@dudacek and @Taro T .. I agree with Taro that Mitts will be signed to an extension too. Maybe not 7 years, but it will be another cap friendly deal.

I understand what you are saying here. The issue with a bridge is that you will end up paying a lot more for Power in 3 years .. assumig a 2 year bridge. He will become the highest paid Sabre then. The optics alone would not be very good to have him earning more than arguably your best player due to inflation and cap rising. 8 years at $8.5M is basically market value for Power now. He would jump all over it and it will be bargain contract from year 1 (a year from now). Can of worms .. meet opener.

The life of a Sabres fan - creating anxiety and drama when there is no need for any. He is under contract for the coming season. The Sabres do not need to sign an extension until almost a year from now. That said, they will not want a distaction during the season. I have a feeling that the contract is agreed to and there will be splashie photo op at the opening of training camp when KA will hand a 29 cent Bic to Dahlin for the staged signing. Flash bulbs will go off and the cheesy grins will be wide spread.

I have loved the Sabres since the beginning. Through thick and thin. Even the wasted years - I agree with @Weave. Honestly, I have been to a few Bills games when they stank - my uncle had seasons for business years ago, but I am a fair weather fan of the Bills. I am a fan of the Bills, but not the NFL. I am a futbal fan and have a few sides that I follow .. not either from Manchester, nor Munich, nor London - Arsenal or Chelsea .........

Why is this a debate? Not casting stones. The 3 most important positions on any NHL team are (in no particular order) .. 1) a stud #1 D - check (and double checked with Power) 2) a stud #1 C - check (and soon to be double checked with Cozens) 3) a stud #1 G - hoping for Levi to check this box Toss in an emerging shut down D in Mule and a number of other key pieces and the Sabres are on the cusp (hey @PASabreFan) of something. The prices of contracts are what they are. One could make the arguement that Dahlin has given the Sabres a home team discount. He probably would have gotten $12M on the open market. We are spoiled with the 3 recent big contracts. If I were KA I would sign Power to 8 years at $8.5M as soon as possible, if not sooner.

He will be the top D in the NHL. Even the NHL will not be able to deny it and he will win the Norris.

By the end of this coming season Power will be a top pair level D on any team in the NHL. He will be the Sabres #2 D and play #3 - top of the 2nd pairing for the next 10+ years.
