Assuming we flip Risto, who is interested in replacing him with P.K. Subban?

    I'd go streaking to celebrate.

Right? Like sure, for Horvat, but you know they're not giving him up, and the gap between him and their next asset is maaaaaaaaaaaaassive

Right. Horvat, Pettersson, Boeser, Hughes. None of those are happening, and everything else is horrible.

I think with us it's the risk of those 4 unprotected 1sts.  I would rather somehow work out a deal with Toronto for more sure assets and a cost slightly less of 4 firsts.  You ask why Toronto would do that.  If Marner's ask is in that 12.5 to 13 neighborhood and leafs can't/won't go that far and few other teams will then it's possible.

Oh, there's definitely risk if we continue to suck. But ya know what? If we continue to suck with a core of Eichel, Skinner, Dahlin, Reinhart, Marner, and hopefully Mitts? We're doomed anyway.

That would suck for current STH's but it would be awesome to see, especially if the stadium in Montreal was an outdoor one. I don't think I've ever seen a baseball game in the snow.

I feel like watching the Rays less would be pretty good for STHs ?

Which means your probably getting to $12.5 to $13 mil per.  Then the leafs may be in trouble trying to match and Marner would be enticed to sign.  Whether a team and gm think it’s worth it is another question.

I know you weren't being Sabres-specific, but that's roughly the figure we're paying Scandella, Bogo, and Sobotka. They're all off the books in a year. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

I can get behind this, I guess.

Thing is: The team stunk last season. So I'm knee jerkedly skeptical of rolling the same 4th line. But maybe they were not the (a) problem. Maybe it is lines 2 and 3 that need the revamp.

Look at it this way. If you could look at every team in the league and steal what you judge to be the best 4th line in the league, how many wins do you think it would have added?

I’m 90% sure it was reported at the time that it was Buffalo, Toronto and Pittsburgh and only Buffalo had the cap space. It’s hard to believe that Carolina would’ve made that trade if they had any options. Contrary to board opinion, most GM’s aren’t idiots. They may differ on what’s valuable but they aren’t in the habit of rejecting good trade offers in order to accept almost nothing.

It's almost as if you don't think bad GMs exist. The differing on what's valuable is the key...plenty of GMs over or under value the wrong things which leads them to accept lesser trades.

Can we please stay on topic, it's like an ADHD epidemic in here. TRADE RUMORS AND SPECULATION. Not a JBGM thread. Open a new one and debate his competency there.

It's pretty hard to speculate about trades while ignoring the GM who would make them.

    "keeping the late 1sts"

Sir, the Sabres have the fewest wins in the entire NHL...since they ended the tank and tried to start winning. What on god's green earth makes you think those first rounders will be late

The same stuff that makes people think Risto will radically change his game under Krueger, Bogo will be healthy after this injury, Okposo will be fine after he has a healthy offseason to train, etc etc etc.

I agree that I would've greatly preferred TB's season to the Sabres', but I think the Sabres gave us about 25-30 games of legit enjoyment before the roof caved in.

    Separately, here are my predictions:

    - No major FA signings or trades to bring in a big name unless there is a Risto trade

    - Sabres do not trade Risto unless someone makes a really rich offer

    - Sabres keep #7 and draft (to the extent available, in order of their preference) Byram, Dach, Zegras or Caufield

    - Sabres trade #31 for a 2nd and either a prospect or a lower 2nd/high 3rd

    - Sabres make a Sheary-type trade in which they absorb Callahan or a similar cap dump and get a decent forward in exchange for a mid-round draft pick or lower-level prospect

    - Nylander is not traded as JB decides to see whether RK can coach him up

Boy, what a wet turd of an offseason this would be.

Let's just say Game 7 was a win for me lol. She doesn't really care about the Bruins so she said she'll become a Sabres fan, I just have to deal with her die hard Pats-Red Sox fandom, so check back with me in October

I think this is the most accurate prediction so far honestly

You won't survive the first Bills-Pats game.

But that's 7 months of hope/build up for such utter disappointment. At least we weren't as emotionally invested for that long

I think we have very different outlooks on things ? Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all? Probably, but I'm also not on speaking terms with any of my exes

Man, Buffalo sports have done a real number on your psyche ?

    Yes

Really? I'm kinda amazed by that. I love Marner but I'd rather have a consistent pipeline and some depth

I don't think the four 1sts precludes that from happening. We'll have #7 this year and late 1sts aren't exactly impossible to acquire. I'd much rather have Marner long term than keep the late 1sts just to use them on a series of rentals like Pittsburgh or something.
