that’s the entire catch, and it’s a tough one to overlook. considering how much dahlin has talked about how the north american game is like an entirely different sport it should be worrying for a coaching hire.

I feel like the playing adjustment would be larger than the coaching adjustment. Either way, beats the pants off trotting Jacques freaking Martin out there.

I like the way Steve Smith speaks.  I believe he was a trash talking, player punching, wild man on the field.  He’s not that behind a microphone.  There’s a cadence in his speech where every vowel and every consonant earns its moment.

So many players/coaches/GMs struggle transitioning to TV. Not him. He's fantastic.

That’s entirely possible. One is going to kill the other and become Azor Ahai.

Separately, I was looking at the cast (thanks @GASabresIUFAN ) and was stumped on what’s going to happen to Tyrion.

Nope. Jaime kills Cersei and becomes Azor Ahai.

Anyway. Samwell Tarley, you're up! Or, well, down, as the case may be.

Unfortunately, I just JBotts knows he’s on the hot seat now. This is his last coaching hire. People in these types of situations usually act differently than they did when they were hired. There’s no more taking chances, like Housley. I bet he goes for a self-preservation safe pick, like JM. He’s not spectacular or a sexy pick, but he won’t likely get you fired because they’ll make the playoffs (and that’s about it).

It's always funny to me how risk is framed. Martin is safe because he was a head coach who made the playoffs in the past. But that past was a decade ago. The guy hasn't been a head coach in 8 years. Eight! There's a huge risk to hiring him.

If he did get fired, would you want him in Buffalo?

Yes. He's a good coach and would pretty much guarantee improvement and competitiveness. Despite another first round exit, it's important to remember he had the tanking Leafs team playing respectable hockey. Even if he is a bit overrated, he's not a roll of the dice. Ultimately, there's no shame in losing to this Boston team in 7 games.

Maybe Babcock will be available after this game.

He's not getting fired, but he's justifiably going to feel some heat. How in the world does Auston Matthews only play 18 minutes in a game 7?*

*Somewhere, Pi is thinking "Because he got his contract and got lazy and out of shape and can't play any more than that."

I liked that episode much more than the season premiere.  It did an excellent job IMHO setting the pre-battle dramatic tension and telling stories about how people would spend what they think are likely to be their last few hours before their likely deaths in battle.

By the way, Maisie Williams is 22.

Agreed. I think this episode was the series at its best, with memorable and touching character moments. Don't get me wrong, I look forward to all hell breaking loose as much as anyone, but this episode was fantastic. One of my favorites in the entire series, I think.

we should do a death draft this week. everybody in it gets three characters who they believe will die next. the person with the quickest deaths wins.

Trotz, Laviolette, Torts, Richards vs Housley, Bylsma, Rolston, Nolan.

IMO, coach quality has made a huge difference.

30 other teams would take Risto in a heartbeat and here in Buffalo fans cant wait to get rid of good players. SMDH!

    Risto is Dion Phaneuf.
