We still don't have NHL depth like the good teams do, with like, good and great players. Sheary missing any time would absolutely sting. We're still going to probably have 1-2 actual bad forwards on the ice with a healthy lineup. We aren't out of any sort of woods in that regard organizationally yet.

Definitely not odd, this happens every season with players. Now it's one of ours. It'll get done before the season starts. If it isn't, then it's time to be pretty angry at someone. If those players did not have a contract, then they did not participate in the camp. So the only ones that did were guys like Jack who still had a year left.

Way-too-early hot takes after preseason game 1: Tonight is the night I flip the switch to almost never including Thompson in projected lineups to always having him in there. The fun thing will be figuring out exactly where he goes - I have no idea. But he's making the team. Nylander will play games, I'm not sure if it'll be right away though. Guhle is not currently one of the top six D in the organization and needs to go play more in Rochester, which is completely fine. Olofsson will be spending a significant amount of time in Rochester, which is completely fine. Ogelvie will be an awesome Amerk for a long time. Tennyson, as bad as we remember.

Hard to expect a season like that from Staal again, but Parise played great when healthy, and he should be healthy now hopefully? Plenty of top six forwards but no real standouts. I think they're going to have another near-100 point season, and probably be another first round out.

Nylander-Berglund-Thompson is the best line in this game by far It's scrubs on scrubs, and preseason. But it's pretty weird seeing the Sabres crisply transition the puck. They look like an NHL team. Please god let that translate to the regular season.

What number is Malone? Thompson is fun to watch and meshes pretty well with Nylander. Berglund's game is to almost never have the puck, but to be in the right place for a pass or a cycle.

Malone, Crisco, and Randell combine for an awesome goal. Another shot from the slot. Maybe our franchise has figured out how to get there.

Nylander, Tage, and Berglund all with nice passing on the play, including a particularly saucy dish from Tage from the line at the left point, lasered to Berglund right on the tape down below the right dot BJs score but i missed it typing this

Great play from Tage, Nylander, and Berglund with the finish for the first goal!! Nylander dumped it in, Tage pinned it to the boards and kicked it free to Alex, who heard Berglund shout that he was wide open in front and Nylander quickly pivoted and fed it out front, and Berglund one-timed it in.
