40 years old, only God knows. 40 goals, yes.

Watching Marty diagnose plays it made me realize that hockey in the 70s and 80s was more entertaining because the game was more art than science. It's true for all sports of today. Incessant videos, analytics, regimented diets and weight programs, defensive coaching including the left wing lock have taken a certain joy out of the game.

Forget Sabre dance, this should be the theme song as the Sabres come on to the ice tonight: Why try? I know why The feeling inside me says it's time I was gone Clear head, new life ahead It's time I was king now -- not just one more pawn Fly by night, away from here Change my life again Fly by night, goodbye my dear My ship isn't coming and I just can't pretend

Casey Nelson tells press he was behind play and didn’t see the head hit
Tondas replied to SDS's topic in The Aud Club
I disagree with PH on this. I don't disagree that he should have had a conversation with Casey on his lack of response (although Casey has played hockey all his life and should know this by now). What I disagree with is sitting him for the next game. I'd keep him in the lineup and want to see that he learned from the conversation. My guess, if Casey wants to stay with the Sabres, is that he would be the first person in any scrum when he is on the ice and would take anyone to task for taking the slightest liberty with any of his teammates. If he didn't learn, then I'd sit him for the rest of the season and let JBOT do the rest in the summer. -
That's what I heard. Just another normal shift in the NHL. If they legislate swearing out of the NHL, the game would grind to a halt with an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty every 30 seconds.

Must Win!....That's funny. Must Compete!,.....yeah, right. Must at least be entertaining!....forgetaboutit. Must play the game because the NHL mandates it!....Now we're on to something.

Eichel Gets Two Game Suspension from the Dept of Player Safety

Jack can't be too pleased in losing approximately a quarter million dollars for a 1 second lapse in judgement. -
What are your predictions/expectations for next year?
Tondas replied to freester's topic in The Aud Club
Wilson has a spot on this team next year somewhere. He goes all out on each shift and it's noticeable to me against the backdrop of all the other Sabres going through the motions. They can't have 20 Wilsons, but they are a better team with 2 or 3. -
Sabres Soft? Zadorov hit on Eichel reminiscent of Lucic/Miller in 2011

The analytics department needs to develop a new player metric: Circumference/Heart metric. The size of a players balls divided by the size of his heart. A metric score of 1 is ideal. -
GDT - Sabres @ Colorado - March 9, 2019 - 3:00 PM - ALT; MSG-B

Phil said we have to “execute before we get physical”. Reminds me of the Tampa Bay Bucs coach John McKay when asked, “What do you think of your team’s execution coach?” To which McKay replied, “I’m in favor of it.” -
It would be interesting to see the Sabres play the Amerks right now.

NHL.TV is wacky. I live in Lincoln, NE, 485 miles from Denver but am blacked out since the Avs are my "local" team. 485 miles is like Buffalo to Roanoke, VA. Listening to this online. Brings back memories of the ol' transistor radio. -
Since this started with my post last night regarding Danny Gare (and by the way I don't consider myself an old timer), I thought I'd weigh in. SDS stated, "I wish people would just go to YouTube and watch the Sabres or any other team of the 70s. It’s a clown show. Any college team could have beaten the 75 Sabres and certainly any Junior national team." I read the bolded part and thought he was saying any college team of 1975 could beat the 1975 Sabres. Being a pedant, I would have preferred that his statement was, "Any CURRENT college team could have beaten the 75 Sabres." My mistake. I agree that current college teams could possibly and may be probably beat the teams of old for all the posts that are listed in the thread. (However, I think Perreault would still be a star on any current college team.) Anyway, the logic is true for just about any profession. Are engineers today better than engineers of yesteryear? Yes, they have computer modeling. Accountants today have spreadsheets. Mechanics today have computer readouts that diagnose problems. Pilots are better trained than in the 70's. Dentist have 3-D printed crown replacements. It's unfair to compare eras. I'm not saying the 1975 Sabres are better than college teams of today, but they were exciting to watch against competition of the era. And frankly, the 1975 teams may not be better than today's robot players, but I'd argue they were more entertaining and endearing to the fans.

Yeah, I agree too. But a little more internal accountability would be refreshing. I'm all for the Bickering Sabres. Worked for another Buffalo team.

Interesting Hutton quote. "It's tough for us to run with their horses in the shootout. A retaliatory shot at Reinhart???

I hear Ryan Vinz has looked great in practice. However, he's only taking shots from Sobotka and Girgensons.
