Game Discussion Thread GDT: Sabres at Rangers, 3/3/13, 7:30 PM

In our division, Toronto has 26 points, we have 19 - that is 7 points. Toronto has +9 goals, we have -12, which makes a goal differential of 21 -
True, but 2/3 of the assists are secondary. I am not saying he is a bad player, I just really hate him as a centre. Watch him with the puck tonight, he never passes to the defence and we just keeps hold of the puck for far too long. He is a very talented player who is best on the rush but I don't think he makes his linemates better. Most of his assists this season have either been irrelevant to the play or pretty pedestrian passes to the defence who then take a shot which is deflected or the rebound is put in Florida: Irrelevant to the goal Pittsburgh: Ehrhoff passes to him, he passes to Ehrhoff, Ehrhoff shoots the puck off Vanek's stick Boston: First is a lovely pass to Stafford, Second he is irrelevant Montreal: First he touches the puck and Vanek picks it up makes a move to the backhand and scores (I don't think Ennis did anything particularly important on the play); second is a scramble in the goal crease, again he didn't do anything of particular note Boston: Ehrhoff passes to him, he passes to Ehrhoff, Ehrhoff shoots the puck off Vanek's stick Washington: Passes to Sekera, he shoots, Foligno puts in the rebound - but in fairness I think Ennis is more involved in this play compared to his other plays Philly: Passes to Myers who shoots and scores Tally: Irrelevant: II Passes to D-man who shoots: IIII Other: III He has three assists where he was more actively involved in the play (and that is being very very generous). Look at the two assists Coho had yesterday and Ennis has at best one like that (Stafford). Now I know you could do this with a lot of players, but I just don't think he is the playmaker his assists suggest he is

Yes, I would take a team which looked good and lost over a bad one that won. Talent comes through in the end. This team is plodding along - literally the only reason we are winning is we have become a trap team. People are saying they are playing with more energy, and that is true, but consider this: They got the longest tenured coach fired, their season is almost over and their response was to lose, get shutout, win by trapping, give up a late tying goal and win two in shootouts - that is hardly sending a message. I don't look at this team and think wow LR was clearly holding them back, I look at this team and say LR should have really said ###### it and played the trap. We still get outshot, we still don't bury our chances and we still can't score on the powerplay Honestly, do you think you would be as happy with the teams performance if they were 1-2-2 and 29th in the league? Shoot-outs do not effect team performance so you should be as happy with a team that was 29th and this team - personally I am happier about this result, but feel the same about the way the team has played FYI..our powerplay is 1/17 since RR took over -

No, people have not said that, but my point is that i think people are letting the result colour their opinions of the team and the coaching - realistically those shootouts could have gone either way, and if we did lose them, I don't think people would be calling this team average, they would be calling it abysmal. Toronto - 3-1 loss Islanders - 4-0 Shutout Tampa - 2-1 win Florida - 4-3 Shootout win, gave a up the tying goal with 90 seconds remaining Devils - 4-3 Shootout win We are playing the trap more (something i really despise) to steal points. The team is still not functioning all that well - we have scored 9 goals in 5 games. But we have scored more in the last few games right? Well true, but over the last 3 games we have been outshot 105-69. This team might be grabbing some wins, but I don't think they are playing much better than before - why? Because we lack talent. we have 4 top 6 players, as a result everyone else is playing at the wrong level. If we trade Stafford for TJ Oshie then Regier deserves a medal. -
Put Gretzky on Ennis' line for all it matters. Until Ennis realises passing is allowed in the game no-one on his line will flourish

We are really not playing that well. We have lost twice, been shutout once, given up a late goal to take the game to overtime, two of our wins have come from shoot outs, one of the goalies we beat was a down on his luck 39yo career back-up and we have played the trap for most of these games. I am glad we are winning, but let's not pretend we are world beaters right now, we have limped through these games. Would everyone be as happy if we were 1-2-2? Because, as a shoot-out has no bearing on how the team has played the game, people should still be saying how with ruff gone this team is so much improved, irrespective of the shootout result -

Think how many starts Enroth would suddenly have gotten -
Idiot. He said he looked a lot like him, not he sounded like him - stop being one of those people who looks for things to offend or annoy them http://www.buffalospree.com/buffalospreemagazine/images/archives/2005_12/1205_danny.jpg http://www.fireandreamitchell.com/wp-content/gallery/conservatives/rush-limbaugh.jpg i can see it

Missed the whole game as was out to dinner with gf's family friends - but, why were people blaming Myers for their third goal? According to the stats he wasn't on the ice when it happened? Sounds like a boring game for the most part. One criticism i have of RR, is that (understandably) he seems to play Rochester players (Flynn, Porter) more than I think they 'deserve' - e.g. Flynn was out when 1:30 was left on the clock and Porter was out in both OT and 1:30 left on the clock. If we are talking of earning ice time - play Grigo or Hecht or play your 1st of 2nd line (whichever one has stepped off the ice) -
How do those stats compare to other players in that league?

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=417108 Bill says he would have had to clear waivers. I bet ROR is glad they matched him as well - 2 years as a bluejacket would have taught him a lesson -
He's averages just over 5 minutes a game for the previous 3, the 3 before that he was a healthy scratch

What did you like about it? We were outplayed for 45/65 minutes, we gave up a late goal, so we didn't steal the win, we failed on 3 2 on 1s, the shoot out was alright, but it just is a nothing win, we can't afford to hand out too many loser points -

it would explain why they matched so quickly. If they waited a day they couldn;t trade him till the offseason 2014 - when his contract would be up -

Grigo got 2 shifts in the last 40 minutes - both in the second. We can't go into this style of game every time we get a one goal lead -

Looks like Grigo will be sat for this whole period. I really don't get how this helps the guy. I have no problem with 10-12 minutes, but 5 seems pointless - especially when he is sat for entire periods/games -

I wonder if they trade him in 12 months so they don't have to sign him to a 6.5m contract after this one -

Maybe ROR had no interest in us. Vancouver also offer sheeted him and he refused

Surely Florida would be better to cut ticket prices by 40% and fill up the remaining 50% of the arena. More money and the illusion of fans -
