Bagboy - how do you feel about your NFL team's name?

The defense hasn't been much of a problem but the pressure issue is a big deal right now... Marcell's comments about wondering how he would fit the scheme seem like they were all too real before we even knew it. Hughes (1), Mario (2), Dareus (1) and Kyle (1) have combined for five sacks in the first six games this year. Last year it took them three weeks to accomplish that. They had six in week five alone last year. Through six weeks last year they combined for 14.5 sacks (Hughes (4), Marcell (5), Mario (4.5) and Kyle (1)). That's an issue.

I've been trying to be as optimistic as possible with this team but man is it tough. I only got to watch the first half today, but I have seen and read enough to know that this team is too bogged down by the constantly terrible moves this franchise makes that good franchises simply aren't making anymore. Let's list the ones in the last two offseasons alone: - Putting stock in the running back position by trading for one when you had a few - Putting MORE stock in the position by throwing a ton of cash his way - Trading two firsts for a WR when you don't have a quarterback - Having two kickers for a prolonged period of time - The handling of the QB situation - sign Cassel, cut Cassel, sign Cassel... trade Cassel - The Bryce Brown for Stevie Johnson trade (essentially) - Almost entirely ignoring the offensive line and hoping scraps and mid-rounders would do the job Then there's the way they handled the kicker situation these last few weeks. Making the change in return specialists was the very definition of making a move just to make a move. Sigh. It's an endless cycle. If they don't break it and make a run to the playoffs here (which is still a very real possibility) then I want to see a major shakeup. Put some focus on locking up your own guys then make a REAL move for a QB and offensive line. (Yes, I know I defended the running back move... I just wanted to be optimistic about a move but my denial has come to an end).

And that, my fellow posters, is why we have and love hybrid icing.
-
Sammy has been telling people he hates playing at RWS because of the turf. Said almost the entire team feels the same way... That injury isn't going to help alleviate their concerns.
-
They cut Cundiff. They need to find a full-time kicker that can do kickoffs... Or a punter.

So far EJ is what we thought he was.

Went to AMC in Amherst last night for the first time. A theatre with recliners!? Sign me up. Saw Crimson Peak and man was it a treat. It's not going to be for everybody, but if you don't like it you can at least take solace in the fact that the first half of the movie is based in Buffalo 1901. If you look on the table early in the movie you'll see an architectural model of the gold dome building (now an M&T bank) which was built in 1901. It takes patience but satisfies your mind with brilliant sets and colors the whole way.

There is no excuse for the Panthers. Their attendance (actual attendance, not the numbers you'll see posted) is all-time bad. Men's league bad. Hyperbole bad.
-
Correct. Nobody thinks otherwise.
-
Yea, I'm still taking this whole season as an opportunity to relax and watch some actual talent. If they stumble their way into the playoff hunt late in the year I'll start to care about the wins and losses.
-
Evander Kane hat trick alert.
-
He would have to clear waivers. He's their healthy scratch for most games.
-
There's no doubt in anybody's mind that the Panthers SHOULD move, right?
-
:D it does seem insane, doesn't it?

Is it possible that Samson Reinhart is named after Jaromir Jagr's mullet? His mullet is nicknamed Samson and was a trademark throughout the 90s while http://www2.tsn.ca/bardown/Story.aspx?Jaromir%2BJagr%2Bcut%2Bhis%2Bmullet%252c%2Bnamed%2BSamson%252c%2Bafter%2Bthe%2B1998%252f99%2Bseason%2Bfor%2Bhis%2Bthen%2Bgirlfriend&id=563145 Sam's father Paul never played with Jagr. He was leaving the league as Jaromir was going in, so they likely didn't have a close connection... But that would be a funny story.

I think that'll be a bonus and not by design, but I agree. I see this team finishing in the bottom seven or so in the league (picked them for 8th in the preseason but only because I didn't want to go against them). This should be a deep draft so that's good news for us.

Tanking isn't about the first overall pick. There's more risk and less chance of a high reward in tanking, but I don't believe this will kill tanking completely. I don't see teams doing it exactly as we did the last two seasons, but you will see teams selling off pieces as the season goes on if they're slipping in the standings. Regardless of the way the lottery is losing still increases your chances at potential franchise-changer Auston Matthews. I agree that there is less of a chance, but I don't think it's suddenly a bad idea. If you tank you get a higher pick regardless of whether it's first or fourth. With that said - I obviously am not endorsing this plan for the Buffalo Sabres. The tanking is over. For other teams like Boston, New Jersey, Carolina, Toronto and (eventually) Arizona? We'll see. I expect Boston will end up shipping out some pieces in order to get the best shot possible at the American superstar.
-
Where has this been reported? Outside of the obvious "hey, could we get your best young players in this deal?" I don't think this is true in any reports.

Revisiting one burning question about Terry — why did he buy the Sabres?
Hoss replied to Stoner's topic in The Aud Club
The amount of effort put into trying to make the Pegulas into villains by a few posters is mind boggling. So he bought the team as a means to get a foot in the door on the revitalization of a city and that's supposed to be negative in any way? It's not. In fact that's a great reason to buy a team. And I believe it was Liger who had the post that should've ended this conversation: why would this reasoning and attempting to bring a championship to the city be mutually exclusive? This city loves its sports and often times is content or not based on the performance of its teams... Happier people spend more money so winning teams would play a part in making this city better. We can have our cake and eat it, too: we got owners who are here for the long haul and we can love them for it. It's okay to be happy about SOMETHING in your sporting fandom. -
I don't think a single offseason is going to suddenly make what we did last year a bad or less successful plan. I think more teams being evenly matched would make more incentive for a team to tank.
-
I don't know what that has to do with the NHL's scoring pace. What are you getting at? (Also, Auston Matthews is an obvious reason to tank but the new lottery rules may make it harder). Also - Arizona is going to get their first loss tonight it seems bit man that team should be pumped about its future. They're calling Duclair and Domi the "Killer Ds" (which is Killed Dumb as hell). Duclair has four goals and Domi three already on the young season. Martin Hanzal has seven assists already.
