The last seven minutes of the 32 Thoughts Podcast was devoted to Adams Marek, wondered if the reason why the deal had not been made was related to Adam's being a rookie GM and not wanting to make a mistake Friedman responded going back to Adam's Playing Days, He found Adams to be a thoughtful guy. He realized He was thin at in the Front Office so they hired Jason Karmanos Sam Ventura and Dom Galamini. The latter two being described as Smart Guys by the Analytics Community. EF's sense from Adams is that the Eichel Situation is very emotional for all parties involved and that Adams knows what He doesn't know and He is trying to remove the emotion and be patient on the trade. Friedman thinks what He is doing is he smart play for the team. He disagrees with Eichel not being able to have the surgery He wants. Friedman looks at what Adams is doing with the Sabres, it might be a recency bias as the are 3-0, and thinks He is trying to build the organization the right way/

This is where the one time carve out agreement between the NHL and PA would come into play. Do they agree to a lower payout of the remainder of the deal if Jack cannot continue His Career? The NHLPA would absolutely despise this, but it might be necessary. The NHL could agree to to assist the Sabres paying of the remainder of the deal, who would be responsible for 25% if the fusion fails anyways. Something they did to prop up struggling franchises in the past, Hi Arizona. The Sabres might be more agreeable, if they are going to have financial backing of the league in case of the doomsday scenario. They could attempt to negotiate a much higher premium with the Insurance Company, particularly with Jack needing surgery, to cover the ADR. Or His Deal gets moved in the Summer to Toronto for Cap Room.

Emily Kaplan on Her Segment mentioned Eichel’s Camp is going to put a lot of pressure on the Sabres to allow the ADR and hinted that the next step would be a grievance filing, which She mentioned no one wants. With Teams refusing to meet the Sabres Asking Price and the Sabres refusing to retain, finding a way to minimize the team’s liability and allowing Jack to have the surgery is the best path forward. A more definitive timeline for His Return post surgery, would increase interest in Him On March 21st the Trade Deadline Day, Jack will be owed 2.5 Million for the remainder of the year, that’s easier for teams closer to the cap to bring on His Contract in

The pressure could come in the form of there is no way the Sabres are going to get Their Asking Price with Jack being a minimum of 3 Months away from attempting to get back on the ice in a meaningful way. Couple this with Their Unwillingness to retain on salary, finding a way to limit their liability and allowing the ADR to occur might be their only way forward. I’m of the belief that if Jack finishing His Contract with the Sabres was each party’s goal, He would have had the ADR back in June.
