  1. The fact NHL players stopped playing the AHL probably. I doubt CoHo, Foligno and Brennan were hurting the team in anyway
  2. He is 18, Flynn is 24. 6 years is a big gap. Grigo is the youngest player in the NHL this season. Some guys will be more ready than others, nothing more to say really. It doesn't help that he always plays on the fourth line - he has made some nice plays, but often the talent is not there to do much with it. He has played 20ish games in the NHL - i'm not ready to call him a bust yet. Stamkos had about 5 points in his first 20 games - was he a bust? Let him find his feet - he has the skill to be a 2 way centre. He is benched ever time he gives the puck away, this teaches him defence but will also limit his offence and creativity until he is defensively sound - most young guys have a longer lead
  3. I'm still confused at this blow up idea Armia, Grigo, Ennis, Coho, Foligno, McNabb, Pysyk, Myers, Tropp (and maybe even our first this year) will all probably have a roster spot next year, which would mean we have 8/9 guys around the 23 and under mark. That is almost half a roster of young guys. We need vets around to help them. If we get too much younger the sabres will need to employ a nanny
  4. I think part of his slow skating his he is not used to the speed of the game and I think he is defensively conscious enough that he doesn't want to be out of position by charging for a puck - he seems to be looking around a lot when on the ice. Myers is unlikely to be traded unless they get a lot for him. He has only been bad this season and he is looking better. I don't think you make major moves based on players individual performance this season.
  5. I'm presuming this is a joke? Our special teams have sucked most of the time for the last 5 years.
  6. We are near bottom of the league, might as well bring up the young guys and watch them fail? We have a good young set of guys why ruin them?
  7. Foligno had 1 goal through 25 games and Brennan made Myers look like the reigning Norris. I'd rather keep Vanek and Pominville and at least occasionally win
  8. I think all 30 teams have an eye on him. I just don't think Buffalo can attract stars unless we overpay by a lot. I also really hope Perry gets less than 8.7. He really isn't that good - he is upper echelon but not Malkin/Crosby
  9. The core are the only ones who are performing, for the most part, I want to get a new bottom 6 look. Anyway, since Rolston has come in, the AHL guys have looked good, but our real forwards have looked worse. HPV has 4 goals in 10 games under him, compared to 15 in 17 under Ruff. Ehrhoff has 1 point under Rolston compared to 10 under Ruff etc.
  10. Since Ron Rolston was coach?
  11. How did you come across this information?
  12. I'd bet he'd trade the $100,000 to not have to sit in a shower for an hour with no lights on. Not to mention the mental side effects (e.g. depression)
  13. One thought. We lost our last two stars for nothing. Now we are hearing rumours of either them wanting out or us not wanting them. This speaks to a toxic environment in Buffalo. If we lose/trade our current stars it just isn't a good sign in my mind. (For one, it means we're looking at a proper rebuild, even though we have a lot of young guys anyway)
  14. Regehr is probably the target - just what LA need. Maybe Stafford too From Inside Hockey's rumors: •The Sabres are shopping Stafford. Red Wings, Canucks and Kings have all inquired. I am being told LA is ready to make a splash again at this year’s trade deadline day. They do have the authority from the owner to spend to the cap, and I’m being told they target a top 6 forward as well as a solid d-man. Talks ongoing with Sabres for Regehr and Oilers for Smid.
  15. Poor guy. To spend your whole life working for something, only to have to taken away by a freak accident when you have made it. I can't imagine how he feels. But it is good he has his priorities right. Hopefully he can find a job in the world he loves
  16. The line of Kunitz, Crosby and Dupuis has been the league's most productive at even-strength, scoring 25 goals. Here are the top 19 trios (9-way tie for 20th), for goal production at even strength, according to www.leftwinglock.com: Rk Team LW C RW GOALS 1 PIT Chris Kunitz Sidney Crosby Pascal Dupuis 25 2 CAR Jiri Tlusty Eric Staal Alexander Semin 20 3 BUF Thomas Vanek Cody Hodgson Jason Pominville 19
  17. Edmonton should have traded last years first for depth and vets
  18. A player usually loses money as compensation for getting the NTC/NMC. So they say I want $7mill per or $5mill per and a NTC etc. I think it is often done to give the player stability, which is especially important if they have a family etc.
  19. Flynn is too much like what the Sabres have a bunch of - role playing guys. You can have one, maybe two, a team. We have like 5 or 6 (Mccormick, Porter, Flynn, Gerbe, Hecht, even Leino doesn't have a real place on the team)
  20. As I have said before, I think our issue (in the forwards) is: A) Missing two top 6 wingers (paging Foligno and Stafford) B) Lack of identity in the bottom 6 What is sad is that with all the spare parts we have this season/last few, we don't have a tool kit to taylor our roster to the opponents, we have the box of toys about to be donated to charity - misfits. Gerbe is not skilled enough for a top 6 role, not good enough defensively for a traditional third line role and too small for a fourth line role. If the Sabres sign Drew Miller and Boyd Gordon I will be happy - two defensively minded guys who can play 13-15 minutes.
  21. Which is enough to harpoon many a trade. Are there more than 8 teams out there who need a goalie and he doesn't want to play for? He might not want to play for Boston, but he won;t be traded there so he doesn;t need to worry about putting them down as one of his 8
  22. Yes, but he isn't Miller and isn't a Sabre. So he will be better Myers/Miller/2nd for Bryz/3rd?
  23. He is a left handed player who played the left wing of Briere, but he can play both wings
  24. I don't think it is all that surprising. They want to know they still matter, if we are preparing for a run in 5 years, then they probably want to go somewhere else. However - the Habs went from last to top of the East in one off season. If we have a big trade deadline, draft and FA we could be a retooled team. Some of our biggest problems are players not living up to potential/expectations. PK Subban is almost a point per game player, Myers has been a basket case 90% of the time. Stafford should have double his production. The Habs, in 2012/13, brought in Armstrong, Boulion, Bourque, Galchenyuk, Prust and Ryder - not exactly major moves. They also got a new coach and gm and 'philosophy'
  25. Ah I see, thanks. On that note - I wonder, is part of our failure these last few years something to do with our failings in the 05, 06 and 07 drafts (especially our first rounders)? These guys should be stepping into our line up 08ish onwards, but they weren't there, and it also meant we had no prospects to trade for established players
