Wow, this is great listening to RJ. His voice is a little off - but he's been thru hell. And who was Mezzaros passing to? He just flipped the puck across to the other side of the ice and Toronto picked it up. WTF!!!???

Great topic, PA - thanks for starting it! That's a great one right there! RJ at the top of HIS game too. And imagine when we're NOT tanking any more. :)
-
It did NOT take the Chicago Blackhawks that many years to field a competitive team. Also, GMTM has stated it would not be that many years until the team is competitive. If we're still tanking in 2016, I would declare the GMTM rebuild a failure.
-
If Nolan is serious about this tank, why not keep playing Enroth? Giving up 4 goals in one period is the sort of performance we need to stay at the bottom. The draw here - and the reason I'll be watching - RJ commentating in the 1st period. I hope T-Peg gives him something nice for Christmas - this is an early Christmas present to the fans from RJ. :)

Not to mention - he's getting play calls on a regular basis from Marrone's college buddy, Hackett, and he has a terrible offensive line that routinely gives him poor protection. He's a decent QB. Not great but decent. So far he protects the ball well too, which I rarely see mentioned - he's only given up 3 picks in 228 attempts. That's one of the best ratios of interceptions to pass attempts in the NFL.
-
Yup - never going to be any real progress in improving the Bills until the remnants of the Wilson Regime (Whaley, Brandon) are gone.

Fire EVERYONE and put an ad in the Buffalo News - "NFL Players wanted - salary commensurate with experience and ability" And a second ad - "NFL Team in need of managers and coaches. Serious inquiries only to....." ;)

This is great news! Jeez, the telecasts this year seem as flat and lifeless as the on-ice product.

What I said at that time - after observing Hodgson for a number games - was that Captain Creampuff and Hodgson shared softness in common. Hodgson possessed far less shooting/scoring ability than Pominville. It was like we went out and replaced a soft Pominville with a even softer, far less skilled version of him - hence my term - Pominville Ver 2.0. There is nothing ABOUT Hodgson that's as good as Pominville. That's what I said way back when. And it's still true today. "CoHo" is awful, and I don't see it changing. -
Hackett is one of Marrone's "boyz". It's gonna take T-Peg or someone higher up the feeding chain to get rid of him.

Well, it could be truthfully said(if perhaps a smidgen intellectually dishonest) that the team has really turned around under Pegula's ownership. ;)

You know, I took a lot of heat on these forums last season for, early on, deeming Hodgson as Pominville Ver 2.0 - a creampuff who unfortunately doesn't have Pominville's scoring or hockey skills. Same softness - less output and production. Do I deserve an apology? ;) -

It was either the 1st or 2nd Minnesota goal - Hodgson was just sauntering along behind the Minnesota rush on our goal. He's got no guts and is lazy. A soft player who belongs either with Regier or Ruff's team. Q: - what do the Titanic and the Sabres have in common? A: - Both sit at the bottom of the Atlantic. ;) -

I'm just going by the Gold Bar Standard of Rebuilds - Chicago - After a lot of debate in the Tank Thread, it seemed like most would equate the Sabres 2014-15 season with the 2006-07 Blackhawks season. 2007-08 - they improved substantially to a winning record - but didn't qualify for playoffs. 2008-09 - they made it deep into the playoffs 2009-10 - they won the Cup. Worst case, this is equivalent of the Blackhawks 2005-06 season. That puts the first playoff season out to 2017-18.

The only good thing to be said of this game - we're one game closer to the end of the Tank. Next year, a competitive, winning season, and the year after - perhaps our first run at the Cup?

LOL - then a 2 goal lead must look like flippin Mt Everest especially for a team averaging ~ 1.1 goals per game. I was listening to the intermission report on the radio on the drive home - someone said the Sabres did a good job of hanging with the Blues in period 1. I thought to myself - they have PLENTY of time to fall to pieces, tire out, etc. Finally, these GDTs are getting shorter and shorter. Only 2 pages so far for this one. If the Sabres continue to tank at this pace, we'll be lucky to have 1 full page of posts by the New Year.

I like to watch the stats to see how healthy the Tank is; Total Goals - 18 after 16 games - worst in the league by a comfortable 2 goal margin Goals for/Game - continuing to be the worst in the NHL - average is now 1.13, and the gap between Buffalo and the next worst team has incresased to 0.54 goals. Goals Against - worst in the league by a two goal margin GF/Goals Against differential - a league worst -2.19 goals. Buffalo's goal in this has widened to over a goal per game against the next worst team Shots for per game - 22.3 - worst in the league - a staggering 4.3 shot per game gap over the next worst team in the league Shots against per game - 37.4 - again, worst in the league by a 2.2 shot margin Shots for/Shots against differential - by FAR the worst in the league at -15.2 differential. We're almost 10 shots worse than the next worst team in the league. Goals against per game - just about the only stat we aren't the worst in - we're only 4th worst, and we're 0.32 goals against out of last place. I blame Neuvirth - the front office should direct Nolan to play Enroth more frequently. Or maybe bring Patrick Lalime back? Sloppier goal-tending would also help the other stats considerably. At any rate, Buffalo is the worst of the league in 7 out of 8 stats, and by a comfortable margin on most of them. A little attention to goal tending, and Buffalo could be 8 for 8. GMTM's tank appears to be a Tank for the Ages.
-
That was pretty ugly. The Sabres were outscored by, what, 11 to 1 in the past two games against the Penguins? The two teams don't even look to be in the same league. Hopefully, NEXT October we'll start to see some improvement in the post-Tank era.
-
And a very good point. If anyone on the other team is looking for trouble or a fight, they'll find it ready and on tap with Mike Weber. You need a few players like that on any team, almost irrespective of skill level.
-
Yeah, my instinct is that Neuvirth is more solid in net than Enroth. I think if Enroth had been goal-tending against Detroit and Montreal, they would have been zero-point losses.
