  1. I was really impressed with Kane's Olympic performance Hodgson and Kane probably faced the same defences (different conferences not with standing). I don't think the other team was putting out their best D against Scott. I don't like this reasoning. I don't support the Sabres based on the merit of their performance, so I don't see why their performance should affect the legitimacy of my views
  2. This is sophies choice. Bennett is tr better two way player, quicker, plays with an edge and compares himself to Toews (my hockey crush). Reinhart has the better hockey IQ, which might be better in the long run. He is also solid defensively, if not as good as Bennett (who was ranked 3rd best defensive forward in tr O). I chose Reinhart, but would honestly be happy with either. Part of me hopes Florida make the choice for us Of the top 5, Murray spoke with least enthusiasm about Ekblad. Plus we were the lowest scoring team in 70 years. And our forward prospects are almost non existent. I am willing to bet we don't take Ekblad if he is available.
  3. Man this Blues game is awesome. It is a shame these two teams met in the first round. I think they might tire each other out so whoever wins loses next round :(
  4. In the last 10 years. Since the internet has become a thing it is different. Especially European players, which were often selected late because few other teams had been able to go and see them. That doesn't happen anymore. Whilst not as good as the real thing, video-scouting is still very viable, if for no other reason than getting players on scouts radars
  5. I wanted the strength and conditioning guy gone. He is useless
  6. Lidstrom (no N) was a secret. Anyone who mentioned his name outside the red wing war room was viable for firing
  7. Bruins win the cup Ekblad drafted 1st overall Sabres draft Reinhart Islanders keep the pick, draft De Cole Ott resigns Tallinder resigns Briere resigns Setoguchi signs here for 4 years Konopka resigns Scott is not resigned Sabres trade Foligno Kaleta makes the team Pysyk and Risto play in the NHL Zadorov gets 7 games but gets sent down McCabe plays in AHL but is first NHL call up (gets 25+ games) Grigo does not make the team - but plays 30+ games call up Stafford gets the C, Girgenson/Myers the A
  8. "He's 6'8' but he skates like he is 5'8'" I like Murray and Nolan - they both speak plainly but don't get themselves in trouble (too much). Also with the Leino buy out. I got confused the question was will the second buy be used, as the first is reserved for Leino. After a little bit of banter Murray said 50/50. Did he mean Leino or the second buyout is 50/50?
  9. What's the opposite of gambler's fallacy? :P Buffalo's veracity?
  10. 4 picks in the top 32 of the 2015 draft sure could be nice... :P Islanders are screwed either way. They lose a top 5 this year or they lose the chance for McDavid/Eichel and don't draft in the top 60 of a deep draft If I am them I defer, next year could do some serious damage if they lose those picks. Plus with the move coming up, that will make ti harder to get UFAs for next year
  11. Maybe they broke promises or whatever. Just because they are good doesn't mean they can't screw him over
  12. Buffalo - Yes Calgary - Probably Edmonton - I think they dig themselves out this off season. They have to. Florida - Probably Vancouver - Maybe, it depends what they do this offseason. Their goalies could also carry them Carolina - No. They played a large chunk of this season without Ward and with a bad E Staal. Washington - No. They aren't good but they are always a bubble team at the least. NJ - Maybe. They also made the playoffs this season but Jagr probably won't be back Detroit - No way. They made the playoffs without their top three centres (basically). Injury bitten to the nth degree Toronto - No. They are a bubble team Islanders were awful with Moulson/Vanek and Tavares and got worse when both dropped out. Okoposo had a fantastic season. There are 3/4 goalies on FA, who would pick to go to the Islanders over say Anaheim or the Blues or even Washington
  13. Faceoff should have been in the zone. Cody got pushed. The tank continues :(
  14. It is not really about objective ability of the player but the fact they were top 3. Stephan had an alright career but is considered the biggest bust of the draft by many. If I am drafting top 3 I want that player that you can hitch your franchise to. Turris might be getting better, but he is still around the 0.5ppg mark. He was the highest ranked player going into the draft, meanwhile Stamkos is a 60 goal scorer. Side note but I think this could be a Bennet/Reinhart situation, but that is just a gut feeling. Bogosian is an ok young defenceman, but he is hardly Drew Doughty or Victor Hedman Huberdeau had a good rookie year but I just haven't felt he was very dangerous in a while (but he is very young so it is too early to truly tell) Ryan was drafted 2nd overall and hovers around the 50s whilst playing most of his career on a power play with Perry and Getslaf. I've never been hot on him, so maybe this is just a bias Johnson is a top 4 guy, true. But if I am drafting top 3 I want more than that. I would take Pysyk over Johnson JVR is showing flashes but he is still not dominating the game My point is that I want a player who changes the game when he steps on the ice. You can pick up good players in the rest of the draft. I want great players
  15. I thought Leino was going to score then. I am expecting a goal in the next 3 games.
  16. Washington are up 5-1, Ovi is still a -1
  17. Bad - Yakupov, Bogosian, Turris, Barker (7%) Dissapointing - Gudbranson, Hubardeau, Van Riemsdyk,J Staal, E Johnson, Ryan, J Johnson (26%) So whilst it is unlikely we would get a 'bad' player (Barker is probably the only truly bad player); there is over 1/3 chance that we get someone who is just a secondary player that can't carry your franchise (another Vanek)
  18. I would be surprised if we tank as hard as we did this season. I think next year they make a push to be out of the bottom 5. At the very least I would not expect a 15 point difference between us and 29th (or whatever the current difference is). I also think everyone here equates a tank with McDavid/Eichel, which it just doesn't. This year we are getting a good player. Not an elite hang your franchise on them player. Mike Richards style. Next year, outside those two, I think we could end up in the same situation.
  19. I agree with the delaying of the pick. However, with a thin free agent market, who will they really sign to be of impact? What good goalies are available? Miller, Hiller, Halak. Maybe Thomas or Bryzgalov? I wouldn't expect a huge turn around. This season they were no where near the playoffs with Vanek/Moulson on the team. They sure as hell ain't getting someone of that quality back. They do have good young guys (a few of them). But the Oilers are proof that you can't ask your young guys to step in and pull you along. I really don't know which way they will go. All I know is that FA is after the draft and if they fail to get any nice names they could be sweating over the next season.
