nominated for working so hard on weekends and her love for animals and then they're all staring at me and just whaaat I'm not good at surprises- I'm the girl that shrinks into a ball when you try to get waiters to sing happy birthday to me. And of course I was dressed like I'd rolled out of bed. But wow, it was a really cool, awesome thing for my coworker to nominate me/get a free lunch for all my coworkers. I don't listen to the radio much/let alone this show, but they were very kind and are going to have me on next week to talk about/promote the rescue. The experience was really awesome and all, but I'm most excited about getting the word out about the barn. After my co-volunteers heart attack and all, this is just a really cool turn of luck. oh, and normal hockey's back tonight!

D'AWWWWWWW but good for you, 11!

Yes. My father travels all over the place, and for some reason, we've had a really bad time with our cards being compromised. My mum usually gets a call for it now, but as such we've learned to be hypervigilant with balances/expense reports/receipts. Mine's been compromised twice by trying to buy wedding gifts for friends on their registry online through Bed Bath & Beyond. Just don't do it. i've had it frozen by the card company when trying to buy a desktop computer, too, as it was seen as a high ticket item/not a typical purchase. Because of this, I always have a backup card. Crap happens way too often. Good luck with it, 11.

Nice nod to Lamarr. Jemison Pryde. Curie Cheetara. ( oh man, maybe this is also a great "what's your stripper name?" generator)
