So much for Latvia's hopes. Sigh! Girgensons' shows his Sabres affiliation - he shoots straight for the goalie's chest. Must be Stafford taught him that one. :(

Looks like Team USA brought their A game today. I've pretty much switched over to Canada/Latvia. I'm recording both so I can watch the USA game later uninterrupted.

Brutal shot disparity - 30 to 8. At least Buzzard-beaked Bergeron took a shot to the back of the head at the Latvian net - and he doesn't have Chara's skirts to go hide behind. LOL now a slashing call against St. Louis for slashing at Girgs. That's the first time Latvia had taken the puck into Canada's zone in at least 4 minutes of game clock.

Holy cow, even sandbagging at the end - Latvia ALMOST got a breakaway shot on goal. I can't believe it's tied after 1 period.

I heard one of the NBC commentators mention in the 3rd period "You can bet the Finns were watching the U.S team strategy against Russia, and taking pointers" or something to that effect.

Didn't realize that Nolan was coaching Latvia. Wow! Although looking at Team Latvia's roster - I don't think they have a prayer against Canada. Canada's roster is full of NHL super-stars, including 3 from the powerhouse Blackhawks. The only NHL'er on the Latvian team is Girgensons. Oh, well.... at least Ted Nolan will feel right at home coaching a underdog talent-challenged team. Can anybody on that Latvian roster be worse than Ville Leino?
