Puck Daddy says GMTM's desire for Luke Richardson as coach
Trettioåtta replied to SDS's topic in The Aud Club
Nolan got a three year deal I think. I am not sold on him as a coach for a long season. He is a good motivate, but i'm not sure he is enough of a tactician -
1) The Last of Us 2) Bioshock 3) Uncharted series 4) Pokemon red/blue 5) Mass Effect series 6) Portal 2 7) Bioshock Infinite 8) Far Cry 3

Kane has reset his twitter to complete the fresh start. Said he is very excited about the trade. Also commented saying he did not have the surgery to end his season, but during a game his shoulder popped out twice and it was getting painful. When they opened him up it was worse than expected and so it was good they fixed it now. He also played through a fractured ankle and hand earlier in the season. He also said he found the tracksuit thing funny and that kind of stuff doesn't bother him. Finally he also wondered if it would be Eichel or McDavid we would draft - said he is excited to play with them/other young guys on team.

Again, the return isn't great

This was a lot to give up. Not sure how I feel about it. Especially as Murray made that McNabb trade last year, which wasn't great. If Lameiux wasn't included i'd be happier. I think we overpaid by one asset :/ I hope Kane pulls his together. I really wanted us to draft this guy, but he seems like a bit of a cancer

Why can't the Oilers win a game or two? Things are pretty snug down in the bottom two. We need to out-tank them. If we come second there is only like a 1/3 chance we get one of the studs

Don't tell PA that, those events may end up being Pegula's Dealey Plaza, Dallas moment

Most people are not so good at something it would feel like a waste if they didn't do it. That's the key. It isn't about doing a job you hate because you can't think of something better or don't have the capital to leave. It's the fact you have the freedom to do whatever you want, but to quit would be to give up millions as well as your best ability. Hard to justify that to oneself/peers/family, especially when your parents sacrificed so much of their lives to pay for equipment or drive you to practice/games. Just after the 1 minute mark. Says sport was always top for him, but to play piano he had to go to hockey practice. Music is clearly the guys hobby, but i wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't uncommon for hockey players to like hockey but not LOVE it

How many shut outs is that?

Plus their core guys (e.g. Richards, Brown) are build for the playoffs not the regular season

I know Lindy used to quite like being a lower seed team. As that means the first two games are away, so if you lose both then oh well we'll make it up at home, but if you split them then suddenly you feel like you control the series and could be 3-1 up before having to go back to their building. I'm inclined to agree

Yeah but it wasn't jus that. We had a tiny scouting department that only looked at video footage. We traded away a lot of our 2nd round picks for a useless player. Our draft record from that era is horrific. If the mid-naughties drafting turned up anything good we might have done a lot better. We also traded away the wrong players. Paille became a great 4th liner/PK, MacArthur is a great second line forward now, etc.

Based on advanced stats?

Risk-Reward. The fact is Richards has been an assistant captain to a team that has won a cup in 2/3 years he has been there. The American economy is improving. Over the next year that will mean it can buy more stuff from Canada, and as the USA-Canada trade a ton of stuff that will make a large impact on Canada's economy, helping to pick it up. I.e. things might not look too hot north of the border atm, but in a few years they will.

How so? You have to factor projected growth into long-term deals. With the American economy just picking back up fairly nicely, and because of the amount of trade between Canada and USA, that will pick up the Canadian economy over the next year or so. The cap has generally gone up $4-6 million per year, so even with the cap eventually hitting some plateau setting an estimate at $2 million a year with an improving economy seems like a fairly restrained guess It screws Philly and LA, and yes we get first refusal. Richards cap hit with LA (including this year) was 23 mil and he earnt 29.6 mil (6.6mil excess). With Philly he earnt 17.4 mil and his cap hit was 17.25
