My answer is two words - Rex Ryan.

GDT NYR @ Buffalo, 7PM EST, 3/8/2016, TV: MSG+, MSGB
Jsixspd replied to MattPie's topic in The Aud Club
I was blaming Bogosian's poor play in the 1st period that let the Rangers keep control of the puck, then foolishly shooting the puck into the stands. He just looked outclassed. And the resulting PP gave the Rangers their first goal. And of course, Lehner had a very poor game. -
If only the Sabres could play only Bottom 5 teams all season.
-
LOL - however questionable it seems like a genius decision in comparison to Jay Cutler's WTF??? contract - lol
-
LOL - very true. But they looked like crap against Edmonton which was another sewer team It's been the Buffalo Battle of The Bottom Feeders this week.

Great showing. I wished this team could show up every night (well, except for giving up a goal 16 seconds after Foligno's terrific short-handed score!)

LOL - yeah, good riddance to Letgois.

They've improved up to being~ the worst team in the NHL in points; pretty darn close to the bottom. I wonder how the 2014/15 team would have performed in terms of total points, total goals, and goals against had ownership, management and coaching wanted to win as many games as possible, instead of intentionally tanking? We will never know what those numbers will be - but it stands to reason a team that's being coached to win as much as possible is going to perform differently from one where the message from the top down is "lose!" That hypothetical "not trying to tank" 2014-15 Sabres is what the current team should be gauged against.
-
Equaled only by ownership and management of the team, past, present and foreseeable future? lol As if one Ryan wasn't enough, they doubled down on stupid by hiring Rob Ryan.
-
LOL - The Buffalo Sabres web page optimistically declares "The Next Chapter"; I dunno - this last month, I feel like I'm reading last season's "chapter".
-
The House of Russ.... when your hiring decisions are based on short term goals (putting as many rear ends as possible in seats THIS Sunday with flashy hires) instead of a long term goal (building a championship team) this is the kind of crap you get, year in and year out.

The Sabres have posted a pitiful 5 wins in 14 games since the start of February, or .356. And they've only scored 5 goals in their last 5 games. A goalie could have a 1.00 ERA and the Sabres would still be losing - there are major league soccer teams that score more often than the Sabres, for cryin out loud! We should be seeing IMPROVEMENT in the 2nd half of the season, not the Sabres pulling a fade and losing more than winning. GMTM needs to get firepower on this team for fall of 2016, instead of more draft picks that may bear fruit 2 seasons from now or 3 seasons. Fans are gonna start to get pissed if the Sabres don't develop some winning ways - and fast.

I thought it was inherently embarrassing to lose to the second worst team in the NHL, at home. Bah!!!!!

Yup - McDavid looked great. He demonstrated why he was rightfully the top draft pick last season. Eichel showed some flash but it was ineffective flash.

Tonight the Sabres were logically the worst team in the NHL, since they got embarrassed by the 2nd worst team in the NHL. And their rookie outscored our rookie by 2 to zilch, zip, nada. We should be better than this at this stage of the rebuild. They've had a terrible record since the first of February.

One step forward and two back is the signature hallmark of this team - unless we want to count Rob Ryan as 3 steps backwards.
-
I hope we can demonstrate, on home ice, that we're clearly the better team than Edmonton tonight.

Yup - Chicago's is the best for sure! The Buffalo song isn't even slightly memorable; maybe it's because the team scores so seldomly? ;)

More draft picks - we need fire power for fall 2016 and a push to qualify for wildcard in 2017. We have had plenty of draft picks built up over the last terrible 2 or 3 years. We don't need more of something that will produce 2 or 3 years down the road - we need production in 7 months! GMTM, where's the beef? Hopefully gonna be some big acquisitions and big moves this summer that will be capable of pointing the puck in the net in October. Anything else will be disappointing.

GDT Sabres at Kings 2/27/16 11:00 pm EST!?! MSG WGR
Jsixspd replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
A 3 game West Coast road trip - and the Sabres get blanked in 2 of 3 games; and get shut out by their former goalie Enroth, to add insult to injury. The Sabres have scored a grand total of 6 goals in 4 games since O'Reilly got hurt. O'Reilly's absence is deeply felt. GMTM needs to add a lot more offensive firepower this coming off-season. -
He was also the only player who'd played 30 or more games this season with a POSITIVE +/- ; Mike was +3 when he left. He'd played very well this season. I also wish him best of luck.
-
Looks like the whole team is too. lol
-
I noted that Gorges was out there when that goal was scored.... our slow moving penalty machine of a d-man.

IF they improve to 87 points, that would be awesome. I had figured them to be around 80 points THIS season, given that they are playing to win, instead of playing to lose, and we spent a ton of money on talent. I will be disappointed with only ~70 point finish, no matter how it's spun as 'improvement'. Hell, last years team should have made 60-65 points if management was trying to win - and that was a team of slugs. Just having "CoHo" on the roster will shave 5 points off a team's annual total I think the important point being missed here - this was a team that management was structuring to intentionally tank via player movement/player selection. That's keeping the final points scored artificially low How many points would the team have scored had management (GMTM) wanted to win every possible game? 60, 65? IF that's the case, then a 70 point finish equals a 5 to 10 point improvement over 2014-2015. It's an improvement, but a disappointing one. I figured with better players, better coaching, and management wanting to win, we'd hit 80 points this year. Just saying - to me - a 70-73 point finish will be disappointing - and it's still bottom of the NHL barrel level stuff.

His stats returned to normal. His GAA is now up to 2.95; that's typical Lehner. His past two seasons at Ottawa - with approximately 60 games played - his average GAA was 3.04. I don't know why anyone would expect him to be better than his long-term averages. The question is - is that a good enough goal tender for a team looking to make a playoff push in the next couple seasons?
