  1. Well, a good team isn't 1-4 with one good player sidelined. Pittsburgh was 3-3 with Crosby out with a concussion; and they won tonight with Crosby back in the lineup.
  2. More stats - Bogosian and Gorges have ZERO points combined thru 5 games. Look at Montreal's D thru 6 games - Shea Weber - 7 pts, Petry 4 pts, Markov 3 pts, Emelin - 2 pts, Beaulieu, 2 pts Pateryn - 1 pt. 19 pts total Buffalo - it's just Risto 5, and McCabe - 1 for a total of 6 pts. The Rest of D - zero pts after 5 games. On a good team, the top d-men make a contribution offensively to help carry the load. In Buffalo, however, Gorges and Bogosian are a load, plain and simple.
  3. Buffalo is now 1-4 on the season; Edmonton seems to be delivering on their tank and rebuild - Buffalo, not so much. Buffalo keeps finding ways to defeat from the jaws of victory! Where is this fast turnaround that Murray promised Sabres fans? I'm from Missouri, Tim Murray. Show me!
  4. I like Jack Eichel, but the Sabres are already sitting at the bottom of the Atlantic, in 8th place - an all too familiar position for them. If Eichel had played from the start, is the team 7th? 6th? 5th? Where? I can't honestly believe one player could carry the whole team to 1st or 2nd place in the division. The team needs more depth; it needs its D-men (Gorges, Bogosian) to make some sort of offensive contribution, and improve defensively; that's just not happening IMHO with those two. I look at the roster, and have zero confidence the team is a legitimate wild card contender, or even a .500+ team, even with Eichel back in the lineup. A few good players, and a lot of hot garbage. A quick turn around CAN be done - look at Chicago - they went from bottom feeders to cup contenders in 2-3 seasons and have remained a post season force to be reckoned with ever since; the turn around started with a new GM, who added talent, and top shelf coaching. IF the rebuild is truly successful, at least we should see or expect a winning season this year. We need to start seeing results, not excuses.
  5. Well, Sabres are 1 win and 3 losses now (1 in OT) Zero offensive contribution in the first 4 games from either Gorges or Bogosian (0 goals, 0 points). 8 penalty minutes already for that idiot Gorges thru 4 games, vs 4 total for Risto and Bogo (2 minutes on average per game!) And that too many men on the ice penalty was just ridiculous! I mean, it wasn't even close! And that loss of 2 minutes in the last 3 of the game really hurt the Sabres' chance of tying the game. Looks like a repeat of previous years to me; again, too much dead wood from previous years that Murray has left in the lineup.
  6. There are too many weak links in the current roster for this lineup to have a chance of competing for a WC berth. The only good players are Eichel, Okposo (and of course he's a great unknown on this team at this point), Reinhart, and potentially Girgensons. Just about everyone else is hot garbage. A lot of teams have D's that make a real offensive contribution - but based on past results within Bylsma's system, I doubt we'll ever see that from Gorges(2 goals last year) or Bogo(7 goals last year).
  7. That lumbering imbecile Gorges vs McDavid? LOL!!! About his only chance is to take bad penalties to slow up McDavid and hope the Sabres can kill them. Gorges ought to just remake himself into a goon, because as a legitimate "D" he doesn't cut the mustard.
  8. In an alternate universe, the Sabres have both Babcock and McDavid. Imagine that?
  9. We'll have to start a "McDavid vs Sabres" tracker, so we can compare his individual offensive output to that of the Sabres team! 6 for Connor, 3 for the Sabres! It's ON!!!
  10. Update: we did order a full rack of St. Louis style BBQ ribs for dinner last night; I wished I could thank Evander for giving us an excellent meal idea!
  11. Hey, just to cheer everyone up, the Sabres collectively have 1 goal and 2 total assist points this season. But Connor McDavid has 2 goals, and 3 total points, more than the entire Sabres roster. Will the Sabres team collective offensive effort surpass Connor McDavid's individual stats by the end of Game 2?
  12. All this talk of ribs is making me hungry. Maybe I should order some bbq ribs from the corner deli for my dinner?
  13. I was expecting this team to be markedly improved this season. I didn't think that was unreasonable. But just looking at the lineups, and the slugs that still infest the lineup, I don't see it as improved. Take away Eichel and Okposo, and there are only a couple decent players (Reinhart, and possibly Girgensons) Who else is there? Ennis and Moulson's productivity was abysmal last season. Bogosian and Gorges don't impress, defensively. There wasn't any evidence that the problems that plagued the Sabres for the past two years - poor productivity, poor shooting%, and mediocre defense, have been addressed. Injuries happen to every team every season. This team should still be reasonably decent with Eichel and Okposo sidelined; but it isn't. It's the same group of losers, pretty much. Is this team going to be above .500 with a bunch of guys that need 100 shots to get the puck in the net? Tim Murray may be making the mistake of Darcy Regier - holding onto players looking for that *perfect* trade, instead of shuffling the dead wood out quick and actively working to improve the lineup. I expected to see a few familiar faces in 2017 - but this is like a Tank Reunion.
  14. LOL - haven't we been saying this for at least a decade now and counting? And it's a rhetorical question - it's hard not to be mean spirited and snarky when it comes to commentating on the seemingly eternal failings of the Sabres!
  15. Since much of our lineup is a carryover from the supposed 'tank' seasons this provides proof, if any were needed, that the Sabres players never intentionally tanked or threw a game - they're just mediocre and not very good. A bunch of poor players, no matter how hard they try, won't win very often, if at all.
  16. *What* results?
  17. haha!
  18. So what is the diagnosis? Neither Buffalo News or WGR have any details. Surely the hospital must know by now the extent of his injuries - I want to be told if there's any change in his condition
  19. At times last season he looked completely shot; just not the kind of player that should be in a supposedly resurgent playoff striving team. I think he was 45 minutes productivity last season - he got his goal early - now we see nothing from him for the next 3 games, with his average on ice time. And that lame-brain Gorges - am I the only one who thinks he stinks? He's like a big slow moving pylon out there. In fact, a pylon pulled on a string might be better - at least the pylon wouldn't take idiotic penalties like Gorges does.
  20. Ahhh, the Bills..... We could *start* to be optimistic, but optimism is chastened by painful history. They started out 5-1 with Dick Jauron, and ended up finishing an ever so typical Dick Jauron era 7-9 record.
  21. What a disgusting and gutless first outing for a team that's supposed to be contending for a playoff slot this year. The roster has far too many of the tank years players still on it. GMTM should have done a more thorough housecleaning of the lineup; the team just doesn't seem to have depth, or enough firepower, to go anywhere. Ennis and that worthless Gorges both -2 for the night. DISGUSTING!!!!!
  22. Based on his stats, in both points and goals scored, Kane is average at best - I peg him at slightly below average. While I never want to see a Sabre hurt, him being on the DL won't tangibly hurt the Sabres. Kane's best skill appears to be womanizing and generating negative PR for the Sabres; he's near the top of the NHL in those advanced metrics.
  23. You know, I was feeling the same vibe looking at those lines and the player names. But I didn't want to say it. Lots of alumni from the Tank Years present.
  24. ^^^yup - Reinhart. Then we've got some of the familiar long time players - Ennis, Foligno, Moulson, Gionta. It's kind of sad that a 2nd year player exceeds all those veterans in our expectations. And what of Kane? 207th in points scored, 105th in goals scored last season. Seems like his best stat is womanizing, and saddling the Sabres with bad PR.
  25. Edmonton won last night - and McDavid scored 2 goals and had an assist. That's the sort of opening night we hoped to see from Jack. Sigh!
