IF our tank and rebuild is only half as successful as Chicago's, it means we'll win "only" 1 Stanley cup in the next 6 seasons, "only" make the conference finals twice in 7 seasons, and "only" make the playoffs 4 times in 7 seasons Chicago is in their 7th consecutive postseason, during that span they've made the Conference Final 5 times, and won 2 Stanley Cups (not including this year which is over yet). That's where we need to be.

off topic Killer of 4 wears Sabres cap during interview

Probably a handout from the mission. Maybe the Sabres donated a bunch of hats to the homeless shelters? -

It's nice to have a Miller Topic/Debate/Conversation/Argument just for old time's sake. :) -

I would get angry at the weak criminal justice system in Canada - but I honestly can't say our criminal justice system is any better here in NYS.... we let both William Spengler and Arthur Shawcross out early, and without supervision. That ended well, huh? Spengler beat his elderly, legally blind grandmother to death with a hammer - and got out afeter 17 years. Shawcross incredibly served only 12 years for the vicious rape and murder of two small children. -

Miller's stats from the final game Saturday against the Flames. His earlier games were much better, but this was something of a collapse. .839 SVG% 5 Goals against 26 saves Wonder if Miller's wife had something scheduled for them to attend this week that the Canucks continuing in the playoffs might have interfered with? :P Last year he seemed happy after the Blues got knocked out of the playoffs in the first round that he could attend his sister in law's wedding. ;) -
Yep. Murray comes across as a hockey purist. The Lottery has a carnival atmosphere to it; done just for ratings mostly. I love that GMTM doesn't pull punches, and that his criticisms are usually pretty hard-hitting. In this case it may seem like a case of sour grapes because Buffalo lost, but .... I wager he might have said similar about the process even had Buffalo won the lottery.
-
^^^^LOL!!!!!
-
Bottom 5 next year is unacceptable. Murray has all the chess pieces now - if he can't deliver, at least a winning season or a break even season(albeit likely no playoffs) then Murray needs to share in the accountability. Let's hope we NEVER have this discussion for real. Cherry & Milbury should have a show together.
-
Murray sounds like he's acclimating to life in Buffalo; becoming accustomed and numbed by/to disappointment. Last year he was all optimistic in the hours before the Lottery; "I want to win SOMETHING" he said enthusiastically. Welcome to Buffalo, Tim. LOL

This topic is pure UGH!!!! now. :(

It's EVERYTHING to do with Buffalo. Look how well Edmonton has managed in the lottery in the past 6 years. Bottom line - Eichel is good. McDavid is better. We came in 2nd best yet again.
-
Well, Buffalo loses again. How can anyone say there isn't a sports curse on Buffalo? Somehow, Edmonton wins 4 out of 6 years, and Buffalo has the best percentage and still can't pull it off. I remember last year on Lottery Day, GMTM intoned...."I want to win something"..... As I said at the time, GMTM best get used to losing if he stays in Buffalo - winning is just not the Buffalo way. Always star-crossed.
-
I'm sticking with the Blackhawk model to gauge success - an above .500 record in 2015-16, then getting into the playoffs (wildcard?) in 2016-17. IF they squeak into the Wildcards in 2015-16 (not holding my breath) it would be successful beyond expectations.
-
Yeah, that's the only stat where Hog-head exceeds Leino. But, looking at the entire picture, Hodgson is definitely Bottom Shelf for 2015.

So, is Miller elite? *runs and hides* -
At last its here! Wonder last night if GMTM was nestled all snug in his bed, with dreams of McDavid or Eichel dancing in his head?
-
Final comparison of Hodgson's 2015 season to Leino's last as a Sabre. Hodgson - 78 games played 6 goals, - 13 points, +/- - 28, PPG 0, PPA, 0, TOI/G - 12:51, PROD - 77:05, Total time on ice - 1002 minutes Leino - 58 games played, 0 goals, 15 points, +/- -16, PPG 0, PPA 6, TOI/G - 14:26, PROD -55:49 - Total time on ice - 837 minutes. So Hodgson played 20 more games than Leino, logged 160 more minutes on the ice, and stll somehow produced 2 fewer points, and ZERO PPA, vs 6 for Leino, and a gawd awful productivity stat of 77:05, 21 minutes longer than even Leino. Leino's lack of productivity was legendary in 2014, but somehow this Hodgson guy outdid him. This guy deserves his "Must Go" topic more than Leino did.

I believe that if GMTM honestly thought that Ted Nolan is a coach with the ability to take the team to the Stanley Cup finals, then Ted Nolan would still have his job. Obviously, that is not the case.
-
I agree. Cold and calculating often gets good results. There was already a lot of pressure on GMTM; this adds to it I suppose, a bit. GMTM has EVERYTHING he wanted now; team dismantled, and even more of the roster sent packing over the summer - he's got oodles of draft picks, and the Tank was 100% successful. Now, the expectation is to start winning and not look back, and build the wins up to playoff appearance in April 2017. IF it doesn't turn around this fall, GMTM will start taking a lot of heat. This will be a 100% GMTM team moving forward - both players and coaching.
-
Well, that lack of strategic thinking on Nolan's part shows why Nolan wasn't a good long term fit for the team. Why would he be pissed? This was a throwaway year - how could he not understand the Tank or be onboard with it? I'm inclined to think GMTM has a VERY solid candidate all but locked up, or the firing wouldn't be this quick.
