Yeah, these weren't his strongest. Some of the past ones were better in my opinion, even if his pronunciations were way off sometimes: 2014: http://youtu.be/SEI9Mt5la_k 2013: https://youtu.be/RrjprqGJWwM EDIT: Goddangit you'd think after a couple years on this board I'd remember how to embed ##### video Tried deleting the s, tried posting the shortlink sans s, tried with s, tried full address, yeah I effing give up.

If you come play hockey with me Sunday night, sure!!!

That would be great. I will thank you with cookies. I plan on baking a few batches this weekend.

But really guys, thanks for all the input. I've been a quiet lurker this season around these parts. I hope it eases up and I can do more hockey related stuff again. I've got a laundry list of stuff I want to do that's been on the back burner for awhile. That and someday learning how to airbrush.

That's a good point. I try to give some of my overflow work that isn't quite my thing to other artists I know. Spread the love.

Art people! We're great, ain't we.

Haha d4rk in dick mode is a mode I try to avoid when possible... Even moreso if it's on my behalf. I have written up contracts before, but usually only with legit companies/clients. I'm still in that weird limbo of "what the heck do I charge". I always end up caving and charging friends less because I don't want to offend them for charging what I feel is a lot of money. I charge lower because I'm terrified someone will tell me I'm not worth it if I ask for more. I'm terrified of having to go after someone legally. Even though I've been out of college for a few years, I still feel like an amateur fragile ego kid, not the industry hardened consummate professional I should be. It's a tough line to walk for art. Especially since I do so many different styles, it's hard to nail down a quantitative assessment. I know I'm doing something wrong, because the ones who DO pay me, often end up giving me more money than I asked for. I am not a business minded woman. The stress of it all keeps me up at night.

I need a backbone. Or an agent. They're usually friends. I can't turn down friends. And then because they're friends, I never get paid. I get paid in compliments. But those aren't paying the rent.

I have been blessed with mostly good clients over the year when it come to my freelance. Unfortunately, because I earned a reputation as being a quick turnaround artist back when I was working just one job, I'm getting clients who expect speed and perfection for no money. (seriously, I ended up working for free last week) This guy wants a logo. I'm not really a graphic designer, but took the job since it was for a friend, and this client is her boss. "I don't really know what I want but X (my friend) told me you work super fast so have this all done and wrapped up by beginning of next week and made into business cards for me." No, man, no. Just no. I'm not a goddamn machine. I am working 30-40 hours freelance (multiple projects at once, not just this one), 40+ hours full time job, and teaching. I need to break this reputation, it is killing me. Oh, and my boss is on ANOTHER vacation. On the beach. His fourth weeklong plus vacation since the beginning of the year. I took two vacation days last week, felt guilty, and ended up just working all one of them when my washer exploded anyways. We still don't technically have vacation days. Thank god the weather is nice today or I really think I'd go play in traffic.

I know it will get cold again soon. But it is warm today, I am wearing a sundress, heels, and my legs are bare. That's awesome. It feels awesome. It does wonders to melt away stress, no sleep, and depression. Soon, this will feel chilly. Come on, warm! You can do it!

I wonder what the studies would show about goalie helmets. I mean, it's typically a different kind of blow- a puck hitting you in the head at a potential 108 mph in pro level as opposed to a high speed crash into the boards. The evolution of goalie masks and helmets certainly is a fascinating one, with early pretzel masks and such earning appearance based derision from fan and player alike. But yeah, hockey is more image oriented than a lot of other team sports out there. Tinted visors, anyone?
-
Wow. I'm sure the CTE people will take some interest in this. Hits in hockey are fast/different when compared to football. A whole different animal. I'm going to stay tuned to this one. Good to see my helmet at least has one star! d4rk would never have let me buy it/wear it if he hadn't believed it was the safest out there. I got a helluva concussion a couple months ago, but I guess everyone just says, "imagine if you hadn't been wearing it or had a cheapo one on". Turns out the cheapo one might've been better according to these studies!

I hate change almost as much as I hate stagnation. And I hate those things less than I hate not knowing.

haha awesome. Yeah, I'm sure it's different for devs over designers. My friend was in San Fran for GDC and went to her friend's apartment... he's a 24 year old software engineer and lives in a penthouse. They toured some of the big gaming companies out there... And now our bosses are talking about relocating out there... just them... because they are "sick of the weather" and want to be "in a trendier city for fun" and live a little higher. I make less than four apple watches a year after four years at a successful company and they want to winter in Cali. Bah. The trouble with working at a AAA company is... you make the money, but your life is spent on that computer working. I guess I'm lucky to have a life outside of work. I'm becoming an amateur aerialist (as in trapezes) in addition to hockey player! My complaint- so many all nighters. Burning the candle at both ends. Making lots of little mistakes on different things as a result. Holy depression. Haven't even been lurking here much. Wasn't going to post until I saw the reply post. Sorry for kvetching. It's all I ever do anymore.

Old Harrison looks just like my dad. Never mind the fact that my dad has always worn leather bomber jackets, leather trench coats and fedoras. Not in a creepy RIT student way, somehow the guy always pulled it off. I think he's always been a closet Indiana Jones fan boy... But anyways, had a bizarre dream of my dad piloting a jet liner and crashing last night. There were no snakes on the plane.

My boss has been sending us pictures of him on the beach again. At least this time he's there with a couple of my coworkers for GDC but still... Really got my hackles up. The man is on the beach endlessly and I haven't taken a vacation in years. Because he makes us feel guilty for taking vacation days. Which we don't have anyways. But on a happier note- the mercury looks like it'll be rising a bit in the coming week! Upper 40s, baby! Time to break out the sundresses!

One day of warmish (40 is downright hot) weather and my students became a different class. I left class Monday night sad- I just couldn't seem to get through to them or elicit any sort of enthusiastic response. They're all depressed and stressed and give less than a flying feck about art. No connection whatsoever. Yesterday though... everyone had done their assignments (even the girl I had complained about last Thursday! It's a miracle!!!!), everyone was upbeat, and ideas and jokes were flying around the room and it was WONDERFUL. 4 of my students from last class came to visit me, too. One of them had a horrible fall semester- sickness and deaths in the family. She looked so much healthier and happier and said her life is going so much better. I about cried I was so happy to hear it. Problem student also was in an intro to illustration for high schoolers class I taught a couple years ago. She said that I made her want to become an illustrator. I don't remember her in that class, but it might explain why she's acted so strange with me. The rest of my kids know me from my reputation in an art themed dorm I used to live in. Apparently I'm seen as some kind of legend there for starting traditions/inspiring people. Funny, I never felt that appreciated when I was there... Spring is coming...

I'm sorry Bio. I hope something better comes along soon, or at least some viable answers! Our office flooded Monday. Someone busted a sprinkler in a different part of our building and soon, water was everywhere. We saved all important electronics and managed to reach the bosses who were delayed in Chicago on their way to GDC in San Fran. They brought in dozens of massive industrial fans to dry us out and it was like working in a jet engine testing facility (the office is open plan and cement floored so the echoing... oh the echoing). But honestly, it's been a huge blessing in disguise for me- I've been working from home since one day in that environment elicited a migraine from hell. The bosses are gone, half the office is at PAX, I don't have a huge to-do list at work, so I've been staying home and chipping away at the freelance mountain (most I've ever had, which is good, but stressful). Weird week. 2 more people are quitting. One of them is very mad and threatening to send a (rather immature, in my opinion) email around that just lets the management have it. That makes 5 in the last 2 months. All important people, too. I'm beginning to look around a bit more than I was.... ice maintenance guy at Thomas Creek has offered to teach me to drive the zamboni and work there! So yeah, who knows... I'm definitely getting worried.

So my office flooded yesterday (broken sprinkler in other part of building) and now we're enduring about a dozen industrial grade fans echoing around our cement surroundings. But I found this and it's making life bearable. http://hockeyplayerswithpets.com/
