  1. The Sharks won last night against Detroit, but I'd put that onto a poor game by Jimmy Howard playing back-up in net as opposed to the Sharks' playing well - the Sharks only made 14 shots in the game - and somehow Howard let 3 of them in. IF they only manage 14 or 15 shots against the Sabres, the Sabres win.
  2. Great solid win over a decent opponent. I'm liking this rebuild.
  3. First Sabres game I've watched in at least a month. Wonderful!!! This team is day and night improved from years past. GMTM is building a fine team - and I think we have good stuff to look forward to in the years to come.
  4. Good strong finish to the month - back up to 4-7, we threw a monkey-wrench in Philly's winning ways (they're now down to 4-4) and Toronto is now at the bottom of the Atlantic. For comparison, we were 2-9 in October 2014; and this team look a lot more solid. Good stuff. I would have liked to have seen 5-6 or 6-6 for the month, but we'll take the progress.
  5. But the gap is really small - 2 wins more for Chicago after 10 - Buffalo could easily close that and the win against hated Philly was a nice one!
  6. Interesting question about the quality of Chicago's opponents - so I checked their October opponents records for the 2007-08 Season for the first 10 games of the season October 2007 Chicago played The Wild, who won their division that season. L Chicago Red Wings - played twice - 2 wins, Chicago. Red Wings were Stanley Cup champs that season San Jose - L Chicago - San Jose won the Pacific division Dallas - W Chicago. Dallas didn't win any titles, but had a winning record that year - 45-30-7 Boston - L Chicago - Boston posted a winning record - 41-29-12. St Louis - L - Chicago - St. Louis posted a losing record for the 2007-08 season Colorado - W- Chicago - Colorado came in 2nd in the Northwest Division - 44-31-7 Toronto - W -Chicago - Toronto was sucky as usual - 36-35-11 Columbus - L- Chicago - this was another loss to a team with a losing record - 34-36-12 So in their first 10 games, Chicago was .500 against some decent opposition, including 2 wins against the Stanley Cup winners that year, the Red Wings, 1 Win against the Stars who had a winning record for the season, a win against Colorado which also had a winning record. 3 of their 5 losses were to teams with winnings records for the season. And Chicago had a MASSIVE rebuild in the off season similar to Buffalo's - it was a Tank And Rebuild just like Buffalo. And, Chicago didn't have Joe Quenneville as HC yet either. So that's why I plan to continue to compare the 2015-16 Sabres to the 2007-08 Blackhawks; with Chicago we have an immensely successful tank and rebuild to compare our results to. So, after 10 games Blackhawks - 5-5-0, 27 goals for, 29 goals against Sabres - 3-7-0, 23 goals for, 34 against. That -11 goal differential is telling, vs Chicago's -2 differential after 10 games. I'm going to have to plug all this into a spreadsheet - will make keeping a running tally easier.
  7. Really? When I read Watkins asking for the ball more often, I wondered how that would work out, given being prone to injuries and the beating that receivers take making catches. Didn't surprise me at all when he ended up sidelined again - I would have been more surprised frankly had he endured. The only surprising aspect to me - how quickly he did get injured - I thought it would take 2 or 3 games with him being fed more passes. And I'm on the outside, looking in. How wouldn't the coaching staff have similar concerns as mine? Although I can also see the coaches thinking they need to learn if he can hack it in the NFL- I'm honestly thinking the answer is "no" until I see him put together a string of 4 or 5 games where he's a contributor.
  8. I have a problem with him going public with it. Poor decorum to criticize the coach's play calls in public, especially for a guy who just came out of his rookie year. And perhaps the coaching staff is concerned about his injuries and didn't want to feed him the ball as much as Watkins might want because they feared he would end up injured? (and he did). That seems like a logical concern for the coaches; even though he played in all the games last season he was banged up most of the year. It might be wiser to save him for "down the road" when the team actually has a genuine quarterback on the roster, and has a chance of post-season accomplishments?
  9. The fact he made such a public (and embarrassing) whiny stink about not getting thrown enough passes, and then ends up on the DL (again!) almost immediately when the Bills try to placate him.... that only magnifies the scorn.
  10. I hated DISH. Was stuck with it for 2 years - never again.
  11. The ongoing comparison of the Tank/Rebuilds at 8 games into the season; Chicago Blackhawks - 2007 - 5-3-0, 22 goals for, 19 goals against Sabres 2-6-0, 16 goals for, 27 goals against.
  12. I know - and the Patriots got demolished by the Bills in the first game of 2003 31-0, and went on to earn a 14-2 record, and a Superbowl win and the Bills were 6-10. But again, that's the Patriots - not the Bills. I'm just adding in an awful loss to a terrible opponent to the mix of everything else that's bad, and been bad, about this team. The team is performing worse this year than last year - and they didn't even make the playoffs last year. It makes me laugh to even think about them earning a playoff berth as dysfunctional as they appear.
  13. Today was one of those 'must win' games for the Bills to have any real chance of making the playoffs. The Bills can't afford to throw away wins against poor teams. I was just looking at their remaining schedule and trying to see where those 6 or 7 wins would come from; and I'm not seeing it. Besides, they lost today to arguably the worst team in the NFL; To me that makes discussing "playoffs" and the BIlls an "LOLWUT?" sort of thing. :)
  14. The Bills are looking more like last year's NY Jets than an improvement on Doug Marrone's winning season Bills of 2014; And EJ Manuel had a terrible game against an awful opponent - he's about as big a waste of a draft pick as Aaron Maybin was.
  15. Sabres are 3 games behind 500 now, and 4th from the bottom of the NHL in points. And still at the bottom of the Atlantic. Tied for 3rd worst in the league in Goals For. Their only 2 wins are against teams that, like the Sabres, are WELL below .500 themselves with an average WP of .071 Some improvements in Goals Against and Shots For - Sabres are mid-league in those stats. But so far the non-Tank season isn't looking much different than a tank season. That needs to change and this team needs to start producing and get some wins against decent teams, not just the bottom feeders like Toronto and Columbus.
  16. LOLOL!!!!! That is insane. Was Pagano paid to throw the game? That seems as plausible as trying to attribute it to any rational thought process on his part. It doesn't seem like any coach (or any person, coach or not) in their right mind could expect that garbage to work. Pagano might as well try to block a locomotive with a shopping cart - would make about as much sense.
  17. We should at least be clawing up towards .500; instead of taking up permanent, contented residence at the bottom of the Atlantic. Sabres are now 1 point behind Toronto at the bottom of the Atlantic... and are tied for 2nd worst in the Eastern Conference. Those are still tank-like numbers.
  18. And........ hurt again today after 48 yards and a touchdown catch. He is good - but durability a huge issue.
  19. Team needs to start posting some wins soon; right now Buffalo is only 5th from the bottom of the NHL; the non-Tank season isn't looking much different than the Tank season. Kane needs to start producing goals (and yeah, he was robbed of one by the officials) but 0 after 5 games isn't terrific. Just to compare to the Chicago Blackhawks first post-tank season - the Hawks went 6-6-0 in October 2007. They were also 3-2 by October 17th. It's early but Sabres need to turn it around. The expectation is that, no playoffs this year, but at a minimum a winning season.
  20. I expected Buffalo would start pulling away from Edmonton and would post at least one win over the past few days- but like the Titanic the Sabres sit at the bottom of the Atlantic. Sabres' record so far is ony marginally less dismal than Edmonton's
  21. I dunno..... if he is getting hurt running routes... what's gonna happen when he gets hit more often during catch attempts?
  22. Eichel is ahead so far; though in fairness McDavid is saddled with an awful team - there's only so much any single contributor can do.
  23. I usually always do better once most of the leaves are off the trees. I used to fly-fish in the faster water during the spawn, and then switch to egg-sacks and inline spinners in the deeper, slow pools post spawn. These days I've gotten lazy - I use Rapala Shad Raps in the slower sections (black and silver) with pretty decent results. Just writing about it is giving me cabin fever and wanting to get out there.
  24. I would love to see Sammy Watkins more central in the pass offense. One of the problems with the team over the past decade - there have been some good receivers without a decent QB to throw them the ball. But my worry is.... with his current time on the field, he's been injured a lot. Start playing him as much as he is asking - it's hard to believe he won't end up sidelined even more.
  25. It's like anything in life - there can be a number of motivating factors in any decision or purchase an individual makes. Buffalo is a nice city, beautiful region, and if Terry wants to be instrumental in revitalizing it, then more power to him. I also think he likes sports too.....which might be a small factor in his purchase - just a guess. :)
