  1. I thought we had enough big tough guys on the current roster (Ruff's soft-playing cream-puffs are history) that this wasn't an issue any more? You need guys out there that payback cheap hits and respect good clean hits. After a cheap hit - spear the guy in the GUT with the stick on his next shift or charge the goalie - that will learn em fast! Let em know we won't take it!!!
  2. Horrible game. The Goals Against have been brutal the past two games for the Sabres. Every good goalie has a bad game - but now we have 2 in a row for Lehner, His GAA for the past 2 seasons in Ottawa with 61 games played was 3.04. With the last two stinkburger games his GAA is up to 2.95; which aligns with his previous stats. Is a 3.0 GAA goalie good enough for a team planning on hitting the playoffs in 2017? Or is he just filler until somebody better comes along?

I figured we'd be around the 80 point mark for the season. We could still do it, I suppose. I don't think that's unrealistic; typically the worst teams in the NHL finish around the 70-73 point mark; last year's team should not be a benchmark for gauging improvement; it was a historically bad team; lots of poor players, and also also a situation where management was intentionally structuring the roster and gameplay TO lose. We should be gauging the Sabres against the worst in the league; we're still scraping bottom in that regard - one point ahead of the NHL's very worst 2/3rds pf the way thru the season isn't exactly a reason to feel warm fuzzies about the team's progress, IMHO. I kinda figured we'd be looking at ~20th place finish; not in danger of being 30th. Besides, is there any team that doesn't have a couple good or key players end up on the DL for part or all of the season? I'm not sure that's a good excuse for any team in any sport - hockey, football, baseball, etc, unless the player is a legendary superstar of some sort. Kane can't seem to hit the broadside of a barn when he shoots (he was embarrassed by Gionta in that skill competition - lol) and Ennis and Moulson are certainly not HOF timber.
  4. I agree with this, if penalties were called fairly and impartially against both teams. That does not seem to be the case. You mentioned Eichel....Remember in the previous Boston game one of the Boston D guys had poor Jack just about in a bear hug and had him bent double at the waist and he didn't even have control of the puck - somehow such a blatant penalty wasn't called by the blind as a bat officials. - but this was. It seems like by coincidence the penalty calls always seem to favor Boston; maybe I'm just being a homer?

Wow, the 2016 Tank competition is fierce well into the 2nd half of the season - Edmonton & Columbus tied with 47 points and 54 games played each, Toronto in the hunt with 47 points, but 3 fewer GPs (51) and Buffalo is in the thick of it too - 48 points with 53 GP. Buffalo has improved with their latest points streak - projecting out, 74 points for the season. That would still be a squalid and atrocious result, but looking better than it did a couple weeks ago when they looked like they'd struggle to hit 70 points.
  6. Myself, I'd like to see Milbury play the part of Jim Rome, and John play the role of Jim Everett in a reenactment of Jim's appearance on the Jim Rome Show. LOL
  7. ^^LOL
  8. They ought to hire him to replace that idiot Milbury.
  9. Yesterday was also the 3rd anniversary of this memorable John Scott moment when he played for the Sabres
  10. That had to stick in Bettman's craw - the NHL pressuring Scott to step down out of the All-Star game, and all the other maneuvering....I've no doubt it had his blessing. I love it!!! The NHL (Bettman?) tried to shame John into stepping down by implying his own kids would be ashamed of their father being in a game he didn't deserve to be in. Well, John Scott's kids have every reason to be PROUD of their father and the way he stepped up for the biggest game of his life!
  11. The All-Star games in the past have been boring - this new 3 on 3 tourney format makes it great fun to watch. Couple that with the John Scott story - best All-Star game ever!!!! John was tremendous out there - he played (literally) the game of his life; and silenced the NHL brass. LOL at weaselly little Gary Bettman being forced to present John with the check. John delivered, thru his deeds and rising to the occasion, a major FU to Bettman and Co. It was wonderful!
  12. That guy is such a biased scumbag - why they keep him on the air is beyond me.
  13. I don't think it was ever expected or stated by our F.O. that the Sabres would be flirting with last place in the league - again - especially well past the half-way point of the year. I think for the team to finish that low in the standings at the end of this season would be a major disappointment. Again, no one (rational) expected them to be a playoff contender, but I think most expected they'd be an 80-85 point team. They're improved from last two years, but they were intentionally tanking those years too, and were saddled with useless slugs like Leino and Hodgson. A 70 point pace is a 2nd, or 3rd worst team in the league pace in the majority of seasons.
  14. Here's the rookie tracker at NHL.com http://www.nhl.com/ice/rookies.htm Eichel is 3rd best in points, 3rd best in goals, and 4th best in points. Jack's definitely the real deal. Ullmark is 4th best in GAA, and 5th best in SV%. So there's some great reasons to be positive about the future, right there. The rookies ahead of them (Panarin, Larkin, et al) play on significantly better teams (Chicago, Detroit, etc) which would greatly help one's stats. I wonder where McDavid would be, had he not gotten knocked out for most of the season? Both Eichel and McDavid play on basically lousy teams, so it would have been interesting to compare their stats over the season, as they would have comparable baseline situations.
  15. I would have to think there will be more "covering of tracks" at the Sabres' office if this continues, and covering of butts. Sabres are now on a horrible 70 pt pace for the season, and just a point ahead of the worst team in the league. That's with THE coach of the future, a bunch of new talent, and the first post-Tank season. I expected them to be 18-20th place in the league, and poised for a push to the playoffs in 2016-17, not floundering at the bottom of the Atlantic, like the Titanic.
  16. Well, at least it was a better looking loss. :(

I think the fact the Sabres are on a pace to squeak out a paltry 70 points this season, AND have now sagged to 29th place in the league provides sufficient stimulus for these sorts of topics. As Randall Flagg has pointed out too, the Sabres losing streaks are longer than their winning streaks. I wanted to see a bounce back from that tough loss to the Avalanche, but they looked lifeless at the end of the 2nd and all throughout the 3rd (2 shots on goal I think in the ENTIRE 3rd period). They had a good stretch there where they beat the Capitals and the Coyotes, but now it's like all the air has gone out of the balloon.
  18. Well, with this loss, they're on a pace for a 71 point season. That's pretty poor - most seasons that would make them the 2nd or 3rd worst team in the NHL. In fact, they're 29th in the league in total points now, and once again at the bottom of the Atlantic. 71 points is an improvement from the historically bad teams of the past 2 seasons, but in most hockey markets the fans would be clamoring for a "rebuild" if the team came in 2nd or 3rd worst in the league. LOL.
  19. Well, absolutely ZERO bounce back from this game against the Red Wings. And zero points in either game. Sabres could end up struggling to hit 70 points for the season at this rate.
  20. This team has been terrible the last 2 games - 1 goal scored in 120 minutes. A game like tonight against a top tier team like the Red Wings illustrates just how far the Sabres have to go, in order to be a truly competitive team. They looked outclassed and clueless out there - couldn't keep the puck in the Red Wings zone, and couldn't keep it OUT of their own zone.
  21. So 70 seconds with the goalie pulled, and Buffalo can't manage ONE shot on goal? This team is sad. Better than last year, but that isn't saying much.
  22. The shot disparity this period - 15 shots so far for Detroit, and a measly 2 for Buffalo. A Tank By Any Other Name....
  23. Can't blame that on Lehner - they've already had 38 shots on goal with 8 minutes left in the game. Lehner had stopped 37 - that would be enough for a shut out on most teams.
