Blue, I like many of your posts but please don't generalize. I have played at a high level and am offended. We can have differing opinions, that's perfectly OK. But please don't dispute my credentials offhand.
-
College. Maybe things have changed since I played in the 80's. However, teamwork I don't think has changed much.
-
What level did you play? Did you ever have to go into a battle where you disliked your teammate but took a beat down for him.
-
Geez Blue, thanks for the "people" condescension. My condescending reply is this. "If you've ever played competitive hockey at a high level, I'd be genuinely surprised."
-
Sorry to disagree. But guys like McCabe don't sour over losing. Quite the opposite. They get pissed. Sabres need more like him. And I think his IQ is perfectly fine for a 5-6 D-man. Let's talk about Risto's IQ before McCabe gets into the discussion.
-
I'm going to keep saying that getting rid of McCabe is a mistake. We need more of him, not less. Why do other teams want him??? Because they know his value and need that on their team. I'm ok with Nelson, Hundwick, Scandella, even Pilut if it comes to that, but not McCabe.

Great post. Once you start skating, you have a natural inclination on which way to crossover is more conformable. Also which way to stop. At that point, the shooting preference is pretty much identified. Then I look at the Russian teams of the 70s and 80 and 95% of their players shot left. There must be a way to teach it. I'm looking to take up the guitar. Before I buy, I'll have to figure out if I WANT to be a lefty or righty (not a political statement). ?
-
Didn't know you could teach that?? I thought whatever hip you slide on (baseball slide) is your natural inclination. Slide on your right hip, you shoot right.

I love the title of this thread. "Fenton fired as Wild GM". Maybe they will be looking for a tamer replacement.
-
And his especially colorful language, some allegedly directed at Kim.

You may be right. That's what makes this board fun. I think if the Sabres miss the playoffs, Pegula will rely on the ol' "continuity is a good thing" mantra and give JBOT another year because Pegula will still have no idea how to fix it. I think it's a moot point because I do believe that the Sabres will make progress this year (but probably not the playoffs). That will give Pegula cover to keep JBOT on for another year. Personally, I like JBOT and think he just needs more time. If it was easy, every team would win the Stanley Cup every year.?
-
This season for JBOT is like last season for the Bills. They will try to be competitive and show progress, but the following year is when many of the albatross contracts come off the books. I think Pegula likes the direction of the Bills and sees the Sabres on the same course. I have been a critic of Pegula but I can't disagree with this approach. I think it would have to be an epic collapse (bottom 3 in the league) for Pegula to fire JBOT and start over with a new GM and coach.

Not much return for those two. I'm thinking a 4th and a 7th if we're lucky. But a hefty return is not the primary objective, is it? I see Jake got married in 2017 to a woman named Lucy Cashin. I'm not a believer in pre-nups, but with that name, it might have made me think twice.
-
Gave up a grand slam. Must have served up a hangin' Chad. I'll see myself out. Dog days indeed.
-
Good observation. Precisely why I think JBOT's job is safe next year regardless of the record this year.
-
I'm not sure it's a couple weeks, more like a couple days for a second buyout window. At any rate, I have to believe that JBOT will do something and it's already lined up. Once the RFA stuff is done, we will see the final plan. I hope!
-
Orr. Bad knees. BUST. Actually, he was my favorite player growing up before the Sabres were in existence. Can't believe I EVER liked a Bruin. 2 best skating d-men I ever saw; Orr and Coffey.

Exactly what McDermottt and Beane said last season.
-
Thanks for the info and I agree. JBOT just waiting for the other arbitration cases to end before he pulls the trigger.
-
Risto is as good as gone. But I do believe that the Pegula's see this Sabres year just like last year's Bills year. Live with some bad contracts (or dead money), clean out the system, hope to overachieve, and hit free agency hard the following summer. Next year is THE year for the Sabres just like this year is THE year for the Bills.

ERod -- 1 yr, $2MM, after being > $1 million apart in arbitration

Tom, It was a J.F. Kennedy reference (regarding the Tim Kennedy past situation) and an attempt at humor. My bad. -

Yep. I think either 1 of Girgs, Larry, or E-Rod will be a sweetener to go along with Risto (wherever that is). -

Article says E-Rod was awarded a contract. It this final or could the Sabres walk away? -
Yeah. I had hoped you wouldn't catch it! I'll call it artistic license. It was a good show back in the day. At my age, I'm just glad I know how to embed images.?
