  1. That was one big positive to Lameo. At least when he was hurt, he didn't *hurt* the team, in fact, the team was better off without him on the roster. Hodgson however, is dependable and healthy dead weight, like a millstone hung reliably about the Sabres' collective neck.
  2. I would much more prefer to see him on another team's roster, rather than dragging it out another season.,
  3. At least they have better SVG% than the goalies in this year's All-Star Game which ranged between .778 to .563. There was about the same quality (or lack of?) in defense in that All-Star game vs a typical 2014-15 Sabres game. Players skated right in and took a shot - not much difference between All-Star Defense and Sabres Defense. Maybe Enroth and Neuvirth should have been goalies in the All-Star game? They're more used to almost zero defense than the 'star' goalies. They might have shut down a lot of that rampant scoring. ;)
  4. It also hasn't helped that Hogsdon, whose performance for the first couple years was like that of a softer, less effective and less productive version of Jason Pominville, has now morphed into Ville Leino Ver. 2.0 this season, and actually posting fewer points so far than even Leino did last season. Nolan will put Hodgson out there on the PP, and it's like it's 4 on 4 hockey. The guy floats around, gets rid of the puck like it's a hot-potato, in Leino-esque style.
  5. I'm almost sorry I looked at those numbers...... We're tied with Philly with the MOST PPGA at 42. But Philly also has the 3rd most PPG in the league - 38! So it's not even a competition between the Sabres and Philly. We're above and by far the WORST in PPG, at an awful 13! the next worst team is Florida with 17. To put this in perspective, the best team in this stat, Detroit, has 44 PPGs, or more than THREE TIMES as many as Buffalo. It doesn't help that Buffalo is 3rd worst in the league in Penalty Minutes with over 12 minutes average per game. Combine an awful number of PIM with terrible defense, and it's a formula for disaster. Ugh! Oh, and I should add... our differential.... ie, PPG - PPGA, is by far the worst in the league at minus 29!!!! That is just brutal. It's hard to grasp how bad this team really is.
  6. Yup. lmao!!!! This topic makes me think of some lyrics from the Beatles' song - "Back in the USSR" "Well the Ukraine girls really knock me out They leave the West behind And Moscow girls make me sing and shout That Georgia's always on my my my my my my my my my mind"
  7. I hadn't checked the team page at ESPN in a couple weeks. I'd been looking at goal and shot differential, and the points standing and that's what I'd been discussing. I didn't realize our PK and PP had totally tanked, and was officially the WORST.
  8. Was checking the Sabres' team page at ESPN - we're now dead last in the main stats; 30th in goals for, 30th in goals against, 30th in PP %, and 30th in PK. Not to mention dead last in the points standing. LOL!!!! I'm the worst, just like the Sabres. It's fitting, no? ;)
  9. At -11, he has the 2nd best plus-minus of all the Sabres' D-men (at least those who've played more than a dozen games this season). Soooo, it may help the Tank to suspend him for a few games. At least that's a positive we could take away from this.
  10. I hope Buffalo comes off the All-Star Break flat as pancake; and sets new records for offensive and defensive futility.
  11. The 'Hawks GF/GA in 2008 was 239-235 Whereas in 2007, it was 201-258 08-09, they jumped up to 264-216. But that's also the first year that Joe Quenneville came aboard. They made some great moves in the 2007 off-season! Let's hope GMTM can work similar magic with all his chess-pieces.
  12. I looked a little deeper - at the carry over players (23 of them) from the Blackhawks' 2007 to 2008 roster The difference is a bit more significant 2007 - those players combined for 100 goals and 268 player points. 2008, those same players combined for 141 goals, and 356 points. That's an aggregate improvement of 41 goals, and 88 points! So the net change across the roster was an increase of 39 goals scored, and 108 player point increase. I will have to look to see how many games were played by the carry-over players. But an increase of 40 goals and 108 points would definitely increase a team's wins.
  13. Thanks for reopening this topic. I took another look at the Blackhawk roster changes from their final tank season to the start of their winning ways. There were 22 players pruned from the roster in the 2007 offseason These cut players had, in 2006-07, the final "tank" year, combined for 95 goals and 251 points The 'Hawks added 20 new players for the 2007-08 season. These players combined for 93 goals, but for 271 points. So there was a net loss of 2 goals, but an increase in 20 points, for the roster changes. The cut players averaged 4.3 goals over the season, and 11.4 points The added players averaged 4.7 goals over the season, and 13.6 points Doesn't seem 'night and day' to me, but it is an improvement. Can 20 player points make the difference between a winning and losing season?
  14. Personally, I'd rather see the older, information rich topics left open and close the new, less established topics, but that's you folks decision.
  15. I took a few minutes to compare the roster of the 2006-7 Blackhawks to the 2007-08 team. In yellow are the changes - nearly 1/2 the roster changed in the off season. The most notable additions were Kane and Toews. Hopefully we see major changes like this for 2015-16 in the Sabres roster, perhaps even more sweeping changes? Blackhawks 2007-08 roster.htm
  16. Like Nix DIDN'T yet grok the Bills needed a quarterback a year or two earlier? Because Fitz is all ya need! LOL BTW, The Hoodie threw Cry-baby Brady under the bus - LOLOLOL!!!! He knows NOTHINK!!!! Ask Tom!!! http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/01/bill-belichick-deflate-tom-brady-cheat-super-bowl-press-conference
  17. The Cheatriots' newest scandal is the headline at ESPN.... http://espn.go.com/boston/story/_/id/12202450/nfl-says-new-england-patriots-had-inflated-footballs-afc-championship-game
  18. I have read numerous comments above arguing the pros and cons of including Tank-related comments in the GDTs Out of respect to the sensitivities of fellow Sabres fans upset over the inclusion of Tank-comments, I promise to not mention the Tank in any posts I make on GDTs until after the All-Star Break.
  19. Astonishing that a former Bills head coach can't get a job as HC somewhere else. LOL Either Buffalo is a big meat grinder that chews those HCs up and makes them unmarketable, or, Buffalo historically just picks from the bottom shelf and tries to spin it and market it (Brandon) into the next big thing! Anyone remember Chan Gailey? LOL!!!
  20. We'd have to look at Chicago's roster in the final tank season, and see what changes were made in the off season; ie, how many pieces did they already have signed, and how many were added. I'm not sure how we would compare. Obviously there are only a handful of players on the current Sabres roster that are reasonably part of a competitive future.
  21. LOL - Hogsdon has done it - he actually has fewer points and a worse plus/minus at the All-Star Break than did Ville Leino last year! Hodgson - 7 points, plus minus of -19 after 46 games played Leino - 10 points, plus minus of -10, after 38 games. WTF!!!! He's played in EIGHT more games than Leino did at last year's All-Star Break, and still 3 fewer points!!! LOL!!!!!
  22. Yes, they're 11-0 over the last 10 games. Amazing. ;) If we play Hodgson, Gorges, and The Mess for 25 minutes per game, we should be able to do it.
  23. Chicago turned around FAST after they completed their tank. They didn't make the playoffs in the first post-tank season, but they posted a winning record. The 2nd post-tank season, they became serious Cup contenders, and have been one of the top teams since.
