Pearl Harbor Day - the old Eichel Sneak Attack!
-
Yeah, which is good news. Unfortunately Montreal's backup, Montoya, is hardly a Lalime caliber scrub. Guy had a 2.18 ERA and a .919 SVG% with 22 starts last season. Sabres are gonna have to bring it!
-
Well, I did at least. :( As I recall it was discussed a bit. McDavid was taken out by sliding into the boards with another player in a pile - now Jack goes out in practice.... with under 10 minutes left.... @#$%!
-
Bylsma needs to have this team ON FIRE tomorrow night, and come out scoring, to put this unfortunate incident out of the minds of the Buffalo media and the Buffalo fans. If we win, and keep winning, sans Eichel, then everyone will be optimistic - thinking how GOOD this team will be when Eichel rejoins. IF Bylsma doesn't have the team ready to play, and it's a lackluster showing, then we'll have the beginnings of a full fledged negativity avalanche in progress.
-
No timetable for return = not good. We didn't get McDavid but we consoled ourselves at the idea that Jack is more durable than Connor. Guess not. :(
-
The Cubs have Murphy the Goat. We have Russ the Brandon. I even read there was less than 8 minutes left in that practice. Unbelievable.
-
Sabres' season starts tomorrow, was ready to start posting with high hopes for a year where we qualify for the playoffs, everything looking like it was coming up roses, and now this...... smh! And a practice injury too, FFS!!! Unbelievable!!! Hopefully, the rest of the roster is strong enough now, with enough depth, that losing him for 1/3rd or more of the season won't be a crippler.
-
Great deal. The rebuild just took a big step forward. Sabres' biggest issue has been the lack of fire power - this really helps address it.
-
I agree - a couple months ago it looked like the team was struggling to hit 70 points - and yet they finish the season with 81. Team is moving in the right direction under GMTM. I hope the results strengthened his position in the organization enough so he doesn't have to worry about being "Battista-ed" and can finish what he started with minimal interference from others in the company.

Russ Brandon is the living embodiment of "The Peter Principle". Disgraceful that he's now got his hooks into the Sabres organization too. Russ Brandon is a bean counter corporatized suit and tie only cares about graphs. He lives at the intersection of the overhead and income axis. He only cares if and when tickets get unsold. He could care less about the Win-Loss numbers of the teams; that stat only matters to Brandon if it affects ticket sales. And he's all about the quick fix and hype to generate quick turn revenue.

Well, looks like the season is ending not with a bang, but a whimper. Sad showing for the final home game for the Buffalo fans, especially against the team with the 3rd worst overall record in the NHL.

Wow - the Sabres may actually hit 80 points this season - who woulda thunk it even a month ago? Disco Dan system starting to click? Or is it scrub players fighting to keep their jobs at the last minute?

LOL!!!!

So do you think when McDavid's prison sentence is complete in Edmonton in a couple years that the Sabres might have a chance of wooing him to Buffalo? I would imagine McDavid would want out of that place as soon as he can.
-
I wonder if McDavid would have scored on that breakaway or that shoot out attempt?
-
Well, put a plus in the column for Bogo He helped the team instead of hurt that time.
-
Was Bogo waiting for Johnson to come out from behind the net and take the puck down the ice? LOL
-
Nice defense by Bogo on that 2nd shorthanded score, huh? I still think he hurts more than he helps.
-
haha - that ROR goal was great! The Pittsburgh goalie *might* want to actually pay attention to the goal - the puck didn't cross the line, but the goalie just kind of kneeled there and gave ROR the opportunity to tap it in for good measure - lolol
-
Good point - I guess the sad takeaway (and it's not Bogo's fault) is that he IS by default one of our top d-men. One thing that doesn't really reflect in the stats - he's taken a few dumb penalties this year that have resulted in game changing goals by the opponent. We need a logbook on these guys - one column for every good thing they do, and one column for every bad/dumb/stupid thing they do. Then at the end of the evaluation period if the player is on the positive side of the ledger, we keep 'em. If not, we ditch 'em. Maybe that's a "plus minus" that would be useful?
-
I think we could use a Duncan Keith or a Brent Seabrook type D-man versus a solidly career negative plus minus guy like Bogosian. I didn't see anything about Bogosian last night that particularly impressed me; one glaringly bad turnover took place right in front of us - I was like WTF!!!???
-
Speaking of which - I saw my first Detroit Octopus on the ice last night - somebody about 30 ft away from us tossed one out on the ice right after Detroit scored that empty net goal with 3 minutes left- a nice big octopi. Not sure why it was there in a non-playoff situation - caused quite a buzz in the crowd - lol.
-
I was there last night -he didn't make an appearance on ice - he sadly didn't look very good on the monitor. I hope for the best for him. I hope some part of him knew that the crowd loved and were celebrating his birthday. And I have to wonder if any of his dementia is due to all the years playing sans helmet? There were no "concussion protocols" back in those days. :(
