  1. So, you don't like jurists? ;) I will make a response to your longer recent posts, but won't have time until later (and even then...Stranger Things calls). Honestly though, my remark was simply a crack about how the Kaepernick thing is just another example of how Americans neither think ideologically nor apply broad principles very effectively to specific policies. Anti-PC crusaders become PC zealots when the flag is the political correctness in question, while those who freak about broad generalizations about welfare recipients are suddenly silent when a broad brush is used to paint police. Obviously exceptions exist, but the general relationship will never cease to amuse me. Edit: The relationship to Haidt is that his work explains some of why this is.
  2. Just remember not to tread anywhere Auston Matthews may have been. Never know how much of his despicable humanity and general sociopathy is contagious.
  3. Yea, I don't see any reason to choose between them.
  4. Though I'd certainly like a better #2, it'll be fine as long as Sammy is healthy. If he's out for any real time though, it gets ugly.
  5. He had more points, right? That's about it. Possession was worse, scoring rate was worse. To be fair, Risto also faced tougher minutes with a worse partner on a worse team. But yea, his numbers weren't better. Edit: reading the article, it was good. He split off the even strength production from PP, took into account ice time and team context. I liked it he mentions 7 years $6M per towards the end. Wonder if thats what Risto is looking for and Murray is hoping more like low 5s?
  6. I've found it all at least slightly amusing, particularly if you look at the contradictions when the discussion is superimposed onto the sides of the political correctness debate. People are a flippin, and they're a floppin, and...I can't bring this rhyme to a satisfactory conclusion.
  7. I just want to take this time to nominate the Las Vegas Dumbnames as the official Sabrespace slang for that team.
  8. First two episodes of Stranger Things last night. I'm hooked. Just want to get home tonight to watch more.
  9. Eh. No way I'm doing the legwork on this, but I don't recall one year deals coming off of an ELC to be all that common. Two year bridge is standard, to my memory.
  10. I hate you. Edit: Though to be honest, if he doesn't have a good offensive year this season (Assuming he gets real time with Jack and isn't stuck centering the fourth line), I'm not sure he ever will.
  11. Correct. Upon further review, I'm fine with it. Even if he has a big year and gets a $3 mil+ payday, he'll be cost controlled when Eichel and Reinhart are coming off their ELCs, as opposed to coming off his bridge then.
  12. Job postings that say one thing, then you go to the interview, and they're really quite another. Advice: bring the bar to you. I'm only half joking. That's a pretty impossible situation you're in right now.
  13. Welp. Financially, if I'm right about him, he's in line for a nice raise next season. Nice for him, anyway, not the team.
  14. Long term this is mostly true, but that doesn't make him a top NHL prospect or even a likely top-4 Dman. I think my biggest issue is when the "He would have gotten a taste of action out of camp if not for the injury" becomes "He would've made the team without the injury!" Two things separated by a giant chasm are too often being used interchangeably.
  15. Yup. Most overrated prospect in the system. Well, him or Ullmark. I go back and forth on which.
  16. Well, we all know that Kelly never disappointed us in a big spot. Nope, didn't happen.
  17. Ain't that the truth. Even if he's completely innocent and is in fact being targeted, I remain quite disappointed by his play on the ice.
  18. Of course, we all bring our biases to the table. To your specific point, I agree in general, but I think considering the context here (Chris Brown's history) puts it being the final straw in a more favorable light.
  19. As is, you're not wrong. But I'm not sure they'd look so similar if Kelly played today and Romo played in the 80s-90s. I personally think you're letting a couple of big moments overshadow the whole body of work. Romo is really goddamn good.
  20. Correct. Does anyone think there'd be any real criticism, if say, he had liked a story of the Duke lacrosse case? Or, hell, even a story about the other Kane and the fake evidence bag?
  21. Well, according to some, taking offense is the exclusive purview of people younger than you :p Now that you can take offense at ;)
  22. Eh, you're quoting a player who isn't allowed to play for his country because of an arbitrary age floor. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if some players aren't super hyped about it like for the Olympics.
  23. In fairness, not many teams have ever been in a position to jump as many points as we did. I'm firmly in the camp that believes last year's 27 points were a lot easier to get than this season's ~12.
  24. Congratulations, you're making an anonymous anecdotal appearance in my lecture tomorrow about the practical consequences of low trust in government :)
  25. Yes. And I remember NHL 96 more vividly. I was 10, do not underestimate how much I played that game.
