  1. I never understood why fans of one team should take joy in another teams failure, especially Sabre fans in recent / current years. Something, something ... glass houses ... something, something ... throwing stones ... I take no joy in the dastardly Flyers missing the playoff this season. Why should I ? I cheer for the Sabres to win not for the others to lose. Who cares about the others ? Also, has the Jersey cheering not been debunked ? I don't see anyone doing that in America. I do understand Palestinians celebrating in East Jerusalem and Gaza and The West Bank and in other places. They would do the same today. I don't think if 911 happend today that the masses that are domonstrating now in the States would cheer it.
  2. Me too - October. I don't feel a day over 59 years, 7 months and 1 day.
  3. 'We' ????? Travelling with your sister again, eh ??
  4. Fair enough. Parisians are insufferable, but it's hard to avoid them. There are just so many sights to see. Whenever we went to France we would have 1 day in Paris at either end and spend most of our time around the other regions. Southern France (not as far as the Riviera and Nice and all that snooty jazz) is quite delightful. Provence in our favourite.
  5. Safe travels. My sympathies for your having to pass through The Great Satan. And who hates Paris ????? Especially in the Spring.
  6. Late to the party. Now that it's May Day I can breath and say congrats, my friend. You have earned this.
  7. Love me some Olive Oil. Yummy. Oh, wait ...
  8. That was 30+ years ago and the last time The Habs won the cup. A few years later they cursed themselves, possibly forever, when they traded Patrick to his home town Nordique. The Habs just know not to do that. Ever. I know, the Nords were located in Colorado at the time - makes no difference to the curse.
  9. I've got all you hosers beat - no lawn.
  10. Dude needs a belt for Christmas.
  11. You may be right. I do know that he was a true Blue Noser from NS.
  12. Until I was 10 years old we had a black and white tv with 13 channels on the dial. No real antenna on the roof. Only received 2 channels - CTV and CBC. There was only one hockey night in Canada and it was Saturday night. I spent every Saturday night listening and watching HNIC - only the first period. I spent my Saturday nights with Bob Cole. He was fantastic. In late 1974 (about a month or so after my 10th birthday) we got a colour TV - one of those that are a giant piece of furniture that took up a whole corner of the rec room. A tall antenna two with a rotor on it so we could aim it south and pick up channels 2, 4 and 7 (and very rarely 29) from Buffalo. I still lived for HNIC and Bob Cole - by that time I could watch the second period too. Bob was a part of my life until adulthood. He and Danny Gallivan in Montreal were the best ever on HNIC. They rank only behind RJ and just a little bit ahead of Mike Lange in Pittsburgh. Not sure who I would have fifth, but I think I would have to go with Tom Cheek of 'Touch 'em all Joe' fame. Interesting note: Bob was from St. John's on the tropical island of Newfoundland. One of the only Newfs that one does not need a translator to understand - I love Newfs and Newfoundland. Danny Gallivan was from Sydney, NS.
  13. I am not a Doors fan, but this is great. Also, great is the first glimmer of light after totality in your avatar. Great to see that too, my friend.
  14. I agree with you and I hope that it works. His coaching style back when turned boys into men, but by 2005 he had a far better roster than the Sabres have now. NJ was a young team, but a better team than the Sabres are now and Ruff was fired when NJ slid backwards. Adam really has this offseason to build the team. Seems that Ruff will be involved in that, which is key. Both talked about the 'next level' - we all know that means playoffs. I want it to mean cups and I have my doubts that Ruff will get the Sabres there - Adams too. Again, I am hopeful. As I have said many times, without hope there is nothing.
  15. Echo chamber alert. I hope it works out for the best, of course. I had to vote that it was a dumb move though. I would have gone with Gallant. It's been 25 years since 1999. Almost 20 since 2006. Time as taken it's toll on Lindy, as it always does for all of us. He said he is super excited, but it appeared that he was barely awake. Maybe he will be different with the players, but he was always very animated when he ever spoke with any of the press back when.
  16. How are you doing ? It's been too long. Maybe the Sabres will be good again one day and the old gang will come back.
  17. @Thorny sighting. The resemblance is uncanny, I say. I am not sure about this. Ruff is a good coach, but this smacks of desperation. I hope for the best, as always, but my fear is in 2 years both Lindy and KA will be out on their *****. Leaving us in the lurch once again. On the cusp of 20 years with no playoff. Hey oh, @PASabreFan ..
  18. He has grown up since joining as a teen over 10 years ago. Married for sure and maybe children. He has been known to take extended breaks in the recent years. Keep an eye on the Bills thread he often will pop in there around draft time.
  19. He is on an extended break he told Taro and me. Lots of real life stuff going on that he needs to focus on. He said that we would be back. He did make one drive by post fairly recently (early spring). Taro took his annual Lent break and has not returned. I think the season got to him and he has extended his break.
  20. He meant the players that were expressing their dismay at the fan chants for Donnie's head.
  21. I plan to spend as much time as possible at the beach and on the water.
  22. Maybe we should not read too much into this. It's difficult for anyone in a new situation. It takes time. Cliffton struggled at first, but was much better in the second half. That said, obviously Granato and the video guy and some other guy could not get the Sabres to play consistantly or to the next level. They were fired (is Granato's contract guaranteed ? - his extension was to kick in now), but looks like Matt Ellis and the rest are good enough since they were not fired - at least not yet.
  23. Sorry to hear this news. Crazy times. You would be welcome anywhere in Canada. I hightly recommend Nova Scotia, especially Halifax. Seeing that you failed to call dibs, I sent out an official invitation. Sucka !!
  24. Voted Gallant. He is available and is the best shot at getting the Sabres into the playoff next season, IMHO. Right now all they need to worry about is making it. Once they do that will make a world of difference for this team. Once they start making the playoff regularly and Gallant wears out his welcome bring in someone to get them over the top.
