I can't agree with underlined. He (Leo) has shown me very little during the bulk of his time here. I would say his SHORT time of looking semi-decent! He is a friggin 10 yr vet. Meyers is still a man child. Yea, I need more from Meyers, but I'm not willing to quit on him yet.

I get that. I'm in the Buffalo area, so a lot of the talking up was what we hear in the media. The Sabres always said he was young. I can't believe they still don't think pretty highly of him. They have certainly given guys ample time to develop in the past. That's easier at the AHL level.

He's a kid in his second year of AHL play and we had abundance of D we couldn't send down. I think it was partly a numbers game. I'd rather not rush him. That is likely a big part of Meyers inconsistency. Even though it seems guys are NHL ready sooner than they used to be based on age, defensemen still take longer to deveop than forwards.

Play the man not the puck is pretty basic to good defense in those situations. I'd bet if he was coaching kids, that's what he'd tell them. :rolleyes:

He's a 10 year veteran. If he still has to learn to play the man and not the puck at such times, what's he doing here?

I haven't liked DR for about five years and wanted him to move on. But the facts come from the players and their agents who have a vested interest in making the player look good. I don't believe much of what I read in the media these days.

He should be the dominant defensemen of the pairing for what we are paying him. HIs partner shouldn't have to cover for him.

What has Ennis proved as a center and the lightest player in the league? I love Ennis, his skating and playmaking. But you have to be drinking the purple stuff to think he is a 1/2 in today's NHL. I really hope I am wrong. Ennis for a number one? You'd have to find an idiot as a GM. As for the Sabres, why would I want a number two from another team to be their number one? We have been doing this for years. Neither of our much beloved Briere and Drury were number ones when they left here. They were here during the NHL version of the time warp, when size didn't matter and obstruction was called. In the last 20 years, I've seen obstruction called as an interference penalty for about 18 months. Ironically, that was the last time I saw this team advance since #39 carried their a** since the late 90"s.

Doesn't love undersized skill guys, but got lucky post lock-out number one when rules changed. Lindy has always had a whipping boy, and they are never Canadian. Sabres only began drafting physical forwards so not much experience in developing them. Darcy was out of touch which ties into above until recently. Yea, and to last 6 years. Same Sh*t, different year. LR/DR need to move on, but TP tells us they are the best. Beginning to be like the Bills.

Not to put this thread down. But to be literal, "worst call ever" dates back to th 70's when we discuss Rick. How many on here were born and saw/heard his entire Sabres career. I was 14 when Sabres played their first game. I understand this wasn't meant literally, but really, who cares about goal calls? And while other teams morphed to bigger and stronger to adapt to the return to imeping players, we lived in 2006-2007 dream world. Now Darcy is trying to play catch-up and they get guys like Scott to try to plug a huge hole created by mismanagemet.. That's what people saw in Kassian. I didn't need him to be a goon, I needed him to be Foligno, a big guy with some skill who could win down low and establish position in front of the net. I want more than one of this kind of player. Unfortunately, we needed a center desperately. And , as stated , you don't get quality for shite. We've changed the type of player we draft in the last couple of years, but you don't change the entire organization overnight.

Exactly, we needed help down the middle and you weren't getting anything good for garbage, contrary to trades we propose at times on this board. In a way, Kassian doing well speaks more highly of Hodgson. As I've said earlier, I hope both do well.
