  1. Well, sometime today he made it! I expected to see his name up in lights or a special custom name or similar. Nada.
  2. Thanks for posting the link. My favorite part of that article; "Players and coaches are in the trenches here. Obviously. They're playing for professional pride and contracts and to not get fired. You expect maximum effort from them and you typically get it, even if they know how much of a slog this season was always going to be. But if you ice a roster of bottom-six AHLers against NHL teams, they can try all they want; they're going to get slaughtered. Buffalo hasn't taken it to that extreme, but to look at this roster and think it was designed to do anything besides lose as many games as possible specifically to get elite young talent through the draft. And remember, they have three first-round picks and two more in the second this year thanks to the Islanders and Blues — following five first-round picks and seven more in the second over the last three drafts — so there are a lot of bullets in that chamber." We've been saying this for a while - it doesn't matter if the team is trying to win - if they lack the talent to do so, then the inevitable outcome is losing. Heck, we could take a bunch of Forum members, suit em up, make them the new Sabres; everyone would want to win, but it ain't happening.
  3. Enroth appears to be getting visibly frustrated with the poor defense. The 2nd worst team in the NHL scored 5 against Buffalo, and outshot the Sabres by a +11 differential. We're still not good enough at being bad. We're still one point ahead of Carolina, and we've gained nothing on Edmonton which remains 4 points behind us. If we're going to Tank, then Tank. Don't screw around!
  4. Didn't Nix depart before Pegula became the owner? EDIT - he apparently remained with the team as a "Special Assistant" until the end of the 2014 season. Apparently Whaley needed "training wheels" for a lengthy period. However, he only worked while T-Peg was owner for a few weeks and in a very diminished role. I can't see T-Peg giving him gushing thanks for his 80 hrs of service, or whatever it worked out to be.
  5. Oh, yeah.....Hodgson is a wonderful player, he's a terrific player.... FOR US TO POOP ON!!!!
  6. They should call up Ville Leino (we're paying him for nothing this year - same as last year) and put him on the same line with Benoit and The Mess. That would really help.
  7. I hope they don't "Peter Principle" Schwartz up to HC. Give him enough money to make him happy to stay as DC - he seems great at that; his track history as HC not so much; 29-51.
  8. He was sandbagging in December..... maybe he wanted to make liars of us all? LOL
  9. Classic!!!!! Tonight, the Race To The Bottom begins. May the worst team lose!
  10. I got the final snidely comment in on the omnibus 2014 topic. I should take the rest of the day off.
  11. The shot differential was only a -7 for the Sabres in this game. That's nearly 2x better than their seasonal average, believe it or not.
  12. I think Cutler would play the part of the woman in that pairing. LOL
  13. Yeah, I'd much rather have a Kim Pegula-led committee designing the football team, rather than the vision of a Belichick or a Parcells type individual. LOL Designed by Committee is slang for mediocrity.
  14. Wonder when Derek Jeter will get in? In a sane world - he'd be inducted THIS year.
  15. Perhaps the moderators have broken his spirit and he's just a shell of his former self?
  16. A good HC candidate would undoubtedly think Schwartz is dynamite, and want to keep him. But I still think he should be given the flexibility to make that choice. I couldn't see a Parcells or a Belichick caliber coach taking over as HC with the marketing guy telling them during the signing "hey, you have to retain......"
  17. IF that's true, and head coach interviewees are being told they're stuck with the current staff.... that's a formula for disaster. HC needs to be able to choose his own coaching staff. No good coaches would come here under those restrictions - only bottom of the shelf need apply. Buffalo is a hard enough sell as it is, without making it less attractive.
  18. Yup - long term, our team stats through the first half of the season indicate a solid last place finish for the year, and by a comfortable margin. Third from the last is a temporary aberration - we'll get there.
  19. I was out last night - and missed seeing this one. It's recorded, but.... given the score and the comments here, I think I won't waste any time on it. Sounds painful to watch.
  20. If we really want to get to the bottom as quickly as possible, I say bring back the sieve-like Lalime as a goalie, or equivalent. The only thing keeping us from being mind-bogglingly bad is good net-minding by Enroth and Neuvirth.
  21. I saw "Joe B." and I immediately thought of Pegula's enforcer and stooge - Joe Battista. Good to know we're just talking about an idiot sports journalist instead. Whew! Kid Hackett? Really? What a maroon.
  22. ...... it means we'll still be stuck with him 3 years from now. LOL Maybe we should start topics like "I hope Cody Hodgson NEVER leaves!!!" or "Please, please stay with us, Drew"?
  23. Amazingly, with the worst shot differential in the league, the fewest goals for in the league, the most goals against, and 5 losses in a row, we're STILL 4 points out of the cellar, and 3rd worst (Carolina and Edmonton have fewer points. A regulation loss to the Canes would help, but we'd still be one point ahead of Carolina. That's if being the very worst team is the goal. How can you be the worst team in the aforementioned stats and not comfortably be Numero Uno worst in points? LOL We fail at everything. LOL http://espn.go.com/nhl/standings/_/group/1
  24. That's a good point - the name of the coach is immaterial - as long as he can help build and run a winning organization. And that raises an area of concern with Brandon's involvement in the decision making process..... there's a good chance, bean-counter that he is, that Brandon will be looking at it as a MARKETING decision with a short term payback- i.e., what name will put the most fans in the seats next season? The focus should be only on who will build a championship winning team - and nothing else.
