I didn't see the Blues beat the Kings.... I was watching the Blackhawks/Wild game when it happened. But.... just saw the replay of the Blues' win in the intermission report on NBC.... Wow....that has to be one of the stupidest shorthanded goals ever. What the hell was Quick thinking? I mean, it wasn't even a breakaway or a defensive error - the Blues cleared the puck down ice on the PP, and Quick's just standing behind the goal with it. I thought that sort of thing could only happen to a Buffalo team.

"Darcy" Regher unfortunately took a skate to the face - he's a trooper though - got back in there.
-
Gonna be a late hockey night. :)
-
Who woulda thought that both the Blackhawks/Wild game and the Blues/Kings game would go to O/T? I am surprised the the Hawks and Kings didn't dominate.
-
So what's the group's consensus by now? Is Miller average, or elite? :)
-
The clear perspective, now that the dust has settled and we can view with clarity and 'distance', is that Regier threw his old 'pal' Lindy under the bus in order to keep his own ass out of the sling. A real man would take some responsibility and ownership for the clear failures of the team and move on to fresh pastures - but apparently not Regier.
-
More years of garbage in, garbage out, from Regier. The old 17 yr Cicada has certainly fooled/conned an extremely naive and gullible Terry Pegula - how can anyone think this guy, who's been there for 17 years, holds the keys to success now when he never has before? It's irrational to do so. So obviously Pegula is himself ready for another 2 or 3 crappy years with Regier because it's part of 'rebuilding'.... and then *maybe* the team will be better. By that time Regier will be over 20 years as GM..... what an absolute joke in the NHL the Sabres will be as a franchise - they're in the downward spiral like the Bills.
-
I only watched a couple minutes of it - long enough to see Lucic get punched in the grill and put in the box for 5 minutes by a much smaller Chris Neil. Glad that the Senators won... I don't dislike Boston too much I guess. :)
-
Haha, It was more of a facetious question. Usually only Buffalo teams can make everyone else marvel and scratch their heads at the new and unique ways they can find to lose big time. I wonder if that's ever happened in NHL history - where a team has the number 1 and 2 points scorers, and hasn't made the playoffs?
-
At least we're not Tampa Bay.... they have the two leading points scorers in the NHL - St. Louis and Stamkos....for a combined 117 points..... and STILL got eliminated from the post season. How can you do that?
-
I'm surprised the WGR article didn't mention shots against. Sabres had the worst SA/G in the league at 33.5 per game - Edmonton, the 2nd worst, was almost a full shot behind us in this dubious honor. Very hard for any team to advance to the post season where the goalie is getting tested that frequently.
-
I'm not optimistic at ALL. As long as Regier's greasy little finger prints are on the team, we go nowhere fast! I think the white cat is like Captain Cupcake - luckily we got rid of him. But unfortunately lots of other dead wood to trim out.
-
I usually go to a buddy's house to watch the Sabres (Dish doesn't carry them) - and he's said a couple times that if Chief Woodenlegs was off the roster earlier in the season, we probably would have made the playoffs. Other than the putrid Rangers game, the team seems to play better when he's not in the lineup - he's a turnover machine, and makes all kinds of stupid decisions with the puck that are just very, very hard to come back from. One of the TOP paid players on the roster - and he finished the season with 39 GP, only 3 goals and 8 points - and a -8 on the plus/minus. That's horrible - and one of the reasons the Sabres aren't competitive - you've got two top paid players - allegedly "stars" - Stafford and Myers, combined for a 'whopping' 9 goals, 24 points, and - 24!!!!! A couple seriously Sad Sacks right there - and about as useful as tits on a boar.

Miller had no shutouts this year - 44 other goalies in the NHL so far have. It's the first time in his career that he's been skunked on shut-outs in a season playing 5 or more games. Here are his shutouts over the years 2012 - 6 (61 games) 2011 - 5 (66 games) 2010 - 5 (69 games) 2009 - 5 (59 games) 2008 - 3 (76 games) 2007 - 2 (63 games) 2006 - 1 (48 games) 2004 - 0 (but he only played 3 games) 2003 - 1 (15 games) So in previous years, 460 games played and 28 SOs. So prior to 2013, he's averaged a SO every 16 games. He should have had at least 2 this year based on his long term average - Enroth only played 8 games, yet managed to put up a SO. Is it a sign of decline?

Well guess the forum is up. Ennis apparently likes to pass instead of shoot -

Well Vanek has already made a dangerous turnover and fanned twice on the puck. -
Well, now he's got some kind of "lung injury" on top of everything else.

The Red Wings have kept their GM, Holland almost as long as 17 Year Regier... however, they've also been in the playoffs every one of those years and won the cup 3 times in that span. I look at these stats and it makes me so angry that the franchise is run so ineptly, it's so typical for anything in Buffalo, and Pegula has a big wallet and no clue he's getting conned by "The Hockey Genius" Regier sucks!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Yeah, that's true. I was surprised they didn't screw Ott on that, especially given the earlier penalty.
-
Awesome awesome win. Screw the meaningless draft picks - nothing will really change anyways until Pegula comes to realize what everyone else in sports journalism and the fanbase takes as common knowledge, and Regier is gone. Hope they make it 2 for 2 with another win Friday night at First Niagara. The fans deserve a win. I was watching at a friend's house last night so I didn't see the forum.... but..... Should have been FIVE to 2. Sabres got a screwing on that no-goal. Maybe 5 -1 if Miller hadn't let in that softee.
-
I think if Regier stays, Miller is gone. Unfortunately, I think it's bye-bye Ryan. Pegula is just a glutton for continued punishment.
