GMTM probably used the "you'll get at least a game if you sign today" line to get them to sign. Smith made about 50k for his 5 games with the big club. Not a bad gig.
As I watch this game, and this season, I think, "Thank God there's bourbon." Maker's Mark for me, BTW. But I'll be on here tomorrow. I'll never jump off the bandwagon.
For us old folk, Kane reminds me of Rick Martin. Fast, has only one move (outside to in), great shot, and tireless. Wish he scored a few more but I wonder how many fewer goals Martin would have had if they had the over inflated goalie equipment back then.
I'm hoping the secret deal that GMTM made with George McPhee of Vegas was not about not taking a particular player but rather a promise to take 47 off our roster.
I hope so. You may be right and we have him playing above his role due to necessity. But with Larsson returning next year, we have too many 3rd/4th line players. If we can flip Girgs into a package that get us a D-Man, I pull the trigger (fast).
I think Girgs has reached his peak. He's never going to be a 20 goal scorer. I see him interchangeable with Marcus. However, Marcus can fight which adds a dimension. Girgs is JAG. I want him to be more, but he's JAG.
I listed Girgs with intent. I think his speed is average at best at a pro level. He's young, but not fast. That's why I think he has stagnated in his career to this point.
I think we have a speed problem. When Nylander, Erod, Guhle, Carrier and even Smith are out there, we are competitive. When Franson, Gorges, Girgensons, Moulson are out there, we are terrible. Speed kills.
