Went to school in Saint Louis and spent some time in Kansas...thought I was going to die one night, had a huge tornado outbreak that spawned like 40 tornadoes within a 200 mile radius of where I was. Got woke up around midnight to the sound of what I could only describe as a jet engine literally directly overhead and outside my hotel room that lasted for like 30-40 seconds straight....I was scared sh!tless...thought it was a tornado, nope... Next day I'm talking to one of the locals and asked them about that and they laughed and said "Yeah...I haven't heard that in a while...it happens but not very often...". Apparently it's basically non-stop thunder being caused by the intensity and frequency of the lightning happening...hope I never experience that again.

Speaking of Tornadoes... Strong T-Storms caused by very humid, warm air masses...all it takes is a minor disturbance passing thru to act as a trigger. Also spawned 2 tornadoes. The lake usually protects us a great deal, but it can't do much when it's that warm and humid.

Do the two 17.5" guns attached to my shoulders count? 😂

Out of all the free agents signed every year to big dollar contracts, how many of them work out well for the team that signed them in terms of their play justifying their contract size? Maybe 15%? Everyone loves talking about all the p[layers who worked out but nobody talks about the 85% who never came close to justifying what the team paid them. Remember that next time you get mad about the Sabres "not doing more". For the most part, the worst cap dollars you will ever spend are the ones you spend in free agency and that has been born out over decades of analytics on the topic. This is just a study from 2019-2020 that highlights how bad free agency is at providing what you actually want ion terms of dollars spent. Teams paid for 844 wins at free agency to players expected to generate 593 wins, but who actually delivered just 217 wins - just 25.7% of what they paid for. More than half of all free agent contracts are an overpayment on day 1 In their first contract year, free agents deliver only about 28% of the value they are paid for. 2/3rds of players given 6 or 7 year contracts don't finish the contracts due to things like injury "The worst deals aren’t worth it almost 90 percent of the time and even the best deals don’t live up to expectations even half the time."

Sometimes the best moves you make are the ones you don't...FA signings by and in large are not worth the money they cost in terms of production per point and that's been born out over many years of studying the data.

Grit Rankings 2: The 4th Line Strikes Back (2024 Ed.)
matter2003 replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
There really is no reason for it when you have big guys who play physical at times like Greenway, Tuch, Robinson, Girgensons, etc...but it's like they only chose to do it once every 4 or 5 games. -

I thought Benson was consistently highest in that category in TOO many games last year for an 18 year old rookie. Kinda inexcusable really. -
We have cap room and a spot -- to get Tkachuk, what would you now give up?

"To get more than you gave... And I wanted what I got... When you got skin in the game, you stay in the game... But you don't get a win unless you play in the game... Oh, you get love for it.. You get hate for it... But you get nothing if you... wait for it...wait for it...wait for it... God help and forgive me... I want to build something that's gonna outlive me... What do you want Adams? What do you want Adams? If you stand for nothing Adams, what'll you fall for? I want to be in the room where it happens...the room where it happens...the room where it happens..." -
OT: Things (mostly sports related) that you think are overrated

Well, we are also going to Metz near the Belgium border since my cousin lives there as well as Northwestern Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, so it should give us a pretty wide sample 🙂 -

Same with me...loved it as a kid, played it all the time, used to play 9 inning games with my friend where it was basically like home run derby, played video game baseball, Microleague baseball on the PC, NES Baseball Stars, Tommy Lasorda Baseball, etc... Was a huge Mets fan(like my Mom) growing up and woke the house up screaming and yelling when they came back to win Game 6 in the 1986 World Series(Bill Buckner Game) even tho I should have been in bed hours before it ended. Now, could care less other than just randomly checking the standings every month or so. -
Probably someone that get paid way too much money for what they do thought it was a great idea...just like Budweiser thought it was a great idea to run ads promoting their brand to transgenders which then alienated 95% of their drinkers to the point they boycotted it and cost them billions and they still haven't fully recovered from that blunder. Revenues still down 9% in the first quarter of this year which is a marked improvement of the 17% they were down in Q4 of 2023. Obviously not many people are going to care about someone changing a name from Season Ticket Holder to Season Membership, but it's along the same vein.

That's what happens when they are still paying off that huge debt load the took on to buy the team.

TNT that's Dynamite!

Sarcasm isn't your thing I see...that one flew right over your head.
-
WTF....is this some new fancy term they are trying out...Season "Memberships"? Whoever came up with that one should be getting canned...

This "small team" narrative just won't die even tho it hasn't been true in several years now. It's just a lazy thing to say by people who don't spend much time actually fact checking old media narratives

Perhaps Reimer is there for the kids to lean on for advice and experience purposes, more like a mentor that can step in when needed. Smart people learn from other people's mistakes rather than their own.

Wonder if he is going to walk into the locker room wearing the beefcake pantyhose? At least they should have plenty of cheez-whiz to do shots in between periods with now... Adams can just break it on down before he kills the headlights and puts it in neutral. -
Hard to believe this is true considering he has the best prospect pool in the NHL which he drafted and that's after promoting the best ones out of them to the NHL roster already. Most GM's would probably give their left nut to have our prospect pool.

Because you can think they are the most dysfunctional organization in the NHL, just like the Bills were thought to be that in the NFL for a long time and almost overnight the Bills are now widely regarded as one of the best run organizations in not only the NFL, but all of professional sports having the 2nd best winning percentage in any of the 4 major sports over the last 4 years. Why? Because they eventually had too much talent so none of that other stuff mattered anymore and they started to win. A LOT.
