How can they literally trade a player for 'nothing'? Does there not have to be something going the other way? Conditonal pick that is so outrageous that it would never happen? Something?

I believe it was @Thorny who said that the winning window is not Jack's it became Rasmus II's when they draft him. Who ever said that, I agree with it and that is a prime motivation to trade Jack, as @LGR4GM stated up thread.

There will be no issue with hitting the cap floor. In fact, at the end of the day, I suspect the Sabres to spend near the cap.

What if this whole thing turns upside down? I have a *hockey trade* proposal along the lines of Smilin' Ger when he went to Long Island and turned 'o la la Pierre into LaLaLafontaine ... Where did you hear this? I would be shocked if this was the plan, even from the Sabres. The relative advantage of this has been well discussed. It is minimal, if any.
