It's pretty much a done deal now.... 3-0 Team Canada well into the 3rd period. The Fat-Lady is warming up...
-
Here's Toews' achievements so far, copypasta from Wikipedia; he's been on 2 Stanley Cup winning Blackhawk teams. Amazing, but he could even improve from where he is now. World U-17 Hockey Challenge MVP — 2005 World U-17 Hockey Challenge — 2005 WCHA Rookie of the Week — twice in 2005–2006 NCAA West Regional MVP — 2006 World Junior All-Star Team — 2007 Nominated for the Calder Memorial Trophy — 2008 NHL All-Star Game — 2009, 2011, 2012* All-Star selection of the 2010 Olympic Hockey Tournament[26] 2010 Winter Olympics — Best Forward[26] 2010 Stanley Cup Champion 2010 Conn Smythe Trophy winner Second-youngest to win the Conn Smythe Trophy (22 years, 41 days; only Patrick Roy was younger); youngest Captain to win the Conn Smythe Trophy. Youngest person to gain entry into the Triple Gold Club (22 years, 41 days at time last component was achieved) Named full captain of an NHL team after only 64 NHL games; fourth youngest full captain (Landeskog, Crosby, Vincent Lecavalier) in NHL history and quickest by games One of only six players to win Olympic gold and the Stanley Cup in the same year. 2013 Frank J. Selke Trophy winner 2013 NHL Second All-Star Team 2013 Stanley Cup Champion

Some teams have all the luck.... or all the skill..... in recruiting, drafting, trading, etc. Boston had Tim Thomas - the Conn Smythe winning goalie - in the net for their Stanley Cup win 2 years ago. Now they have Tukka Rask..... not a bad 'backup' goalie.
-
Yeah, Tukka is a game-changer. Finland looked unbeatable yesterday with him in the crease.
-
Terrible play by Ericsson led to the Crosby breakaway - you can't skate thru 2 or 3 players of the caliber that were ahead of him - dump it in, don't try to play it.
-
Amazing also, in looking back at the box scores - the LASTgoal that Team Canada has given up was WAY back at the 16 minute mark of the 1st period of the quarterfinal against Latvia. Canada's played 130 minutes of hockey against some of the best players in the world without surrendering a goal. That's pretty epic.
-
There's a reason the Blackhawks are one of the best teams in the NHL, and they've got 3 Blackhawk starters on the team - Toews, Sharp and Keith.
-
And for some of them - it will likely be their final chance at the Olympics (thinking of Chu.... I think she's almost 40 now).
-
I don't believe Kane scored even one goal in the entire tourney. The commentators wondered if the frustration and disappointment from the Olympics could affect Kane's play when he returns to the Blackhawks mid-week.

Great looking car, Zappa. They're scarce as hen's teeth these days. I've never seen one at a show.
-
American team didn't even act interested. I think all they cared about was the gold. I couldn't watch it straight thru, but the bits and pieces I did see were awful. I recorded the game but doubt I will even bother watching. That was a fugly outing. At least only 3 more days until the NHL season starts again.
-
Pantera? Those were nice back in the day! According to Wikipedia, some 7200 were built, but I see never see one at car shows. Pretty rare
-
That's what you're saying. I'm saying that it may very well be an indicator that his performance is in decline, as it inevitably will with age. At 34 he's no spring chicken. In my opinion, I don't think he's quite as sharp as he was 4 years ago. I also think it's possible the American Olympic coaching staff thought similarly, that he's not the goalie he was 3 or 4 seasons ago - hence he gave the overwhelming majority of starts to Quick.
-
Enroth would have had to get a shut-out to have made a difference-but they say shut-outs don't matter and aren't important. So never-mind. .
-
Wow! RIP, Tim!
-
Well at least they scored more goals against the Canadian team than Team USA. This is a good "What If?" How well would these Olympic teams stack up in the NHL? Would the losing quarterfinal teams be bottom 5 in the NHL? Would the 4 teams playing in today's semi-finals - would they be below average NHL teams? I honestly don't know, just thinking it's an interesting question..
-
They don't matter specifically because it's a statistic that Miller falls off the radar screen in, because he hasn't achieved one in years. But I'm quite confident that those stating it isn't important - if Miller were within the top ten in that stat - they would use it to demonstrate how good Miller is.
-
Shut outs don't matter at all.... except when they matter... like in the Canada/US game today. Of course that wasn't an important game or anything..... Oh, and also.... I bet if Miller had earned 4 or 5 shutouts a season for the last couple years... we'd be hearing that it was another indicator that Miller was great from some of the same who contest it doesn't make any difference at all.
-
General Patton said it best - "I could give a hoot in Hell for a man who could lose.... and laugh about it!" I think everybody should be pissed off - it's the American way. Also as Patton said "Americans play to win... ALL the time!!!" and "Losing is HATEFUL to Americans!" And just up 2-0 at the end of the first period, or at the halfway point, or at the start of the 3rd. They were up 2-0 with 220 seconds left in the game. Especially in such an important game, that is a collapse of just unimaginable proportions. The media should really rip into that coaching staff.
-
I still think the women's loss yesterday was a factor in energizing the Canadian team today, who could ride the coattails of that huge Canadian comeback and maybe demoralizing the US men's a smidgen?
-
And Kessel & VanRiemsdyk did nothing to overcome the perception of them being members of a choke-happy team.
-
I felt like I was watching Sabres hockey
-
31 shots faced for Price too.
-
Price with a SHUT-OUT against Team USA. That was a sad effort by Team USA. Unbelievable. Well, I'm done watching the Olympics. At least we have NHL hockey again in 4 days.
-
I wished, oh, how I wished... that the Sabres could be replaced, almost to a man, by the Latvian team.
