It's just one of those days, where you stand up straight, crack your back, breathe in the spring air and go, "why the F*** am I dealing with all of this BULLS****?" Good luck, y'all.

Thanks guys! Unfortunately I just had a call with the new client and they thought I lived in NYC and didn't have a full time job. Given the size of the project/timeline, they were hoping to have me in office quite a bit. So now it looks rather doubtful that I would be able to do the work for it after all. But hey, it's not totally shot down yet, and they asked me in the first place- which is pretty cool. Man. Makes you think... Boss just put up a paper today about an incoming visa employee whose starting salary was stated... it's the same as mine, after 4 years.... :(

Yellow. Which is why, when New York started switching to the new black and yellow design, I truly believed that most of the drivers I encountered were prior DUI offenders. Can't wait to drive my yellow plated NY car into my hometown at some point and hear about the gossip fire that follows.... Awesome: I think I may have landed the biggest freelance job of my career thus far. Let's just say it's for a massive company that everyone knows and uses. Looks like a tall order and I'm hoping I have the time to do it. It would be a massive portfolio piece if so.

Hah! But yeah, trust me, this one echoes in my head all night as I scroll through facebook and see my friends making money and buying houses and just kicking life's ass.... And hey, trapeze is awesome! Pretty cool office to have :P -
Aw I'm so sorry :( 18 is a long time for a kitty. Sounds like she had a lovely, long life, though. Godspeed.

Video game designer/animator (nickelodeon, disney, nintendo), adjunct professor, and freelancer for illustration. Currently scaling back the freelance... Been pulling too many all nighters for not enough money. Amateur klutzy wannabe acrobat going to run away to join the circus soon. Seems like a good career option. -
Oh my god the amiibos. When those came out I was like "Nintendo you diabolical geniuses..." I've seen grown men fight over different editions of freakin' Kirby or whatever. The demographic paying all the money on games now is the same demographic that was all about collecting Pokemon cards and such. Easy easy evil money. I will say the designs are super cool. I use them as reference for games a lot.

I hear ya. I have pretty much no interest in gaming. To get into it I'd have to spend quite a bit of money, and I do not have the freetime to enjoy it without feeling guilty anyways. There's cool stuff coming out, but I just watch a playthrough someone posts.

Yep yep yep. Same exact thing. I feel it's just kind of par for the course most places anymore. We keep expecting these interns to somehow have the experience that comes with doing this specific work for a long time, and it's killing them. I feel awful for them. We're going to drop something big soon, and it's going to hurt us. Badly.

Actually... some of the people here have been posting that... it's been a bit awkward haha I in no way expect that to ever be a norm or even a solid idea for any company. But it sure is a nice thought!

:P I'm actually surprised d i c k s is caught in the filter. not that you would want to get that caught in a filter....

I know, it just makes me mad. Not a fan of being waved around. Hence the complaint in the complaint thread. Yeah, that's how I feel too. I've done a lot of personal risk analysis with things lately, and it can't really hurt me personally too much either way. I'll keep riding it out and hoping for better. If it fails, it wasn't my fault, and my resume still looks great. Morale's pretty damn low around here... this latest small (admittedly justifiable) thing just really rubbed everyone the wrong way... again.

Yeah, it's just principles to me at this point. He makes such a show of his wealth all the time, pays us less than standard, and then does infuriating small things like this. Uses company money on lots of things. Lotta rumours. A small place like this won't last long if half of them are true. Oh well, probably happens everywhere all the time.

Aw Bio I'm sorry. Best of luck with it. Not knowing is the worst :( :( :( My kvetch is stupid and grumpy but not really serious. We're a gaming company. Most of the employees are gamers. Using company money, we bought several games to play on downtime/lunch breaks. Coworker was looking for one of the games, sent out an email asking as to its whereabouts. Our super wealthy rolling in it multiple vacations a year while we have no technical vacation days boss took it home for his kid. "Oh I can't give it back now, he thinks it's his!" I know it's just a 70 dollar game. I know our company money is basically yours anyways. But come on man. Principles. Buy your kid his own copy. He's making a show of trying to find a discounted one for the office now. "maybe i can find us a cheaper version!" No. Of course, this is the same guy who has lost lots of employees recently and has found us more projects... and we are all working overtime and weekends (salary so it's all for naught) and can't keep up. "We can't take on any more work unless we hire some experienced people" -CTO "hahaha oh well, find a way, you always do! I've got 3 more big projects due end of summer, better find it quick! Also I'm going on a roadtrip next week so call me if you have to." - Boss Fine if we're a big company. But there's like.... 35 of us. The CTO is in the trenches with us. Half of those 35 are student interns.

He got banned. No cops involved. He'd been spoiling for a fight all session. I mean seriously, who the hell drops their gloves in a beginner league? I tried to help pull him off the first person he went after, but I'm afraid I was like a gnat trying to stop an enraged 280 pound human rhino. All his buddies were fired up the rest of the night. One of them, on my line, kept hacking and slashing at people trying to get another one going. I ended up pretty much playing keep away from my own teammates so they wouldn't have a reason to shove people around. It's hilarious in retrospect.

I've got something awesome to share. I've been playing a beginners league at thomas creek in Fairport for awhile. This will be my last session as beginner- I'll be moving up as soon as my schedule allows. And while that's cool, the awesome part is this: This Spring session has 17 women in it. We outnumber the men. In the past, it's been a max of 6 ladies, with only myself and one other on my team. 17!!!!! All from different leagues in the area, all ages, some brand new, others have played more. We have to have 2 whole locker rooms!!! We all came to the consensus that most of us would have started playing earlier if we'd known how to get into entry level leagues. There's pressure in being new and joining an all men's beer league or low level team. You stick out. It's kind of tough to overcome. Women DO want to play hockey. I know the vast majority of the posters here are totally on board with that, but I feel it's something largely ignored by most hockey fans. Really looking forward to knowing some more hockey girls around here. Last session had some very high ego, nasty dudes in it who ended up brawling/punching the ref Sunday night. This'll be a niiiiice change of pace :)

I was taking a picture on my phone at my aerials class last night when the text came through from my mom: "We've got a tornado". It touched down 5 minutes from my house and luckily didn't do much damage, being fairly weak (unlike the monsters that stomped Illinois). Dumped golfball size hail. What's awesome though, besides the fact that no one got hurt/my house is still standing, is that one of my friends proceeded to take the hailstones and make cocktails with them as he settled in to watch hockey for the night. I do not miss living there.

I didn't have one for a few years and everyone insinuated it was because I was a dirty hipster. Well, no, I was a clean, well showered, exfoliated hipster that had a computer with all the Netflix any self respecting hipster could binge upon. But really, we have a TV now, and it's never on unless d4rk is home when we go on an x-files binge or want to catch college hockey. And cave paintings are the ######. Since I'm rambling, today is awesome because I start static trapeze and advanced aerial hoops tonight. I'm excited. The trapeze is a lot bouncier than I expected, and takes a lot more strength than hoop. I think I'll be learning doubles, too, where you work with another person/hang off of them as well. They say to do things that your 6 year old self would be proud of. 6 year old me, terrified of even climbing trees, would be pretty jazzed about 25 year old me playing hockey and learning circus arts.

Saw Matt & Kim in Columbus Ohio once. They were absolutely wild. I didn't expect it. They opened for Spoon, and by the time Spoon came on, everyone was partied out and just wanted more Matt & Kim! So so so so so much energy. It was about 6 years ago, but it remains one of the most fun concerts I've been to.
