I would pay Sean Tierney and those guys money to not make a single chart until December starts

I honestly don't know why you hate them so much. Sure, they don't have predictive value for awhile, but they still have descriptive value...which puts them on par with every other stat that people use without you crushing them.

But hey, if we get rid of them, that sort of thing will never happen ever again in the history of mankind.

Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Serious sanctions to encourage systematic reform that makes such occurrences less likely in the future shouldn't be given the ol' eye roll just because it's not fool-proof prevention.

I'll see your Ohio State and I'll raise you Penn State. When the entire buckeye fanbase explains away child rape then you might have something.

If given the opportunity, they will.

Except in the case of Penn State, the whole refused to condemn the few. That's the problem.

I love your research and analysis but your saying he’s not a top 6 forward.  I’m saying he’s not a top 6 forward.  Nothing to debate here.

I almost didn’t even comment earlier as I was worried I would get straw man responses (not directed at you at all).  The debate shouldn’t be if erod plays over sobotka, it should be how we need to find a better forward on the second line because erod ain’t that (not is sobotka).

To be blunt, I think this entire debate is missing the forest through the trees. The concern is (or should be) whether playing Sobotka over Rodrigues is just an isolated quirk, or if it represents a fundamental problem with talent analysis on the team. Almost every coach inexplicably falls in love with a bad vet. I have complained about the choice, and I will continue to do so, as it will cost us a point here or there. But it's not the end of the world...if it's isolated. But if the choice represents something broader about player valuation, then we've got some problems.

If it was a minute later, then I think it's dubious connecting the two events. A lot of ***** like that happens in hockey. He wasn't even on the ice by the time the goal happened. They were the only line to consistently sustain offensive zone possession throughout the night, and that was reflected by the fact that they were the only line to have a positive shot attempt share (when they were on the ice, the Sabres had 73% of them, and no other Sabre line was above 50% - as much as I hate citing shot counts for single game performances)

Larsson was the only Sabres skater worth anything in the 1st period, and he was their best throughout the night.

  6. Here's the thing with Sobotka: even when he's not completely terrible, he adds nothing. He is, at best, net neutral. His best case scenario is Matt Ellis. On a line that's supposed to score. They're simply not going to consistently generate chances with him there.
